Getting close to becoming a daguerreian

Tom (Spanky) has a lot of style when it comes to skateboarding.. here he manages to air across the two ramps with ease.

From a bus called Tom to a bus called... oh, wait, I already did this. Seen on the very same day as the ex-Grimsby Trident is a former Nottingham Omnidekka bearing the same name. I was so pleased to see both that I ended up with a few alternative frames to the ones I chose to upload at the time, hence them reappearing for this upload.

A photo I’m particularly pleased with of LC07 TOM (YN07 EYZ) shows it at Broadgate, Lincoln, crossing the river bridge with the cathedral in the background. It was heading down to the bus station on 12.6.24 to work the once-a-month 44 back to Swineshead. After months of the same few Omnicities and Geminis coming round on the 33/44s, FINALLY I got the ex-NCT vehicle I was looking for.

This was a former local of mine, being new to NCT’s orange line 36 in 2007 as number 761. It later became a spare bus with an all-over advert for driver recruitment, before being sold when NCT were dumping off N94UDs en masse. 761 disappeared off the radar for a few years before surfacing at Sleafordian, and painted in their livery.

I had a photoshoot with this character with some of the people from my camera club. This is Tom, who is an artist and yoga teacher who works from a hut at the back of the Kings Arms pub in Seaton Sluice, North Tyneside.

A massage, a movie, and a fancy dinner.

We seen Batman.

He was standing by his electric bike on Princess St. in downtown Kingston. His potential as a portrait subject for my Human Family project was immediately apparent. My wife went into the nearby pharmacy to browse while I approached him. I introduced myself and explained the project. he immediately agreed and was also willing to take a few steps at my request to avoid the harsh early-summer sun. Meet Tom.

I learned that Tom is 62 and came to Ontario from his native Newfoundland in 2019. What prompted his move? "I guess I was just ready for a change." He is happy with the move.

Tom told me that he is Micmac and he sounded proud of his indigenous blood. He also told me he is a wildlife artist and proceeded to show me photos of very skilled and detailed pen and ink drawings. One was of an eagle, another was of a wolf. He does not have a website or an email address and said he just sells if someone knows his work and wants to buy. Meeting Tom caused me to reflect on how many talented people there are in the world who we never know about.

Just then, a friend of Tom's came by and greeted him. Tom said "Just Give me a minute" and his friend stood by patiently. This was my cue to wrap things up.

Tom's message to the world: "Take some time to meet the people around you. If you don't, you could be missing out on a new friendship."

I offered to send him a copy of his portrait. He thanked me but said he doesn't use email.

We exchanged a friendly handshake and I thanked him for joining my project. Tom is my 890th submission to the Human Family Group.

Inspired by Jeff Morgan's " The Cat & the Rat".

Two years ago, I saw a picture that impressed me a lot, since then, the picture could not get out of my head, but it took some time until all the parts joined together.

I wanted to copy this work for reasons of curiosity and passion.

This is Tom. "I used to be somebody too", he said once!

A long term resident of Palo Alto California. This is the first I've seen him smile in fourteen years. You often see him downtown sitting or slowly teetering around. If he asked you for spare change or a cup of coffee, feel privileged. He is still proud and scrupulous in whom he asks for help.

This is my father in law Tom Auld in Lisbon, we are there now. What an amazing city. Feel like I fell off the earth getting ready for this trip, but there it is.

M T Liggett gives us plenty to ponder in this one. Tom Sheriff gets a whirligig and a rifle, Ted Kennedy gets the Jackson Pollock paint treatment, while Ixion and Agape are relatively 'plain.' There is little to gauge size but I'd guess the Kennedy is 12' (4 meters) or more.
