Deep in the forest, not far from Torpa there is a Magic Tree. In olden times people used to go to this strange tree to rid themselves of toothache.

Is there a name for when a tree does what you're seeing in this picture? Its kind of hard to describe, but you're looking at a very old and hollow broken douglas fir trunk, and I think it somehow kept growing for many years after the hollow trunk broke. The thing is...you can see how the bark/skin of the tree healed around the break (though the tree is truly dead now and covered in lichen). I'm guessing the trunk of the tree was somehow still being fed by another tree...as if the roots were connected. I've seen this sort of think a few times before, but I'm curious if there's a name for the phenomenon. If anybody knows about this....I'd appreciate the help. Picture is from one of the upper slopes in the Fall Creek drainage to the East of Eugene, OR.
Some nights right after the sun settles into the trees.... magic happens. It's my favorite time of the evening....the dark can't take over quite yet!
Disregard the fact that the tree is technically still up (tho without lights and without ornaments). This network cable goes from the router near the cable modem to my temporary gaming computer setup on the dining room table...and usually the cable is on the floor.
Neither I nor Todd hung the cable on the tree. No other human has been in the house. I don't believe a cat could simultaneously pick up the cable and hang it that high on the tree (about waist level).
