I did eventually manage to finish the printing frame. It works well, and is a nice addition to my toolset. I think I ought to see about replacing the felt on the hinged back, though, as the original stuff is pretty well shot.

Fujifilm X100 / Nik Collection

Taken in Shinkuku, Tokyo. Just a very quick tryout of Nik Analog Efex Pro. As usual, the standard presets give a very overprocessed look; the real strength seems to be in the toolset which allows you to make individual adjustments. In addition to the usual control points, there seem to be effect areas (similar to Lightroom adjustments).

All in all a great update, for the stunning price of $0.00

part of ongoing body of prints, mixed media, c-photo output and various vr experiements :

Series of Fine Art Edition Prints by Oli Goldsmith made in 2017.

Port Hope, ON - where Oli lives and works at present - is explored through unique photographic, VR and digitally manipulated perspectives blending and evoking inner and outer realms, time, space and place.

The works are grounded in photography. As a medium I have admittedly some bias against I surprise myself in being tugged by intuition in this direction.

As my practice has developed over time I let go the 'conscious control reigns' further trusting in the process.

Crucial to my workflow is play and discovery. New technology and growing up while computers were likewise helped their use become my companion and muse in this spirit of experimentation.

I see the approach this takes as akin to a sort of oracle. As if throwing down stalks or flipping coins with the i ching, tossing images into digital programs in unintended ways (what not designed for) becomes for me a pseudo-random game and wordless dialogue with self.

From that dance between letting go of control (in a somewhat controlled manner) come the perturbations in process that keep the whole play of art-making alive and emerging.

While true of my work in general this new series of photo-based yet highly manipulated images is an ideal example of this aspect bringing about aesthetic surprises in my art making - resulting in new inspiration and artwork.

The series of work is being shown both in an October exhibition (details to come) and online. It's focus emerges from photos taken in Port Hope - utilizing recent vr and panoramic toolsets, cameras 3d scanners etc. Extending inside (my messy Post Hope studio and abode) and blending the public outer and private inner aspects of my own experience living here become themes inherent in the artwork.

UXBASIS is a toolset of 24 different user experience methods that all individually or in conjunction with eachother will ensure a good user experience.

With UXBASIS there is no one-fits-all way of using the methods, but this diagram gives an example of what could be considered a standard projects user experience approach.

By answering basic questions about the product we can see which UXBASIS methods would be useful for the project in order to forfill the needs.

As the questions are answered and the various methods are used the project moves down through the diagram. Initially the methods used are the so called information gathering methods. These fit into the Business Intelligence and Analysis sections of UXBASIS. Then as the information gathered is used and the project moves further down we get to the methods within the Interaction and Structure sections of UXBASIS, and finally we finish off with the Sample section which covers the testing of the product.

For more information about UXBASIS go to www.uxbasis.hellogroup.com

I spent the day with Lucas (and his parents) and did two walks to get him to sleep for his naps - 4 miles in total. On the first walk, I visited a few charity shops, and got this splendid tool kit in a box, for £1.50. The batteries in the drill still work! Lucas had some fun with it - but wasn't too sure about the drill. We'll see what our little one in Bicester makes of it on Thursday :-)

This evening I was pretty tired, but finished off the CHEQS Magazine. I'll proof-read it tomorrow, when I'm a bit more awake!

This 11 shot pano encompasses about 270 degrees of view as you look across the hills. This is also the only corner I worry about in the woods, as if one makes a mistake here, there is plenty of time to think about the consequences.

Loud Objects (Tristan Perich and Kunal Gupta) at iMAL, november 16, 2010, beginning with a Noise Toy mini-workshop including Erg students, then for a performance-concert.

Loud Objects' performances start with punctuated silence as they begin to solder together microprocessors on an overhead projector, exploding into noise when the initial circuit is assembled and new chips are added and rewired. Their entire toolset consists of soldering irons, power and audio jacks, and a handful of Atmel microprocessors, pre-programmed in C via USB from a laptop using tuxgraphics' AVR programmer.

