Mam Tor can be found in the High Peak of Derbyshire. Standing at 1696ft it's only classed as a hill....

Quest'anno sarà difficile vedere le stelle cadenti Perseidi, a causa della luna piena...
ma è sempre bello ricordare le costellazioni da cui prendono il nome gli sciami meteorici.
A partire dal basso, in questa foto, si vede il Toro con Aldebaran, le Iadi e le Pleiadi.
Poi il Perseo con la rossa nebulosa California al centro dell'immagine. E poi parte dell'Auriga e infine, in alto, la Cassiopea con le nebulose di idrogeno, sempre di colore rosso.
Se ingrandite, vedrete che ogni puntino è una stella.

Das Brandenburger Tor in Berlin steht am Pariser Platz im historischen Stadtviertel Dorotheenstadt im Ortsteil Mitte (Bezirk Mitte). Es wurde in den Jahren von 1788 bis 1791 auf Anweisung des preußischen Königs Friedrich Wilhelm II. von Carl Gotthard Langhans errichtet und ist ein bekanntes Wahrzeichen und nationales Symbol, mit dem viele wichtige Ereignisse der Geschichte Berlins, Deutschlands, Europas und der Welt des 20. Jahrhunderts verbunden sind. Der Bau ist dem frühklassizistischen Stil zuzuordnen und gehört architektonisch zum Typus der Triumphtore.
Das Brandenburger Tor bildet mit dem Pariser Platz den Abschluss des Boulevards Unter den Linden. Auf der Westseite des Tores liegt der Platz des 18. März, an dem die Straße des 17. Juni beginnt, die den Tiergarten durchquert.
Das Brandenburger Tor markierte die Grenze zwischen Ost- und West-Berlin und damit die Grenze zwischen den Staaten des Warschauer Paktes und der NATO. Es war bis zur deutschen Wiedervereinigung Symbol des Kalten Krieges und wurde nach 1990 zum Symbol der Wiedervereinigung Deutschlands und Europas.

The rain was hanging near Belstone Tor in the far distance and came in hard just as we finished the hike.
Das Friedländer Tor in Neubrandenburg wurde in der ersten Hälfte des 14. Jahrhunderts im Stil der norddeutschen Backsteingotik errichtet. Es ist das nordöstliche und am vollständigsten erhaltene der vier Neubrandenburger Stadttore. Die Namensbezeichnung „Friedländer Tor“ bezeichnet die Richtung der Ausfallstraße, der heutigen B 104. Sie führt zunächst in Richtung Osten und später über die B 197 weiter nach Friedland.
Das Tor schützte die Stadt in Richtung Pommern und wurde als Torburg mit 88 Meter Gesamtlänge ausgebaut. Im Dreißigjährigen Krieg wurde das Tor stadtseitig von General Tilly erstürmt, nachdem sich die kaiserlichen Truppen Zugang zur Stadt durch einen Mauerdurchbruch neben dem Tor verschafft hatten.
Das Haupttor ist ein zweigeschossiger Torturm und besitzt auf der Stadtseite einen polygonalen Treppenturm. Dieser Treppenturm wurde im dritten Viertel des 15. Jahrhunderts zusammen mit der gesamten Stadtseite des Tores neu aufgebaut. Das Vortor mit kleinem Satteldach zwischen den Fialen ist ein zweistöckiger, weniger repräsentativer Bau. Er ist über zwei Mauern immer noch mit dem Haupttor verbunden. Im Tordurchbruch in der Bildmitte sind Teile des s.g. Zingels erkennbar.
Er befand sich vor der Doppeltoranlage des Friedländer Tores. Gebaut kurz vor dem Dreißigjährigen Krieg, sollte dieses Bauwerk die Toranlage zusätzlich schützen. Der Bau verfügte auf der Stadtseite über tiefe Stichbogennischen und feldseitig war er mit Schießscharten versehen. Die ehemals verbindenden Zwingermauern zum Tor wurden im 19. Jahrhundert abgebrochen.
In dem Gebäude rechts hinten befindet sich ein Cafe und gegenüber liegt das Standesamt der Stadt Neubrandenburg.

Views from Oke Tor last Sunday, our picnic spot for the day. So far, we haven't ventured farther into the moorland than Oke Tor when starting in Belstone, but we set ourselves a goal to go beyond later in the year.

A view from Mel Tor with the Dart Valley snaking across the frame and Venford Reservoir in the distance.
This was taken from Combestone Tor, which is in the centre of Dartmoor, half way between Hexworthy and Venford Reservoir. It is virtually on the edge of the road, and is the most accessible of all the Dartmoor Tors. There are beautiful views of the valley of the River Dart, with Dartmeet and the remains of its clapper bridge about a mile away across country.

Another shot from last Mondays trip to Siblyback Lake. This was taken with my back to the lake looking at Tregarrick Tor, shortly before the sun set. Some nice light emerged and some storm clouds were moving closer - luckily by this point they had lost their temper and were looking a little more welcoming!

There's been some serious weather today. My route was blocked by a fallen tree near Grindleford. Two articulated lorries had blown over on the Buxton to Leek Road. Hope everyone's OK. There's been some wonderful stormy light. But by the time I got to Shining Tor the storms had set in. I waited through wave after wave of halestorms driven horizontally by the gale force winds. The sun never managed to break through.
My first trip to Higger Tor, and probably not my last. There were so many potential compositions that it was hard to settle on just one, but the heart shaped rock in the mid-ground of this composition, along with the leading lines of heather in the fractured gritstone made me choose this one. Shortly after this I lost the highlights on the foreground rocks and the image didn't work so well after that.
First shot of 2019 I headed up to Higger Tor in the Peak district. The sun didn't show until around half 9. This was one from around sunrise time. I actually prefer this to the one with the sun in. Happy new year everyone!
Ratinger Tor is a historical building in Düsseldorf. It was built in the 19th century and is the only preserved city gate of the former fortification. Today it is a popular meeting place for tourists and locals who can enjoy the beautiful architecture and atmosphere of the old town.
Den nördlichen Abschluß der Stadtmauer bildet das Sandauer Tor, das 1630 in die bereits bestehende Stadtmauer gebaut wurde. Der Name des Tores wurde nach einem kleinen Marktfleck gewählt, der im Städtekrieg im 14. Jahrhundert teilweise zerstört wurde und eine Viertelstunde lechabwärts liegt. Aufgrund vieler Brandschatzungen siedelten sich die Bewohner von Sandau auf dem Vorderen und Hinteren Anger an. Die erneute Stadterweiterung wurde notwendig, um den neuen Bürgern Schutz innerhalb der Mauer zu bieten.
From our hike on Dartmoor last Sunday. Our second pit-stop was the top of King's Tor, a lovely vantage point overlooking the surrounding moorland and nearby granite quarries. I could not really find out why the outcrops is named King's Tor, maybe anyone has some insight to share?

Winter returned to the Peak District hills yesterday in no uncertain terms giving the harshest conditions for walking in I've endured all winter. Don't be fooled by this very temporary sunny scene!
