Snow can metamorphose an old structure into something of beauty,

Singapore Botanic Gardens are an oasis of natural beauty and tranquility in a highly urbanized city. The Gardens were established in 1859, and retain the same layout and historical buildings until today.

The Gardens are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and are a global center for plant research, development, and conservation. This was a key institution involved with the introduction of rubber trees in South East Asia, which became a major cash crop for the region.

The greening of Singapore is a direct result of the Gardens' efforts, which devoted their expertise and resources to transform Singapore into the Garden City that it has now become.

The National Orchid Garden has the world's largest display of orchids, and is part of Singapore Botanical Gardens' orchid breeding program, with a repository of one thousand species and two thousand hybrids.

The imposing geology of the Giant's Causeway, Antrim, Northern Ireland.

The Giant's Causeway, located in County Antrim, on the northeast coast of Northern Ireland, is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. The tops of the columns form stepping stones that lead from the cliff foot and disappear under the sea. Most of the columns are hexagonal, although there are also some with four, five, seven and eight sides. The tallest are about 12 metres high, and the solidified lava in the cliffs is 28 metres thick in places.

The structure, 80 meters long and 16 meters high, is made up of some 35,000 wooden planks of all colors.

The ephemeral monumental work of Arne Quinze "The Passenger", erected near the Grand-Place in Mons at the opening of the cultural project "Mons 2015, European Capital of Culture" has been completely dismantled from April 12, 2021.

"For the artist, the void created by the work once removed is an integral part of his artistic approach," said the Mons 2025 Foundation. "The void is like a starting point for a new way of thinking about the way of making our public spaces more diversified ". As announced during its design, the components of "The Passenger" will be recycled: the wood used in the structure will be transformed into paper pulp and the screws will be recovered.

Shenzhen

A collaboration between goat transforming into a cathedral

and myself.

A work in progress.

Was actually slightly grey

Darker around the edges

A definite tinge

A flirtatious curve at the bottom

As if daring you to imagine something

Transform it into a different existence

It’s texture was surprising

Smooth and soft like the very top

Of a snowy slope

But hung indoors

It reflected onto the black linoleum floor that was speckled

With unpredictable dashes of white

When you looked down

You imagined

You were floating in a

Modern art galaxy very far away

From everything and everyone

You know

When you looked up you realized

It wasn’t a blank canvas at all.

In May, I went to a doctor's appointment that was very difficult for me. Most of the time, I try to forget about my biology but my heart will often skip beats and I keep spending more money to get no answers, making me wonder if it's just in my head.

I have been living in Chicago for over 20 years but I had never come across The Arts Club of Chicago even though it is located very central downtown near a couple of doctor's offices. It was a dreary day and I spent some time wandering around and happened upon this gallery featuring the exhibit by Huguette Caland: Bribes de corps. It's amazing how art finds you when you least expect it. I found myself staring at canvases and writing poems to calm my nervous system.

This exhibit is ending very soon but I revisited this weekend. The bottom section is the actual canvas. The top portion is a multiple exposure of the canvas and a photograph of a woman passing by from the window opposite of the painting.

Thanks to Karol for all the interesting information which I copied here: ".... a splendid Gothic palace named La Conciergerie built under King Philip the Fair, later transformed into a revolutionary prison. "

During my education I went twice on a week-long study trip to Paris with the class. The first trip was in 1974.

I had my first SLR camera , an Asahi Pentax SP II which I bought second hand from my long time and hardly saved pocket money, and only one slide film roll with 36 exposures with me! My pocket money wasn't enough for more.

The film material has suffered a lot over the years, but I only have a small selection here for those friends who are interested in seeing what it was like in Paris at the time.

I took the photo with an analogue Asahi Pentax SP II (M42) camera and slide film, then scanned with a Nikon Coolscan LS 40ED film scanner

The American flag blowing in the wind near a window captured here reflecting and distorting in the glass of an old chalk drawing hanging on the living room wall. The soft vertical lines reflected in the glass are from vertical blinds.

It's a lazy photograph, you might say. I snapped it while sitting on the couch.

When winter unfurls its icy embrace, the world transforms into a wonderland of ethereal beauty. The landscape, once adorned in the lush hues of autumn, now dons a pristine white coat, as delicate snowflakes blanket the earth like nature's own embroidery. Trees stand adorned with glistening icicles, and the ground sparkles under the soft glow of moonlight. Silence descends, broken only by the crisp crunch of snow underfoot. The air is crisp and clean, carrying the invigorating scent of pine and the promise of new beginnings. Winter, a painter with a frosty palette, transforms the familiar into a realm of enchantment, where each snow-covered branch, each glistening frost-kissed surface, whispers tales of magic and quiet marvels. In this winter wonderland, nature reveals itself as a master storyteller, captivating hearts with its frozen tapestry and inviting all to revel in the breathtaking allure of the season.

My local pier, which is no longer in use, has fallen into a state of disrepair. I still see it as a thing of beauty and interest. I captured this image at sunrise yesterday and although there was little colour, due to the impending rain clouds, the Long Exposure gave some lovely movement in the sky and smoothed the water nicely. Beauty from something which at first glance, was not so beautiful.

caballito-del-diablo

Ischunura

Odonata - Coenagrionidae

Cinnabar Moth on Ragwort

St Edmundsbury Cathedral is the cathedral for the Church of England's Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich. It is the seat of the Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich and is in Bury St Edmunds. A church has stood on the site of the cathedral since at least 1065, when St Denis's Church was built within the precincts of Bury St Edmunds Abbey. In the early 12th century the Abbot, Anselm had wanted to make a pilgrimage along the Way of St James to Santiago de Compostela. He was unsuccessful and instead rebuilt St Denis's and dedicated the new church to Saint James, which served as the parish church for the north side of Bury St Edmunds. This church was largely rebuilt, starting in 1503, with more alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries. When the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich was created in 1914, St James Church was made the cathedral. In 1959 Benjamin Britten wrote the Fanfare for St Edmundsbury for a "Pageant of Magna Carta" held in the cathedral grounds. From 1960 onwards, there was renewed building work designed to transform the parish church into a cathedral building, with the rebuilding of the chancel and the creation of transepts and side chapels. The cathedral architect from 1943 to 1988 was Stephen Dykes Bower and he left £2 million for the completion of the cathedral. In the cathedral grounds a new choir school and visitor's centre were built which were opened in 1990. A Gothic revival tower was built between 2000 and 2005. The font was designed in 1870 by George Gilbert Scott, constructed on a medieval shaft, with a cover by F. E. Howard of Oxford. The decoration was added in 1960.

In addition to guided tours of the cathedral itself, visitors can view changing exhibits of art in the Edmund Gallery, and an exhibit of historic and religious regalia and artefacts in the Cathedral Treasures display. The painting "The Martyrdom of St Edmund" by Brian Whelan hangs in the Lady Chapel.
