The Rajindra Kothi in the Baradari Palace has been leased for 30 years to the Neemrana Group who have made it into a heritage hotel called "The Baradari Palace". I was initially skeptical about this government move but the group has done a great job of preserving the dilapidating hotel. They have refurbished it and made it livable while preserving the antique look, so much so that some old unused stair cases are preserved as it is or some part of the walls is left unpainted to show the weathered look. I am happy about what happened to the "Rajindra Kothi" and how it preserved the identity of my city. If you happen to visit Patiala then do check it out for overnight stay, priced at Rs. 3000 for a single room at Rs. 5000 for a magnificent king size double room.

this damselfly , which I think is probably a common blue will have emerged from the body of it's nymph, seen below it , only this morning , and is waiting for the time when it will be ready to take to the air , and in a day or so , take on it's true colours
this insect will have spent up to 5 years living under water as a nymph , but once it emerges it will probably only live for around perhaps 12 days as a damselfly

Today the Dominicans' church is a book shop. Selexyz Dominicanen Book Shop, called by many “the most beautiful book shop in the world”, which also has a cultural function.
Construction of the church of the Dominicans was started in 1267, and it must have been finished c. 1280. The church is a good example of the Mosan style of Gothicism.
Typical for this style are the basilican shape of the building, the use of marl, fake triforiums and the so-called Maaskapiteel (Maascapital), a piece of sculpture that formed the top of a column and was richly decorated with stylized leaves.
The church must have been richly decorated once, but of this very little is left. Only a few badly ages paintings on the ceilings remind of better days. In 1794 the French occupiers hunted the Dominicans out of the city, after which the church was used by a parish for several more years. But in 1805 the building became a warehouse, and most of the interior's works of art moved to other churches. More recently the building was used as an archive and bicycle parking.
The Municipality of Maastricht restored the church and its many valuable frescos, including a 1337 mural depicting the life of Thomas Aquinas, to their former glory.

Sinds het najaar van 2006 zetelt boekhandel selexyz dominicanen in de van 1280 daterende Dominicanenkerk te Maastricht.
De Dominicanenkerk is al vanaf 1804 niet meer voor religieuze diensten in gebruik. In tweehonderd jaar heeft het gebouw vele functies gekend, voornamelijk als opslagruimte, maar ook als fietsenstalling en carnavalstempel. Vooral de wandschilderingen hebben daarbij schade opgelopen. Voor de restauratie werd een ontwerp gemaakt door architectenbureau Merkx & Girod uit Amsterdam. In 2006 is de restauratie van de kerk afgerond. Nadat de winkel werd geopend, zijn ook de schilderingen, waaronder de wandschildering uit 1337, met de oudst bekende voorstelling van Thomas van Aquino, gerestaureerd.
Entre Deux is een modern, grotendeels overdekt winkelcentrum in de Binnenstad van Maastricht. Het winkelcentrum ligt tussen het Vrijthof en de Markt. De naam van het winkelcentrum vloeit voort uit deze ligging, want de vertaling van het Franse 'Entre Deux' is 'Tussen twee', tussen twee pleinen dus, in dit geval. De hoofdtoegangen bevinden zich aan het Domicanerkerkplein en in de Spilstraat. De toegang tot de ondergrondse parkeergarage ligt aan de Helmstraat.
Eind jaren '60 werd op de plek van het oude Dominicanenklooster en het voormalige Stedelijk Gymnasium gestart met de bouw van een nieuw warenhuis voor de Belgische firma Grand Bazar, tot dan toe gevestigd aan de Kleine Staat. Tijdens de bouw raakte het warenhuisconcern in financiële problemen, waardoor de vestiging in Maastricht werd opgeheven. De ruwbouw van het complex bleef hierdoor lang leegstaan.
In de jaren '70 werd besloten op de begane grond een winkelcentrum in te richten. Op de bovenverdiepingen nam het Bonnefantenmuseum haar intrek. Zowel het museum als het winkelcentrum met de onderliggende parkeergarage bleken redelijk succesvol te functioneren op deze plek, hoewel het complex door veel mensen als 'lelijk' werd beoordeeld. De massieve betonnen constructie, een voorbeeld van het Brutalisme, voegde zich in elk geval niet bijzonder fraai in de historische omgeving.
Rond 2004 werd gestart met de sloop van het oude winkelcentrum. Het gebouw werd vervangen door een postmodern complex, ontworpen door de Maastrichtse architect Arno Meijs. Gebruikmakend van het natuurlijke hoogteverschil, ontwierp Meijs tussen het Dominicanerkerkplein en de Spilstraat een licht hellende, overdekte hoofdstraat, met op drie etages winkels aan binnenstraten. Delen van het oude Dominicanenklooster kregen een horecafunctie. Rondom een plein op de bovenste etage zijn luxe appartementen gebouwd. Het ontwerp van Arno Meijs ontving diverse prijzen.[1] [2] In 2006 openden de eerste winkels hun deuren.
Een bijzonder onderdeel van het winkelcentrum Entre Deux is de Selexyz boekhandel, gevestigd in de 13e eeuwse Dominicanenkerk. Deze boekhandel werd in 2008 door de Britse krant The Guardian uitgeroepen tot 'mooiste boekhandel ter wereld'

