Of the five Wellies from the "Wondrous Wellie Wishers Lot," this Willa was in the roughest shape. The "before" images here didn't capture all her issues. Willa had a variety of nicks and scratches all over her face. Luckily, they were minor--you can only see them up close. Her wig was also a train wreck. She is supposed to come with her hair styled into two curly pigtails. Much of the curliness had been brushed out, although parts were still textured. Overall, her tresses felt super dry and scratchy. I knew that I would most likely have to fully boil wash her hair, in order to restore the moisture and sleekness. Despite her grubby appearance and ratty wig, this Willa doll was still so adorable upon arrival. I absolutely adore her shocking green eyes and the sprinkle of freckles over her cheeks! She's a cutie pie, even in these "before" images!

:-O Shock! Horror! Tony's posted a colour image! Make the most of it as I'm not out shooting much plus it's probably going to be my only autumnal shot this year, for time's running out, the cold winds are a blowin' and the leaves they are a goin', mmmm!

It's kind of an appropriate image considering that Samhain (Halloween) is nearly upon us, although that wasn't my reason for taking the shot, I just happened to enjoy the colours and the juxtaposition of subject matter.

Jay and I were passing through the graveyard of a derelict church on the way to a possible photogenic location (a total bust, c'est la vie!) when we happened upon this scene. Four huge Lime trees ran along the edge of the graveyard, their canopies backlit by a low sun, and with a gentle breeze they formed an incredible shimmering curtain of autumnal yellow. At first it seemed somewhat incongruous to see such a vibrant, life enhancing colour surrounding a place of the dead...and yet, isn't that what autumn is, the death throes of summer, a time of transformation, proof that nothing is fixed or final, that everything is in a constant state of flux, changing and becoming, living and dying, dying and living, a never ending cycle...just like my words, eh! I can't help but smile at the incredibly optimistic and desperately hopeful word carved into the cross, 'RESTING'... obviously this was/is a "half glass full" type of Christian who believed in the Resurrection, literally!...I wonder if he was buried with a spade, if not, best of luck getting out of the hole!

We humans have very odd concepts about life and death, all based on one single fear; what happens after we die?, and in an attempt to assuage that fear we have created science and religion...meanwhile, if only we'd pay attention, infinite nature with infinite patience goes on showing us everyday what life and death is about...that everyday is a new day, so dive into it with a big grin and swim!

Swimming is probably all I could do if I went outside because the weather here is vile, darkly overcast and piddling down with a steady grey rain, I hope everyone else is doing better. I hear some of you are getting your first snows of the year! Good thing, bad thing? I'm still struggling to find the time get out to shoot and to get onto flickr but the tide is turning... Have a good week and good light! :-)

january 4th; late new years resolution

today i'll start changing for the better, i'll try. it just might take me a while.

some things i want to say

-please disregard how retarded the "i'll transform" looks, i don't have the natural talent of writing upside down and backwards

-you can't really see the texture but i got it here

-so far i'm loving 365 because i now know what the date is

-last night i didn't go to sleep until around 3AM because i kept having these ideas for a story, hopefully it'll amount to something

-the white in the picture is a sheet, not a dress ;)

-i really really wanna do a photo shoot with someone, but i just don't know where to start..

-i hope you all had an amazing day!

"so far away from that low down good for nothing mistake making fool with excuses like

"baby that was a long time ago"

but that's just a euphemism. if you want the truth he was out of control but a short time's a long time when your mind just won't let it go"- Jack Johnson

This is just another beautiful transformation in this long meaningful life of mine.

There will be many more in the future.. I am not afraid to be different. This is an ongoing process that will change me, better me, & mold me into who I am tomorrow. :]

Life is the most amazing journey that we will ever be on- full of: changes, smiles, tears, love, transformations, and growing. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. Enjoy all of the good times & remember them always- while forgetting the bad.

Most of all: Be yourself. Life your life the way that YOU want to live it..

A time for dreaming

Of a new beginning

Take that inner journey

Day 2 Urban Transformation Summit 2022 in The Madison, Detroit, Mi on October 11

501 Marina Boulevard in San Francisco sits at the corner of Scott Street in the Marina District, an area known for its post-1920s development following the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. This white stucco building, with its Mediterranean Revival style, reflects a design popular during the early 20th century. Characterized by its red tile roof, arched windows, and decorative balconies, the building evokes an Old World charm that aligns with the district's architectural roots. The clean lines and symmetrical facade complement its urban coastal surroundings, offering an understated elegance.

The Marina District's transformation into a residential area came after the exposition, with land reclaimed from the bay. Many buildings here, including 501 Marina, were constructed to meet the growing demand for upscale housing. The neighborhood's design reflects a mix of aesthetics inspired by Spanish and Italian influences, with this structure standing as a representative example. Its prominent location provides a commanding view of the bay, with proximity to landmarks like the Palace of Fine Arts and Crissy Field.

Though the architect of this specific building is not widely documented, its style reflects broader trends in the district, where architects sought to create a seamless blend between California's coastal environment and Mediterranean influences. From its graceful arches to its warm-toned roof tiles, this property underscores the era's emphasis on aesthetics and functionality. Today, it stands as a reminder of the district's transformation into a sought-after residential area following San Francisco's historical evolution.

Day 2 Urban Transformation Summit 2022 in The Madison, Detroit, Mi on October 11

I wanted to do a macro monday shot. The theme this week is transformation, and I wanted to show a positive transformation from addictions, compulsive behaviour and depression. I was being a bit (!!!) ambitous and way overly pretentious and grandiose to do justice to such a serious and life debilitating illness. But I went outside, sat on the steps and lit up some cigs to use as props. In the right hand side there is gambling, smoking, caffeine addiction, alchohol and anti-depressants..... the blurred 120 film roll in the shot represents transformation. The shot doesn't work as the emphasis is more on the downs than a positive ending. But I took them, and that in itself is proof of positive transformation. Sorry for being a bit heavy, I hope you are having a good day :))

Part of an ongoing experiment with image manipulation: The images are the result of a 2 stage process. First, a photo is taken of a moving subject. What results is a blurred image, the distortion magnified by the grain and contrast achieved by overdevelopment of the film in the darkroom. Already the face or body has been transformed by the simple act of movement. Then in the second stage, the photo is printed. Sometimes thick glossy varnish is applied across the whole surface of the image, or alternatively, the photo is simply printed onto glossy paper. This is when more magic happens. Shining light directly onto the surface of the paper, the image is transformed again. This time the transforming agent is light. The surface of the photograph interacts with what is contained within the image. A final photo is taken.

"The joy we get as actors is out of transforming ourselves into something that's not necessarily anything true to ourselves.

And it's a power - not being yourself, and being in the role; it's just like another prop."

(Reese Witherspoon - American actress, b.1976)

This belongs to the magic backstage, when actors get ready before the show...
