Petals of a pink lotus in bloom appear translucent in early morning sunlight.

These images are all about playing with translucency. The leaf has been placed on a piece of glass put between two tressles. A soft box is used to illuminate the leaf from below, with metering for the light, not the leaf.

I have had a lot of fun with these and will now try a few different scenarios.

Thin E-Strate is flexible and translucent. It is shown here bent around a Sharpie marker.

this is what i wish i could be..., graceful, delicate and strong enough to withstand the winter with such beauty.

hell, maybe it is me - i guess i can decide it is if i want it to be....

ok then, it is me.

This little plaque made from the Stratford 6-50 porcelain show some translucency where thin. The glaze is the BPØ base with an addition of 2% black stain #6616.

Fired initially around cone 6 and refired at cone 06 at Concordia, the firings were a little cooler than they would have been in my own studio.

It interests me that the translucency survives the refiring.

This was a Translucent Yellow that I dyed to make it Translucent Orange. 2 of this color will be at Turf.

Taken in the garden at Tring. The colourful yet simple contrast between the sky and the leaf compelled me to take this shot.

Liverwort is growing abundantly on our dogwood tree. Tree Ruffle Liverwort (Porella navicularis) is taking over where mosses and lichen once lived. This is a shot straight up the trunk of the dogwood.

I have been converting 35mm slides recently and came across a stained Kodak box of processed slides. At first glance I thought that these had been clear film that had been painted on.

After closer inspection and after scanning I realized that a liquid, chemical, etc? had reacted with the film and altered the film surface and emulsion. The result is quite an unexpected crystalline colorful work of art unto itself .

Film emulsion/gelatin after all is organic.

I was stuck in 5 o'clock traffic and I took this picture from my truck. I was trying to catch the translucent color from the sunset. The mountains look like they were in a aquarium in a musem.

Pigments are used to colour the resin and gelcoat.

Tripod resting against the tree trunk, camera pointing straight up to the fungus which is about 3M up the tree.

Cool and creepy at the same time.
