This is layerd and glued artboard laser cut to form around the tools. I designed it all in SketchUp.
Boyfriend made this cupboard in his van so his tools wouldn't fly all over the place while he's driving it. He finds solutions for everthing.
We put the cupboard in the van today and I felt so proud of him.
Knapping is the art of making stone tools using other stones, antlers or bone to chip away and form sharp edges for axes, knives and arrows. There is research to show that the same area of your brain used to make tools this way is also the same for speech. Scientists believe this process of tool making may have helped us evolve speech and communication skills. Many of which have been put to great use in the museum this project was shot in.
Its early days for the project but I am planning on making a book with these images and hopefully some others.

Grooming and forming
The two images of Tools for bonsai were made on the same batch of calotype papers and exposed one after the other in the same place, on top of the same old camera canvas box. However, the light conditions were changing with light on an overcast November afternoon getting weaker. Therefore, it may be the reason why this image appears different. It was printed from a much weaker calotype negative and consequently the contrast was lower than the first. Also the wooden handles absorb light while the metals handles reflect most of it. This called for a more contrasty preparation of salted paper here.
