I wanted to repost this, because it is one of my personal favorites and it was posted right after I opened my flickr, these are cherry blossoms shot marco, I wanted to do it this way so the blossoms in the background were fully burred to only add color :) a soft focus filter was also used

Winecup, Callirhoe involucrata (Malvaceae) still in bloom in the TWU Butterfly Garden. Theoretically, the blooming season lasts until June, but these plants have continuously bloomed until now, and probably will do that until the first freeze of the season.

Trailing Winecup grows to about one foot high and has sprawling stems that can grow as long as three feet. It may go dormant in the hottest part of the summer, which these plants did, but returns to overwinter as a rosette with attractive dark green lobed leaves. The flowers are 2 inch reddish-purple (magenta) cups. They have 5 petals surrounding a fused column of stamens.
