This is a common weekend breakfast at our home. Poached egg on bacon avocado toast with lemon pepper. Very tasty and hard to beat.
(Full disclosure: I accidentally over-cooked this egg, normally the yoke is runny… but it was still tasty!)

With our drought, some of the prairie grass got toasted as you can see here. Some of the other prairie plants are deeply rooted and drought resistant, so I am still hopefull for our normal September goldenrod and sunflower show.
"My friend I wish health to you,
I also wish wealth to you;
I wish the best that life can give to you,
And may dreams always come true to you.
May fortune be kind to you,
And happiness be true to you;
And love be so sweet to you
And life be long and good to you."

May the Fork Be With You!

Theme: On Forks
I made some wine this fall, and I'm at the point of deciding whether to oak the wines. The wood in wine barrels is cured over a fire, and this changes the wine chemistry somewhat, and imparts a subtle flavor to the wine. You can buy barrels made from French or American oak, and with light, medium and heavy "toast". I don't have enough wine for a barrel, but I'll probably put some medium toast American oak in my cabernet sauvignon and light toast French oak in my white wine made from the Brianna grape. This isn't at all how oak is toasted/cured for winemaking, but it's on my brain this week, so I couldn't escape the metaphor.
This year has been very grey and dark and it has been hard to drum up the enthusiasm for photography. So a kick up the back end and a little playing. A toast to light, and hoping for more of it next year. (Nothing original but something to get back in practice at light hunting!)
I took this shot of a leaf several months ago while hiking and I found its color to be very striking. Couldn't pass up on the opportunity.
Some builders are bred for greatness, and others are just bread to be toasted. It's a Wonder some have even made it this far...
………Lip smacking, Nose twitching Toasted Spelt bread - a little well done especially for the photo shoot (honest), I have this for tea every day along with homemade vegetable soup. Always smells delicious so perfect for Macro Monday’s theme of “Smell” and looking deliciously like the two pieces are kissing! HMM, Alan:-)…….

Toasting the toaster, warm bread, delicious, especially on a day with icy cold rain showers like today.
