White Rock Railway
The City of White Rock has a railway that runs along the waterfront. This single track rail line operates 24 hours a day and is operated by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) and is used by BNSF and Amtrak passenger trains.
White Rock Pier was built with Federal Funds in 1914.
Originally the length was 628 feet long. The Pier officially re-opened in 1915 after an additional 983 feet were added, increasing the length to 1500 feet (470 metres).
The pier has a sign identifying it as Canada's longest pier.
White Rock is an oceanfront city in British Columbia, Canada, and a member municipality of Metro Vancouver.

With a Warbonnet on the point (753), I set out to photograph this U TOPTOP Geometry train. Unfortunately, the sun won the battle this time, but in the going away shot, I was able to get a nice view of the track lights on cars 87 & 88 that were lighting up BNSF's Topeka Sub at the east end of Tecumseh.

There are 2 memories of Michael Jackson's music that stick out in my mind.
One is of me when I was 10 years old staying at the beach in Corpus Christi with my cousin. We played Thriller all night and just danced and danced until we fell down from exhaustion...
The second is from when I was dj'ing at a club back in the late 90's. I had been preparing for a gig playing house music, and I knew this was going to be a pretty big crowd I'd be playing to. I really wanted to do something different to shake things up, and I had one particular house track that actually went into a drum & bass breakdown in the middle of the track. I brought one other drum & bass record with me to mix with it, and brought my copy of Thriller with me as well. When I got to that point in my set, the drum & bass started out of the house track, and then I mixed into the other drum & bass record.
That's when the magic happened.
I threw on "Human Nature" over the drum & bass track and kept the beats lined up so that it played over...
The crowd went fuckin' nuts cheering and dancing.
I mixed back out of it into the house track by using the middle portion of the track to come back in, and later that night I had people asking me who that Michael Jackson remix was by...it was sweet :)
Whether you're a fan of his now or not, you most likely have some good memories of listening to Michael...I'd love for you to share them with me :)

This is a series I shot for my last class at VPW. While others were using the big lights I reverted to something that I cooked up myself: projecting symbols using my Cookie Gun. This is a projector using a flash shooting a cucoloris ("cookie") through a telephoto lens. More info on my blog.
This cookie is a sufi symbol called "The Hand of Fatima". or Hamsa.
With the telephoto I can focus and zoom the image though with this version of it, it is quite limited. That said, I got quite a bit of interest from a couple of the instructors at VPW so I'm glad to 'return some of the learning' I got in that studio course.
Model
This is my friend Tamara who subbed in for a model who had an emergency and couldn't make it. She has a dancer's physique and soldiered on through the demands even after a C-stand accidentally fell on her. Yes, I made a model cry.

Kitchen reno from Nov. 10 (demolition day) to Dec. 18 (completion date).
Night falls on the kitchen. Today, the appliances were set into position and the electricians connected power to them and to the under-cabinet LED lites (shown here), replaced the existing light switches & electrical outlets, reattached the sconce above the sink, and changed the 3 overhead tracklight bulbs from incandescent spot (wrong light for this kitchen!) to LED.
Green tape = temporary pulls, until the owner makes a decision on door & drawer pulls.
Tomorrow, some minor touch-ups will be done, the cardboard protector removed from the floor, and the dining table and rug returned to the dinette.

Kitchen is by Redl: MDF cabinets painted with Benjamin Moore's "Dove Wing"; oak-panelled island stained dark brown. Kitchen walls are painted "Collingwood"; window trim, "Cloud White".
Vicostone quartz countertops in "Serra", Ames "Elements" series 4" x 6" glass tile backsplash in "Forest" colour.
Integrated dishwasher by Miele is hidden by a cabinet panel & recessed toekick; all other appliances by Jenn-Air.
Fridge & ovens have what they call "floating" white glass panels.
Stainless steel undermount sink, "Alta" pull-out faucet & "Torre" soap dispenser by Blanco. Light switches, outlets & wall plates by Legrand.

I had one more "outtake" of the Discovery model after all. The track lighting helps to separate the model from the ceiling, but it's too bad LACMA didn't allow the walls and ceiling to be painted black, or have some sort of starfield wallpaper that could be removed later. It would have provided a more striking effect, making the visitor feel as they were observing something from space.
