Haven't been active at all here in a while, so here's a desert shot from last winter — The Toadstools area of the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument in southern Utah.

Considering how infrequently I've been out with my camera, I thought I'd take a drive later this week to Arches. My birthday is falling around then, so I thought it would be a nice treat to myself. Woo.

Ello, traveler! Welcome to the magical emporium, Toadstool! Here you will find all the supplies you need to continue your journey, including the most powerful spells, dapper outfits, and potent potions.

Just a bit of color on the horizon and some lovely sidelighting on the hoodoo made the morning for me. That, and finding our way in total darkness with the help of a topo GPS.

I found this beauty in a field last autumn and had to take a picture of it!

I esp like the hula hoop!!

Holy Hoodoos! This spot is well known and often photographed but somehow myself and my wife had it to ourselves for about an hour! In fact, the only place we had to fight the crowds the entire trip was at Horseshoe Bend.

I found this cake difficult to cover with the fondant.

I had a few bumps on the side...not a neat job at all.

Covered most of my untidy work with the flowers.

My 8 yr old son Muhammad took it to school yesterday.

It was a quite a hit with the teachers and children.

I was hoping to get a photo of a magical creature but...

After 5 days on the road in Wyoming, South Dakota and Nebraska I finally found clear skies on Tuesday morning and was able to capture this panoramic view of the milky way at Toadstools in NW Nebraska. It was bitter cold and by the time the sun rose my gear was completely covered in frost, well worth the effort.

Not sure what these are - if I find out I'll change the title. Autumn here seems a strange mix of green leaves and bare trees following some windy and warm weather.

The Rimrock Hoodoos with the iconic Toadstool is a very small, easy accessible spot in the otherwise huge Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. Situated along Highway 89b between Page, AZ and Kanab, UT is a small parking lot and with a 10 minute walk you will be surrounded by a multitude of various hoodoos.
