I rode in the front half of this car en route to Ann Arbor, the business class section. I actually thought it was pretty nice, though I wouldn't upgrade to it on other trains(since the downstate Amtrak trains in Illinois charge $14 for the upgrade, while its much cheaper to do so on the Michigan trains).
Pic was take right after I deboarded the train, and about a minute before its departure towards Detroit and Pontiac, MI.

Finally finished my CSX AC6000. Very happy with this one and it's a monster. Rebuilt the vents flush for jaster, which is more prototypical. Unpowered, talltim slider trucks, 6 wide and 48 long. #601 is the 'Spirit of Waycross', but I just couldn't make that sticker.

This week for 52 Weeks of 2011 the theme was "Processing, before and after"... this is the after, most done in Lightroom. The after is below.
January 1963 was the coldest month of the twentieth century with temperatures dropping to -19° C and much of England and Wales was snow-covered. It was correctly known as "The Big Freeze" because it was into March before outdoor temperatures reached above freezing point.
The effects on everyday life were far reaching and on the railways the new diesel locos found the conditions very difficult. Steam locos appeared to cope better, and most trains seemed to be steam hauled. Here is a selection of shots from that month; the snow around was not so deep but it was bitterly cold.

B&O 7100 was an EL-1 class 2-8-8-0 Mallet compound, built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1916. Subsequent EL-2, EL-3 and EL-5 class locomotives were very similar. Most were converted to simple articulateds starting in 1927.

The tracks disappear into the brush. I remember when you could see all the way to Thelwall from here, shortly before being deafened by neeeeeeeee nooooooorrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!. Twice I came within a few milli seconds of being hit by a freight train and diving off the tracks with my heart pounding out of my chest.