This may seem funny, but I've been prepping my emergency "go-bag" in case a tsunami/earthquake hits. This doubles as a camping kit anyway.

I live really close to the water so the risk is really high.

What's in the bag:

- 12 cans of sardines (can be opened with hand)

- 3 bottles of water

- 2 packs of cookies

- Small radio

- Headlamp

- Hand-cranked flashlight

- Swiss army knife (RAT RC-3 survival knife)

- Multi-toolset

- Spare cellphone with simcard

- Passport

- Whistle

- Duct tape

- Work gloves

- 60 feet nylon rope

- Compass

- Warm hat

- Water/Windproof jacket

- Water purification pills

- Easydry towel

- Firstaid kit

- Collapsible water bucket

- 2 large garbage bags

Outside of the bag:

- 1 person float (may replace w/ a lifejacket later)

- waterproof backpack

I still need a way to be able to start a fire, maybe I'll get firestone or waterproof matches..

The list I used for building the kit is here.

With many wedding theme images available, the web editor allows you to quickly and easily pull together wedding styles, colour schemes, décor details and look and feel via a convenient drag-and-drop function, using the rich editing toolset with over 30,000 product images from the library or your own images uploaded onto the system from your personal profile.

You can browse images by using two drop-down menu’s to refine your search and select between bridal gown styles, (princess, ball-gown, sheath etc), hair jewelry, dress fabric and accessories (veil, shoes, jewelry, bouquets), décor (table settings, placecards, favours) bridesmaid and groomsmen attire and wedding styles (modern, traditional, beach, outdoors)

This is not a track, rather it's an unforgiving "expert route." There have been quite a few fatalities recently. Give it a miss if the conditions are less than ideal or changeable.

Passing above Black Lake on the way up the Gertrude Saddle. It's difficult to capture the scale of this area, but it may help to view it large and locate the six people visible in this photo. The route up the saddle travels along the Gertrude valley on the left, then up a series of hike-able climbs (with the assistance of a few wire ropes), passing though avalanche debris and across smooth rock faces (could be nasty when wet) to eventually reach the saddle.

Late summer is the safest time to do this hike. Not being experienced in alpine hiking we waited for the middle of three clear days to attempt this one (if there's a chance of cloud coming in, you have to consider how you will find your way down again).

Someone has kindly entered a GPS track for the route at OSM:

"The American Conservation Experience (ACE) DHA program has provided me with the exciting opportunity to act as a Natural Resource Specialist (NRS) at the Bureau of Land Management Bakersfield Field Office. As an Oil and Gas NRS Intern, I have participated in a range of management practices within and outside of the oilfields.

Upon first arriving to the Bakersfield Field Office, I was no expert in the processes involved with overseeing oilfield operations. I’ve spent many hours reading documents, visiting pump sites (potential, interim and reclaimed), and interacting with a number of BLM staff and oil and gas operators. I’ve also fulfilled personal and professional goals of developing a stronger knowledge toolset of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process.

However, oilfields aren’t the only setting to aid in fulfilling BLM objectives! One of my favorite opportunities so far has been a Giant Kangaroo Rat trapping, which we were invited to participate in by biological consultants who work often with the BLM. Also, I’ve participated in events such as the annual Kern River Valley Pride Day and National Public Lands Day, where we collected trash and participated in restoration activities.

This internship will be one of lasting importance for me. I’m excited to continue my journey with the BLM, where I will develop a stronger understanding of fluid minerals operations and administer national environmental policies intended to sustain our socioeconomic and biologic needs!"

my 1944 BSA M20

This one came to me in 1988 pretty much as you see it. It was still in postwar Bronze Green paint, with the auction numbers still on it-the bike had been in storage for a number of years with about 5 other M20s in Canada. Original pannier bags and a full toolset came with the bike. I took it back to its wartime configuration, by taking off the postwar number plates. The '104' Royal Artillery formation sign was under a layer of paint, long with other markings, such as "Drive on the right" painted in big red letters on the top of the tank (I have the keycard-this machine was rebuilt in Germany in 1953 by REME)
