It was very difficult to spot this tiny little toad in the dirt on the ground as it is was only about 2cm long and blended in so well with its surroundings.

Thank you for visiting my site and taking the time to leave a comment. Truly appreciated!

This fat little toad had absolutely no fear. I really got this close to him.

This little fella lives under a log in the garden so I encouraged him to come out for a photo shoot :) He didnt stay long but enough for me to get a shot!

I found this guy digging himself out of the ground a few days ago—readying himself for spring and hopefully... preparing to feast on a steady diet of mosquitos over the summer.

There were quite a few baby frogs and toads hopping around Titchwell and some, including this toad were living quite dangerously, hopping across the main path

Neighbor Toad posing for a photo somewhat reluctantly but let me have several shots before hopping away. He was probably hatched in a pond that's in the yard. A toad is actually a frog and no distinction is made in taxonomy although they spend less time in water than frogs do. They eat insects and are good to have in the garden.

This image focuses on the female Natterjack Toad's eye. View as large as possible, so that you can appreciate how gorgeous it actually is!

As I was shooting a spring peeper, I could hear this toad making its way down from the higher ground, heading toward the water. It ended up right next to where I was kneeling, momentarily hindered by a birch log.

A dull overcast with rain today, did spot this baby toad about one inch or just over, very pretty orange colouration ive not seen before

Baby toads were everywhere, but finding two that would sit still long enough for me to get a few shots proved rather difficult.

(Spea hammondii) Found road cruising.

Another toad from the canal towpath. This one looks rather worried by the camera that I had plonked down close to it.

Whilst walking around Talybont Reservoir we saw hundreds of dead frog’s skins near the bank, probably eaten by the numerous herons we saw, it couldn’t have done much harm to the population as there was also loads of frogspawn. After seeing so many dead skins it was really nice to see a lovely handsome toad having a leisurely stroll along the path.

The common toad, European toad or in Anglophone parts of Europe, simply the toad (Bufo bufo, from Latin bufo "toad"), is an amphibian found throughout most of Europe (with the exception of Ireland, Iceland, and some Mediterranean islands), in the western part of North Asia, and in a small portion of Northwest Africa. It is one of a group of closely related animals that are descended from a common ancestral line of toads and which form a species complex. The toad is an inconspicuous animal as it usually lies hidden during the day. It becomes active at dusk and spends the night hunting for the invertebrates on which it feeds. It moves with a slow ungainly walk or short jumps and has greyish brown skin covered with wart-like lumps.

Although usually a solitary animal, in the breeding season large numbers of toads converge on certain breeding ponds, where the males compete to mate with the females. Eggs are laid in gelatinous strings in the water and later hatch out into tadpoles. After several months of growth and development, these sprout limbs and undergo metamorphosis into tiny toads. The juveniles emerge from the water and remain largely terrestrial for the rest of their lives.

The common toad seems to be in decline in part of its range but overall is listed as being of "Least Concern" in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. It is threatened by habitat loss, especially by drainage of its breeding sites, and some toads get killed on the roads as they make their annual migrations. It has long been associated in popular culture and literature with witchcraft.

As I was laying on the ground photographing this guy, a big fly crawled along the rocks in front of him, and then, bam, it was gone. Lunch.

Last week I found this 3cm small toad in the garden.

A little bit of rain and the toads were out in full force tonight. If they liked what they saw today, they'll love tomorrow. We're about to get a heavy dose of it for the next couple of days.

Brown Slender Toad (Ansonia leptopus) - Danum Valley, Malaysia

Borneo is a biodiversity hotspot and among the myriad of species, the diversity of slender toads (Ansonia) is also quite high there with over 10 species. Some of these species are difficult to identify, i had some trouble with this individual but believe it is A. leptopus. These toads are typically found along forest streams, as was the case with this individual.

You can't help some people. This 'un didn't appreciate a helping hand across the road!

Cane toad (Rhinella marina) - Buenaventura Reserve, Ecuador

The ubiquitous and infamous cane toad, I have found these toads in every central american country I have visited as well as in some areas they didn't belong in (Hawaii and Florida). I didn't see them during my earlier stay in Ecuador but that was due to staying at high altitudes during that visit. These toads can be found in both disturbed and pristine habitat sometimes even at greater densities in disturbed habitat. However this large individual was found in a river surrounded by high quality forest. I believe this one was a male as I had heard some calls from the general area, however I chose not to disturb this individual and examine him/her to determine the gender.

‘TOAD SMILE.’

I’m pretty sure this was a female Toad judging by size and very round belly! She looked full of spawn and had, in Toad terms, rather a happy face. Perhaps she was pleased she hadn’t been saddled with a male for the journey to a traditional breeding site.
