X-E2 / SUMMARIT 50mm F1.5

Crapcam picture of a tool I noticed today.

My dad spends hours getting everything set up just right, arranging tools from smallest to biggest, oldest to youngest, all while keeping an eye on aesthetics.

Be part of the 1853 Turon Rebellion re-enactment and tremble through a weekend complete with cannons, floggings, shootings and duels, market stalls, exhibitions and more.

At any time bushrangers may stick you up for your gold (coin).

Gold was discovered on the banks of the Turon River at Sofala in 1851. In the first few months of the gold rush, miners complied with the law of the day, but those who were not striking it rich soon objected to paying the 30 shilling licence fee.

Throughout late 1851 and into 1852 there were hostilities in the booming settlement, with fierce words between miners and the government until things came to a head in 1853.

The rebellion includes a re-enactment of events of February 18 that year, when more than 1000 miners, heavily armed and singing Irish protest songs, marched on the banks of the river demanding rights for miners.

Image of old farmyard tools taken in an abandoned shed.

I liked the shot to begin with but liked it even better after the post processing. I did a little different processing on this one. I think it really shows the gritty texture and age of these. This was taken in my Dads workshop where he used to tinker around with various projects. These drawers were used to store all sorts of tools.

Pruning and bending

Overcast afternoon in November 2021. Salt print made in December.

The two images of Tools for bonsai were made on the same batch of calotype papers and exposed one after the other in the same place, on top of the same old camera canvas box. However, the light conditions were changing with light on an overcast November afternoon getting weaker. Therefore, it may be the reason why this image appears different from the other. It was printed from a well exposed calotype negative and consequently the contrast was higher than the second one. Also the wooden handles absorb light while the metals handles reflect most of it. This called for a more soft contrast preparation of salted paper here.

Shining the surface of the tools on a linisher to enable us to see the oxidation colours during tempering.
