Experimenting is fun, but sometimes can cause dizziness...

Excluding peak morning hours, there are few travelers who meet on the regional train heading for Nara. It seems that none of them are in a hurry to arrive, as if they were part of the train itself.

Viaggiatori

Se si escludono gli orari di punta mattutini, sono pochi e solitari i viaggiatori che si incontrano sul treno regionale che si dirige a Nara. Sembra che nessuno di loro abbia fretta di arrivare, come se fossero parte del treno stesso.

Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face

And stars fill my dream

I'm a traveler of both time and space

To be where I have been

To sit with elders of the gentle race

This world has seldom seen

They talk of days for which they sit and wait

All will be revealed

Talk in song from tongues of lilting grace

Sounds caress my ear

And not a word I heard could I relate

The story was quite clear

Oh, baby, I been blind

Oh, yeah, mama, there ain't no denyin'

Oh, ooh yes, I been blind

Mama, mama, ain't no denyin', no denyin'

All I see turns to brown

As the sun burns the ground

And my eyes fill with sand

As I scan this wasted land

Try to find, try to find the way I feel

" Well Ive known life hard, and Ive known it easy

And Ive cursed the time when winter days were dawning,

Still we laughed and sung through the whole night long,

Seen the sunrise over in the morning`

All you freeborn men of the travelling people,

Every Tinker, Rolling Stone and Gypsy Rover,

Winds of change are blowing, old ways are going,

Your travelling days will soon be over "

Ive written a bit more to this since the original story which I hope you may like! Pat. 9/8/2016

......................................................................................................................

A "Varda" caravan parked in a field in Co. Wicklow.

These caravans would have been more associated with the English Romanys than the Irish travellers. I don't every remember them being used here, but apparently they were in the 30s and when I was a kid most travellers lived "under canvas" on the roadside. Only the better off ones had small parked up motor drawn caravans.

It was a terribly hard life and the mortality rate among babies was very high. Adults didn't live much beyond 40. I remember a travelling lady used to call to my Mum and Dads house when I was small. She had a tiny baby about a month old in her arms and she said she was camped up the road with her husband. My Mum used to give her a meal and clothes and stuff for the baby and a few coppers and she called regularly. One day she called without the baby and said that it had died of pneumonia. It was very sad and its still stays with me to this day. She only called a few times after that and then obviously moved on. It should make us realise that we are the lucky ones and not be so quick to condemn others!

I have known quite a few Travellers through music and I have always found them nice people though I wouldn't want to get in a row! Lol!

Tinker is considered a derogatory term now for a Traveller but it refers to the fact that they were originally tin smiths and made and mended pots and pans. They were very skilled.

The Irish travellers claim to be directly descended from the high kings of Ireland and came from the 7 tribes of Galway who were evicted from their lands by Oliver Cromwell and they were destined to roam the roads forever.

Most of them are now settled in houses or in official caravan/mobile home sites so the traveller is fast becoming a thing of the past.

This Varda in the pic is one of a number that is rented out for travelling holidays to tourists who like an easy going leisurely holiday. It a big thing with German holidaymakers who like the pace and I must say they spoil the horses completely which is great!

I met two holidaymakers last week who had a donkey with 2 panniers on it with there bags in them and they were trotting along beside it! Didn't get a pic unfortunately but Ill have to enquire about it!

l love to be traveller. My dream is traveling all over the world. Want to take this beautiful creation in to my frame. Praying for this dream comes true.

As we were sitting inside the Searoad Ferry watching the waters of the Bay go by, this fellow traveller, a Praying Mantis was catching his lunch, a spider, that ventured too close. Unfortunately, after a short while the Mantis dropped the spider and didn't seem to want it again when presented back on a piece of paper.

I just wondered how long the Mantis had been travelling on the Ferry!

But then we were called to our cars as the Ferry got close to the dock at Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula. Happy Sliders Sunday!

A rather amazing new artwork in South Brisbane, I just hope Raphael hasn't put his foot on an IED. Here is the background. The sculpture is by Bruno Catalano.

"Raphael’: A Journey Through Fish Lane

The centrepiece of the 51 Fish retail precinct is ‘Raphael’, one of Catalano’s iconic traveller sculptures. This captivating piece portrays a figure in mid-journey carrying luggage and navigating an unseen path. The incomplete form of ‘Raphael’ allows the viewer to see through the sculpture, creating a unique interaction between the artwork, its surroundings, and the onlooker.

The symbolism of ‘Raphael’ is rich and layered. The act of carrying luggage represents the weight of memories, nostalgia, and life’s burdens while also embodying the hopes, pride, and curiosity that drive us to explore new horizons. The piece is a powerful reminder that each of us is on a journey, carrying our own stories and experiences shaped by the places we have been and the people we have encountered.

As visitors and locals alike encounter ‘Raphael’ in Fish Lane, they are invited to engage with the sculpture on a personal level, reflecting on their own journeys and the paths that have brought them to where they are today".
