(Bentley press release) After 40,000 hours of work, Bentley Mulliner has today completed the first new Bentley Blower in 90 years, with the delivery of Car Zero – the prototype car for the Blower Continuation Series.
This highly exclusive run of 12 customer cars – all pre-sold - will be crafted from the design drawings and tooling jigs used for the original four Blowers built and raced by Sir Henry ‘Tim’ Birkin in the late 1920s. Specifically, Bentley’s own Team Car (Chassis HB 3403, engine SM 3902, registration UU 5872 - Team Car #2) has provided the master model for the Continuation Series, with every single component laser-scanned as part of a wheels-up, sympathetic restoration.
From this data, 1,846 individual parts have been designed and hand-crafted to create the new Blower. 230 of those parts are actually assemblies – one of which being the engine – taking the total part count to several thousand when fixings and interior trim parts are included. Each of these parts and assemblies have been created by a project team of Bentley Mulliner engineers, craftspeople and technicians working together with a number of British specialists and suppliers.
Blower Car Zero is a dedicated test and development prototype, built in advance of the 12 customer cars, and will be subjected to months of durability and performance testing. Finished in gloss black, with an interior in Oxblood red leather from Bridge of Weir, Car Zero made its debut today to officially mark the creation of the new Bentley Motors campus in Crewe. Made possible by the closing of Pyms Lane – Bentley’s address since 1946 – the campus extends Bentley’s headquarters to a new expanded footprint.
It felt good to straighten up and putter at Beth's Bicycle Braintrust today. (Homemade work bench, from scrap wood and old TriMet signs.)
The artist main weapons are the mind and the hand which produce the work.
Artists speak a universal language which is read mentaly & felt with the heart.
Artwork is invited within a person’s heart to tell a story.
I wonder what story should I tell next?
This is our home bike shop, if you are going to work on old bikes it is helpful to have old tools but it is even better to be old.
Made by Mr Porter, colliery blacksmith at Ince Moss Colliery, Wigan around the 1960's. The large lamp is a full size standard Protector Lamp.
The model ratchet device was a silvester, used to withdraw old props or bars during re-rips, the bar with a loop in it was a scotch. This was jammed into the wheels of tubs as they passed by to stop them, the loop stopped you putting your hand in as well!
Take special note of all the clamps on the wall behind the bandsaw. He who dies with the most clamps wins! I didn't bother trying to label all the tools on the wall, that would be ridiculous, try to name them all if you wish, and you can win, err, something.
Motivation for me to get all my tools out of the piles on my workbench & floor and into a place where I can actually access them.
The Mazzou castable refractory cement makes a nice lining for the forge. It's pretty solid and certianly holds up better than the Kaowool alone.

A surprising amount of equipment and consumables are required for what is essentially a straight forward job.
This time I've chosen Wilko semi-synthetic oil in the recommended grade of 10W-40 and a MANN filter.
Prescribed fire is one of many tools used at Malheur National Wildlife Refuge to manage wildlife habitat. It is used in areas where haying and grazing are not feasible to remove decadent vegetation. Vegetation recovery provides enhanced foraging opportunities for insects, high protein grass and improved nesting conditions. Photo credit: Carla Burnside, USFWS.
Found in a discarded bucket of "guy stuff." Strikes me like it may be a special purpose wheel or gear puller, but I'm not sure.
I know . . . more hammers and saws. I promise that these are the last of my retirement cookies celebrating Hubby's 42 years with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. I thought tools with faces would be more fun for the grandkids! carrollscookies.blogspot.com

Home to 23 different ethnic / linguistics populations, São Gabriel da Cachoeira is a geographically complex municipality located in the State of Amazonas in the North Region of Brazil and has reported among the highest incidence of malaria cases in the country. In 2018, a malaria outbreak was declared as cases reached more than 15,000. Through strong collaboration with various partners such as the Army and integration of efforts into the Primary Health Care system, key malaria interventions such as early diagnosis and treatment, vector control, and real time case mapping have been effectively carried out resulting to an approximate decrease of 50% in cases in 2019. This malaria champion demonstrates that the appropriate implementation of current malaria tools and interventions, leveraging on key partnerships and optimizing the reach of Primary Health can successfully reverse the increasing incidence of the disease in complex environments and strongly position communities towards subsequently eliminating malaria.
