Aussi loin que les temps l'envisagent, créer des humanités artificielles a toujours été un rêve pour certains êtres peuplant la Terre. On en retrouve la trace dans différents écrits tout au long de l'histoire humaine aussi bien que des expériences dites scientifiques envisageant la transformation de la nature du vivant. Ce rêve tend désormais de nos jours vers le transhumanisme et l'intelligence artificielle qui de jour en jour s’immiscent sournoisement et de plus en plus dans notre quotidien.
Le rêve fou de la création de la vie artificielle
Bien que la science ait fait beaucoup de progrès au cours du siècle dernier, le création de la vie artificielle est un aspect très discuté. Pour certains, c'est le progrès logique des connaissances scientifiques. Pour d'autres, c'est un domaine qui ne devrait pas être envahi par les êtres humains. Les concepts relatifs à la création de la vie artificielle tels que le génie génétique et le clonage humain sont des idées scientifiques relativement modernes. Dans le passé, cependant, c'était dans le domaine de l'alchimie que les scientifiques médiévaux cherchaient à créer artificiellement la vie. De nombreux livres venus d'Extrême-Orient traitent abondamment de la création d'êtres artificiels. De ces sources abondantes, les alchimistes prétendirent qu'il était possible de créer sur ce monde terrestre des apparences animées et pensantes similaire à l'être humain.
