Dead man fingers, a type of seeweed (Codium fragile) look so different than when they are covered in water. the soft glow of the morning illuminates the delicate tendrils.

I, with a deeper instinct, choose a man who compels my strength, who makes enormous demands on me, who does not doubt my courage or my toughness, who does not believe me naïve or innocent, who has the courage to treat me like a woman.

Driving up the A82 towards Fort William always without fail forces you to make a decision at this point, do I call in at this little spot for the umpteenth thousandth time and get the same shot (or similar) as I have previously, or do I just carry on and get to where I'm headed in good time....?

In this case 4 of us were headed to Skye and could have really done with pushing on towards the Island, but one of our party had never been to this location before so there's no way we were going to go past, I think I wanted him to see it as much as he wanted to !

The conditions on the way up had been just incredible, freezing cold weather with a good layer of hoar frost on all the trees and some superb light to pick out all those little frosty details.

We had to walk down from the A82 as the road had been closed off down to Glen Etive due to the severe ice and snow, the scene when we got to this spot was just a real wow moment, I'd seen it in snow before but never like this, and the nornally gushing falls were redcued to a mere a slivver of water trickling over the rocky edge through the thick ice, the big tree to the left now taking on en entirely new form with it's glistening frosty coating, a nice bit of sunlight creeeping in from the side and absolutely no wind whatsoever. About as good conditions as we could have wanted, even the blue sky wasn't an issue as the wispy cloud brushing over the Buachaille showed up really well against the backdrop.

The scene was a complete transformation from anything I'd seen before and absolutely 100% worth a revisit to get the 'classic' shot, although i fairness this really doesn't look like any other I've got here, this one's getting printed and going next to the other 2 from this location on my wall.

Mike has done a great vlog of this trip to Skye in several parts, well worth a watch, they can be found here:

This gnarly hawthorn tree would not have got a second glance without the help of this little flurry snow, now it has been transformed. All I had to do was to get some sort of separation from the chaos around it.

"I suggest that the most significant basis for meeting of men of different religious traditions is the level of fear and trembling, of humility and contrition, where our individual moments of faith are mere waves in the endless ocean of mankind's reaching out for God, where all formulations and articulations appear pear as understatements, where our souls are swept away by the awareness of the urgency of answering God's commandment, while stripped of pretension and conceit we sense the tragic insufficiency of human faith." This "tragic insufficiency sufficiency of human faith," according to Heschel, coupled with an acute yearning for God's presence, could foster the spiritual companionship of "humility mility and contrition," open-mindedness, as a precondition of true interfaith dialogue.'

--Abraham Joshua Heschel, (as quoted in Edward K. Kaplan, Spiritual Radical: Abraham Joshua Heschel in America, 1940-1972)

"The supreme issue today is not the halakhah for the Jew or the Church for the Christian-but the premise underlying derlying both religions, namely, whether there is a pathos, a divine reality concerned with the destiny of man which mysteriously impinges upon history."

--Abraham Joshua Heschel, (as quoted in Edward K. Kaplan, Spiritual Radical: Abraham Joshua Heschel in America, 1940-1972)

We were back to the gannet colony on Oct 10, 26 days later than when this image was taken. There has been quite a change in the appearance of the chicks and many of them had already left the nesting rock. I believe this to be the same chick as I photographed on Oct 10th (see previous image)

S Barciński in 1884 founded a woolen factory at 6 Tylna Street, and two years later a woolen and semi-woolen spinning mill, weaving and finishing shop was established - one of the first electrically illuminated enterprises in Łódź.

Currently, the area of the Barciński Park housing estate. A successful example of revitalizing former factory areas.

Flickr, today was a pretty sad day- one of my pets died this night. she was quite old, a 14 year old cat. But I was really sad today and I feel like I am missing her.

I hope she is doing good, where ever she might be!

Meet me on facebook! :-)

A Golden-crowned Sparrow appeared in a local park back in November and stayed through the winter until it left sometime around second half of April. This gave an opportunity to study how the bird plumage changed over the months from basic to breeding. Here's a composite of two photos, the one on the left was taken on Nov 21 2021, whereas the second on the right was taken on April 17, 2022. The faint yellow on its crown transformed into bright yellow with black marking around the eyebrow, giving it a full adult breeding plumage. Scarborough Heights Park, Toronto, Ontario.