Pararealgar Transformation - After 11 years on display, the scarlet crystals of realgar in this specimen have turned to pararealgar because of exposure to light. Macro view of large quartz specimen with red and orange crystals, some powder. For a view from 11 years ago, here is a small and poor quality photo I shared from that time when the crystals were red and still realgar:
the dress becomes a princess gown, when you move her arm with the mic she also starts singing when the dress turn to the rock star outfit.

Bildbeschreibung: Gesunde Zellen werden durch ein Geflecht aus dünnen, fadenförmigen Strukturen in Form gehalten. Dies ist das sogenannten Zytoskelett und zwei Hauptkomponenten sind die Proteine Aktin (hier in Pink) und Tubulin (weiß). In Krebszellen führen bereits kleine molekulare Abweichungen zu gänzlich abnormaler Zellform und -bewegung. Dieses Immunfluoreszenz-Bild zeigt eine Momentaufnahme dieser Veränderung (Zelle in grün), die hier kontrolliert durch das Anschalten eines bestimmten Gens hervorgerufen wurde. Das Gen ist ein Aktivator der sogenannten Rho-GTPasen, die molekularen Schalter zur Umorganisation des Zytoskeletts.
Projektbeschreibung: Der Krebszelle auf der Spur
Die Koordination der Zytoskelett-Komponenten unterliegt der Kontrolle der Rho-GTPasen. Diese werden wiederum von Regulatorproteinen beeinflusst. Manchmal ist das Zusammenspiel aber gestört, was dann zu Krebs führen kann. Unser Ziel ist es, neue Ansätze für zukünftige Therapien gegen Krebs zu finden. Es ist dafür besonders wichtig zu ergründen und in der Kulturschale nachzustellen, welche Veränderungen im Zytoskelett der Krebszellen vorgehen. Dafür schauen wir uns die Rho-GTPasen und ihre Regulatorproteine ganz genau an.

I feel the seasons changing right now. the the tide coming and going. bringing the new weather of time to come.
I took this picture a last year, but I recently came across it and liked it for one reason or another. I like how it's still in the sea, but not for long. I see it as a symbolic transformation of what has been and what will come to be.
I was trying to frame a monument at Mahabalipuram when this girl suddenly appeared in the frame . All I had to do was press the shutter.
This year will practice more in the art of B&W
Strobist: Used flexTT5's and ac3 zone controller set to manual. 1/ 580EXII in a 2X3' CL softbox about 1' from crayons camera top so I can get in close with macro lens.
Next to One world trade center station, PATH, there was a building under construction. On the other side, there's a glass wall skyscraper looks obscure with the reflection on the wall similar to the background of the cloudy New York's sky. Having such less usual buildings side by side, the construction started appearing as a neo-futuristic transformation.
