Mob-handed groundstaff hard at work, repairing the Longmoor Lane wicket, during the tea interval of an ECB National Club Championship fourth round - last 16 - tie between hosts Sandiacre Town and Cavaliers & Carrington.
It was a keen contest between second place in the top division of the Derbyshire County Premier League (Sandiacre Town) and third place in the top division of the Nottinghamshire Cricket Board Premier League (Cavaliers & Carrington). Sandiacre won by 15 runs.
Given Cavaliers & Carrington found themselves 2-2 (both Scott McNeill catches) after two overs of their reply, the visitors did extremely well on a sultry afternoon to get as close as they did, posting 212 off 39.5 overs in reply to 227-8 off 40 overs.
Key was the dismissals, in quick succession, of Nayyar Abbas (47) and Shivsinh Thakor (47), who put on a patient 103 for the visitors' third wicket. Adam Tillock (62 off 50 balls) took up the fight after their departures but, when he went, Cavaliers & Carrington simply had too much to do and lacked the batters to do it. Tillock and Raheem Ahmed (13) added 44 for the sixth wicket. Daniel Wheeldon (2-32), John Jordison (2-38), impressive spinner Connor Marshall (2-39) and Matthew Newbold (2-52) shared the wickets.
Earlier, Sandiacre made a measured start. James Chapman (69) and Luke Thomas (28) figured in a first wicket partnership worth 79. Chapman and Jake Needham (44) put on 71 for the third wicket. The hosts fell away from that point, 151-3, although the stocky Wheeldon struck an aggressive 35 off 26 balls. He managed to shatter a bat! Mateen Teli (3-24) took three wickets in an eventful over. Usman Arshad had 2-43.

This is a box of washer that watch repairmen, like my Dad, use to balance a balance wheel in a watch.
If you have ever looked inside a mechanical watch, the balance wheel is the gear the moves back and forth and is part of what makes the ticking sound.
1914? Olds Type A 4.5hp Hit-and-Miss gasoline engine. Built by the Seager Engine Works in Lansing, Michigan.
A collection can't just stop at one. So I brought home another engine. And wow! What an awesome engine to have.
This one belonged to Grandfather for many years. Several years ago he passed it on to my Uncle Terry. And now the Olds has been passed down to me. I don't consider myself the owner of this engine as much as I am nearly the caretaker of a family heirloom until it's time to pass it on to the next in line.
Even though the brass nameplate is missing I've been able to glean a bit of info and history for this engine. This engine was originally used in a machine shop in Glenn Allen, Virginia to power the shop tools. Most likely belted up to a line shaft. Stamped on one of the flywheels by the shop is some information.

The engine has been in storage since 2009 when it was last run. Unlike my little Economy this engine will take a little more work to get up and running again but hopefully not to much. The battery box needs to be rebuilt as the wood is throughly rotted and the wood for the tongue hitch needs replaced as well. The engine was restored previously at some point and the pant on it and the cart is not too bad, only a few minor chips and some surface rust in a few areas. I plan to get it running first before deciding how deep to dig into any restoration.
Renovating minds
Takes time
to peel away
layers of unwanted experiences
years of decay and neglect
to strip it bare
back to the barren plaster
of empty thoughts
then slowly
polyfilla up the holes and dents
caused by wear and tear
of daily living
sanding
making it smooth
pure of faults
leaving it to settle and dry
Then as time passes
inevitably
it all begins again
the slopping on of paper and glue
covering it up
every little corner
plastered
with memories of life
Just when I'd finished a two year house renovation project- my mum gave me a present of a pink tool kit which she bought in Australia, took back to Scotland, then brought out to Brussels to give it to me and eventually it will end up back in Australia when I emmigrate next year!
Since I have finished rennovating- I am using them to practice taking photos
This was a prompt assigned to me by one of my students. I thought it would be the easiest one I would shoot. My father collects tools, finds tools on the side of the road, and inherits old tools. I thought this would be easy to shoot because of how easily accessible tools are. I toyed around with the idea of shooting tools themselves, to shooting a store that sells tools, or to shoot people using them. I had already shot my father working with tools, so I opted to go with shooting a tool. I went down to my dad's workshop to shoot. Its in a basement, the lighting is terrible and its cluttered because its my parents are pack rats. I decided to use this drill press as its a tool that I used growing up. Seeing brought back some memories of my dad and I working together. In order to get this shot, I had to angle my camera against an old dishcloth that was being supported by a 2 x 4. I used the self timer because if I tripped the shutter the camera would move from me pushing the shutter release button.
The Learning Studio hosted a workshop organized by Michael Swaine and Amy Franceschini, in which 12 local artists were invited to make tools that expand our natural perceptual limitations.

I took the plunge and bought a rolling mill. With the price of silver I wanted to recycle my scrap. So far so good, though it does take more time than I thought...mostly because I have to anneal so much. I am too impatient.

Sometimes I think the best part about building frames is I get new tools once in a while. Here's the new BB facer/tap and an old Italian alignment table. Tony Pereira has the same one but the lucky guy also has all the accessories.
I got the table from a local shop and it looks like the rest may have been tossed out.
