I didn't even see the bird when I took the picture. That probably disqualifies it as being a "decisive moment". [2008_05_02-1001967]

Had a play the other day with a Box Brownie and some 120 Film.
Decided to develop it using old developing solutions, so i'm honestly surprised I even have these to show.
Everything you see is guess work, as the shutter is completely manual no fancy buttons or shutter speed dials. So I cannot tell you what shutters speeds I used but i'm guessing it was around 1/15s due to the car being blurred.
I know I was using an f stop of around f/22.
These are just the scanned in negatives then inverted and contrast changed.
I haven't bothered getting rid of marks/scratches as they add to the effect I think.
Out of the right-side of the frame of the pic, is a big wheel that turns a shaft, at the end of which is the 'lil worm-gear below the big wheel shown. Turning the wheel changes the timing of the valves. I still don't fully "get" steam engines, but they're kinda like 2-strokes in that they have 2 cycles and a transfer-port kinda thingy that pushes steam into the cylinder at the top and the bottom of the piston's cycle. The amount of steam let into either the top or the bottom affects torque vs. speed. Then the crank outputs directly to the propeller shaft (I think...). Dead-assed simple & super neat-o. No steampunk bs, just big, greasy, hot power. :)

The belt in front has also teeth but is different to the second. To slip through is not so terrible.
The timing belt behind must necessarily remain in the intended position. From there also the teeth on the camshaft drive & crankshaft drive. Serious engine damage are possible if this belt is broken.
50 years ago, I was apprentice, as the car brand "GLAS" introduced the timing belt. I was excited. It died down later.
