"Why do we always want the best? I had to get a toothbrush the other day. Before I left my house, I searched “best toothbrush.” It seemed like the sensible thing to do.

As I typed in the searchbox, the auto-fill completed the thought immediately. I wasn’t alone in my toothbrush purchase insecurity. A flurry of articles came up with conflicting opinions and, for a moment, I felt stupid.

Every toothbrush I bought on a hunch has been fine. I’ve never been disappointed in a toothbrush. Why waste my time trying to find the best? Have you ever run into someone with no teeth and asked, “What happened?”

And they replied, “Bought the wrong toothbrush. Should have done more research.” Then again, I do use a toothbrush quite a bit. If you can get the best, why not?

I mentioned the dilemma to a friend. She said her dentist had given her a great toothbrush called Timbul. She claimed it was “amazing” and it “changed the game.”

A game-changing toothbrush!

I went on Amazon and found it. There were 192 reviews.

First review. 5 stars. “Great brushes.” From a guy delightfully named, Skip Smiley.

Could I trust him? I clicked to see his other reviews.

I soon began to question Mr. Smiley’s integrity. Dude was giving 5 stars to everything:

A diving snorkel: “Love it.”

The book, I, Alex Cross: “Great book.”

An ink cartridge: “Just fine.”

“Just fine” but still five stars? Huh? More research had to be done.

But then I thought about Skip Smiley. Maybe he figured it out. Maybe you just make confident decisions and feel great about them. Did Skip fret about which diving snorkel to buy? Doubtful. Instead of stressing out about other options and possibilities, he was swimming with his snorkel, making the best of life.

I decided to buy the toothbrush. And you know what?

It’s a great toothbrush."

"Macro Mondays" and this week’s theme “Ready for the Day”

Macro Monday's and the theme of "Brush".

For this theme my first thoughts were a toothbrush, which I thought was too obvious at first, carbon brushes which would mean I would have to disassemble something with an electric motor such as our hoover and also two small brushes which I use to help clean my cameras just by brushing dust from the bodies.

One of these cleaning brushes was going to be my subject at first but after thinking about how I could put a slightly different spin on it (which I usually do) my thoughts wandered back to a toothbrush and I decided to see if I could record water being flicked from the brush while scraping my finger along the bristles.

Setting this up was quite simple and I taped a brand new toothbrush to a toolbox next to the kitchen sink and set my flash up right above it. With a black background in place I then filled a plastic beaker with water and poured some onto the toothbrush and tried some exposures. At 1/16th power the flash would keep up with the camera in continuous shooting mode for five or six exposures before dropping a frame or two.

Even at the 1/16th power with quite a quick flash duration there is some movement in the water that is being sprayed which shows just how fast it is moving.

Macro Mondays: Ready for the day

Like most people I start my day with brushing my tooth. And with this crystal clear water splashes it weakens you up and you can start your day in a fresh mood.

Backlit on a toothbrush for Macro Mondays.

"Ready for the Day" (Macro Mondays)

Time for a new toothbrush.

I think I may have missed the point here. Goes together like...…………...toothbrush and paste! Yes, it was a common saying in the Newton household when I was a child. "Goes together like toothbrush and paste" my Mum would say at bedtime as we ran around in our pyjamas...………...No, she didn't

Besides this is the latest hygiene product. Most people just rinse their brush and stand it in a mug. Very unhygienic. The latest thing is to store your used brush under these specially developed microbe killing blue and green lights to reduces gum and tongue diseases.

He loves brushing his teeth !

For this project, I chose to take a macro/close-up picture of the bristles on an electric toothbrush head. As I do not have an actual macro lens, I combined my Canon kit lens with +1, +2, +4 diopters and 10x macro filter stacked in addition to a 2.0 teleconverter. This setup allowed for the brush head to be less than an inch from the lens and gave me a very narrow depth of focus making the “in between” white bristles in focus and the outside blue bristles out of focus only a fraction of an inch farther away.

So I accidentally created a series call "Just a ..........". I always have shots left over from the different challenge I participate in, so i decided to go ahead and post them under the series. TGF. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

I was worried that I had cavities. I went to the dentist to find that the cause of my pain was not cavities, but gum recession. It turns out that the tooth brush I was using had sharp bristles that were cutting my gums.

New brush, gums have returned to healthy condition and no more pain.
