Pink Toothbrush is a short film that is based off of a randomly selected word and was shot over the course of 2 weeks. The word that was assigned to my group was ‘toothbrush’. Using this word we decided to visualise a descent into depression with me handling the cinematography and editing of the short film. My main goal with this film was to place the audience in the shoes of the protagonist by editing sharply on the beat of the contrapuntal music used. My intentions were for the music to start off (arguably) humorously in the beginning with shots such as the sink, which gets dirty to the beat of the song. However, as the film progresses, the lighting drifts into a colder tone and I intentionally aimed to make the audience feel uncomfortable as the editing slows at the climax where the protagonist cries for an unnerving span of time. This contrasts that of many of the other shots in an attempt to visualise an uncomfortable amount of grief for an everyday occurrence such as abandonment. I believe that this is my most well shot film.

I spotted this fella (Vapourer Moth Caterpillar - Orgyia antiqua) scaling a wall on our evening walk route! These caterpillars always amaze me - they are so wierd - I call them toothbrush caterpillars - I'll let you work out why! This one even has a gorgeous yellow fringe!

Alternative for Our Daily Challenge ... brand new.

My husband bought himself a pack of 6 toothbrushes recently. These are still brand new of course. If he changes his brush every 3 months as recommended they will last for 2 years.

I look at the shape of it and want to make a dress for it.

New and Improved! When you speak we listen. Thanks to all the feedback from you, we are proud to present our all new and improved Toothbrush Sanitizer.

It turns out that toothbrushes are some pretty serious breeding grounds for germs and other pathogens, even after they’ve been rinsed. That doesn’t really make you want to brush ever again, does it? That’s why DenTek has constructed the Toothbrush Sanitizer, which kills 99% of these germs in just 10 minutes. Made for most manual toothbrushes and power toothbrush heads, our sanitizer is fast, easy to use, and small enough to take with you anywhere.

If you forget your toothbrush in a co-op kitchen in the evening, you may find it's been pressed into service cleaning the stove the next morning...

Wrought iron spells out "Beauty Bar" and the discarded toothbrush adds a quirky touch. Valencia Street, Castro district, San Francisco, California.

Each discarded toothbrush head yields two rare-earth magnets...

For the catch of the watch.

Growing on some Nutrient Agar Media...yummy! I did this as an extra exercise because I volunteered for a project and was told to buy a new toothbrush (never eat or drink ANYTHING in the biology lab!). Well, turns out they didn't need me or my toothbrush for the exercise, so I made a slurry from my toothbrush swished in some distilled water in a sterile test tube and did my own experimental streak plate.

This is what grew. Most of what is here is bacteria that grows naturally in your mouth. It didn't stink...that was a good sign!

Got a new toothbrush, decided to dismantle the older one.

Since a friend of mine is borrowing my DSLR, I thought I'd experiment a little bit with my backup point & shoot, a Canon SD450. This is a shot of a toothbrush, the SD450 handheld in conjunction with an Olympus Zuiko (remember those?) 28mm lens, while an end table balanced a flashlight pointing at the toothbrush.

Continuing the everyday objects theme. This is one of my favorites from today. A toothbrush never looked so cool to me before ;-)

Taken w/Digital Zuiko 50mm F2 lens and a reversed 50mm Zuiko F1.8

Lighting is from a flashlight.

Image developed in Photoshop CS2, the RAW converter does a great job with Olympus E-1 files :-)

Comments and suggestions are appreciated!

inspired perhaps a bit by the sensorial explorer concept that advocates giving infants "real" objects to play with and realizing that it's never too early to start teaching the benefits of good oral hygiene, we decided to give odin a toothbrush to play with.

it's become one of his favorite toys. it's the perfect size for his little hands and while the bristled end is nice to tickle the gums, the soft rubber end is even better to sooth teething soreness.

and as a sneeky side benefit, he gets familiarized with something that he'll hopefully learn to use properly when the proper time comes.
