Photographed a few years ago when it was being refurbished as a beauty salon, this building – along with No.9 - was Frost’s grocery stores during the early 20th-century. When the modern floor was lifted, several mosaic panels bearing the name ‘Frost’s Stores’ could be seen. Unfortunately they were covered in dust and it wasn’t possible to clean them. Hopefully they still survive under the new floor…

A supplier of materials for mosaics, the firm of Edgar Udny & Co had a warehouse in Tooting for many years before it closed down in 2012. The premises are now occupied by a timberyard.

This is a scanned 1990s photo showing 9 Upper Tooting Road, SW17 where an early 20th-century shop sign has been exposed during renovation works. The building was occupied by Frost’s, a large grocers shop, which also included the adjacent property at No.7.
