Combestone Tor is right in the centre of Dartmoor, where it overlooks the beautiful valley of the River Dart. It is probably the most accessible of all the 100+ tors, with a road passing within a few yards.

Happy fence friday!

Re-working old images again. Look carefully and you may see deer

This was taken from Combestone Tor, which is in the centre of Dartmoor, half way between Hexworthy and Venford Reservoir. It is virtually on the edge of the road, and is the most accessible of all the Dartmoor Tors. There are beautiful views of the valley of the River Dart, with Dartmeet and the remains of its clapper bridge about a mile away across country.

As with most of the Dark Peaks Edges, Derwent Edge is Westerly facing often photographed at sunset.

Morning light gives a very different feel and other compositions open up. I was hoping for clear skies in the East and cloud in the West to shoot along the edge. What I got was an amazing but brief sunrise then a walk with the sun behind cloud. By the time it reappeared, the light was harsh but I thought this one was worth a share.

We passed over the 1713ft summit of Cats tor unable to see a sausage as the mist was that thick...no chance for photographs on top, I was beginning to wonder why Cats tor was on the list at all. However those that walk the hills will know that these mists can disperse just like that, and as we trudged off towards Shining tor we were treated to a view back towards the hill it's massive bulk looming above the moorland. At that moment I realised why it was on my 100 list.

Another shot from Shining Tor on a lovely day a couple of weeks ago. Been up here many times and this is the only day I have had some proper golden light. Great place anyway, no matter the conditions.

Ernsthaft, wer von euch hat sich denn schon mal so genau die Radabweiser am Brandenburger Tor angesehen?! :-)

Feine Kunstschmiedearbeit, nur damit das Kutschenrad nicht den Torsockel beschädigt...

Exposed to the elements at Saddle Tor under dark skies, hail and rain with strong winds for two hours waiting for a moment of magic. A rainbow appearing over this well known tree is what I came for just before I was too cold to carry on. The hot tea, a banana and Mars bar was much needed back at the car soon after I took this shot.

Had a wander up to Millstone Edge on Tuesday evening but didn't come away with anything worth sharing from there - just after sunset I had a wander up onto Over Owler Tor as ive never been before and stumbled upon a very cliche shot so thought id join the club ;)

Nothing special very flat and no light, just some afterglow in the sky.

I'm also playing with the Fuji XT2 which is growing on me more and more.

This is 2 shots merged as the rock would have caused problems with a filter.

Heather is starting to show now so im going to try and get out a bit more for some more purple shots & light all being well.

Walking through the heather near Over Owler Tor.

Stunning conditions on Over Owler Tor last night.

A good few hours with dark cloud over Sheffield and clearer skies out West ending in a fantastic sunset.

An interesting mornings walk around Chee Dale. Wet, muddy and very slippery but good to get out and see new places.

Taken last Friday soon after arriving at Whinstone Lee Tor.

The light was already really good and I started taking photos as soon as I could get the camera set up.

I think the Tors are on Ben Avon (1171m or 3842ft) near Ben MacDui (4295ft) Cairngorms National Park.

One of the few tors we passed on our hike last Sunday. There was some interesting light conditions with thick clouds covering the landscape but some sunny patches peeking through.

Higger Tor seen from the Iron Age hillfort of Carl Wark in the Burbage Valley.

A moment of Peak District magic on the Great Ridge. Converting to black and white really helped the layers to stand out.
