Taken maybe two minutes after Dawn Fishing; it's often windy here, the sun and the moving clouds were constantly fighting each other and benefited me! :-)

(Since Feb 17, all times are estimated as my X-T20 can no longer record the timestamp.)

Thanks for visiting and I wish you a pleasant day!

outside ER, after an early morning visit - Shand's Hospital

Jacksonville, FL

The timestamp of this image is 20.21 (timed rather coincidentally it must be said) and the last embers of evening light were burning before the sun vanished behind a thick bank of haze coming in on the horizon line.

The subject is 67023 "Stella" and 67027 "Charlotte" as they pull away from one of their last journey stopoffs, at Heywood Road Junction. The working was the 1Z22 08.20 Tyseley-Bristol High Level Sidings test train, which had during the course of its long trip visited several locations, including the Cotswold line, Weymouth and Bath and Bristol.

"Mirage Gstaad" by Doug Aitken

In the tradition of land-art as a reflection of the dreams and aspirations projected onto the American West, "Mirage Gstaad" presents a continually changing encounter in which subject and object, inside and outside are in constant flux. With every available surface clad in mirror, it both absorbs and reflects the landscape around in such ways that the exterior will seemingly disappear just as the interior draws the viewer into a never-ending kaleidoscope of light and reflection. As "Mirage Gstaad" pulls the landscape in and reflects it back out, this classic one-story suburban house becomes a framing device, a perceptual echo-chamber endlessly bouncing between the dream of nature as pure uninhabited state and the pursuit of its conquest. Situated against the backdrop of Videmanette in Gstaad, "Mirage Gstaad" will bring the idea of the Manifest Destiny and the American West into contact with the European landscape and the tradition of the sublime.

By the way:

Precautionary environmental and wild-life measures.

The installation "Mirage Gstaad" received approval from Vogelwarte Sempach (Swiss Bird Protection Society).

In order to counter the distraction from the reflective surfaces for migrating and breeding birds, horizontal black

lines every 3 cm (~ 1 inch) were installed on the facade. The structure was also verified via 3-D model for no interference with sunlight reflection during the year for neighbours and air traffic. The work has been installed on agricultural land (strictly

no-building zone) for a limited period of time with the permission from the commune

Shot with an 18-55mm kit lens on Nikon D300s. To achieve the magnification seen here for this tiny subject (Twizzler made to hold an overhand knot), 20mm extension tube was attached between the lens and the camera. A red tee-shirt hung couple feet behind the subject provided the background. The colors/tones enhanced in Lightroom, then cropped and saved as JPG file in Photoshop.

An off-camera flash was used to light this subject. The flash was triggered by on-camera flash in commander mode.

Unfortunately, the timestamp on my old camera wasn’t checked (and set properly) before shooting this image around 1 pm PST on Jan 21, 2019. My apologies.

At ”We’re Here!” today all the Hereios must answer the question, ”What are you Drinking?”

This being the traditional - and much dreaded - Tax Day in the USA, it was suggested that many of us might require a bracing restorative. Actually, because today is Sunday, and Monday is a holiday in Washington D.C. (Emancipation Day), taxes are due today, but postmarks and timestamps are not required until Tuesday. I myself was up last night until the wee hours of this morning consulting the IRS website. This was not because I waited until the last minute to file my tax return -- no, it was because my Grandson did. Sigh. But, we got it all figured out.

And, I am finding a nice bit of Bengal Spice Herbal Tea and toast to be both soothing and revivifying today.

Bell tower of Altgraun at Reschen Lake.

Since 1922 fascism raged in Italy and thus also in South Tyrol. In 1939, the Montecatini Group submitted a project to dam Lake Resia and Lake Graun by 22 metres in order to generate energy for its operations. The population of Reschen and Graun was completely ignored. The outbreak of the Second World War, however, delayed the construction project that had already begun. The inhabitants of the Upper Vinschgau believed to be rid of this spectre forever. But to the dismay of the inhabitants concerned, in 1947, only two years after the end of the war, Montecatini announced that work on the dam project would be resumed immediately.

In the summer of 1950 the time had come. The locks were closed and the ReschenSee dammed. 677 hectares of land were flooded. Only the church tower still rises out of the water. Almost 150 families were robbed of their existence, and half of them were forced to emigrate. The compensation was very modest. The inhabitants of Graun were then housed in a makeshift barracks camp. Hundreds of families from Graun and Reschen lost their existence through the fascist congestion project.

Today the tower in the Lake Reschen is a listed building and is the landmark of the municipality of Graun and a magnet for the public.

(Wiki)

Bern – Kirchenfeld Bridge

=> Wiki, Deutsch

The bridge was built by the engineers Moritz Probst and Jules Röthlisberger of the metal construction company Gottlieb Ott & Cie. Designed in Bern as a hingeless arch bridge in a riveted welded iron construction, built in 21 months and inaugurated on 24 September 1883.

It was the third bridge of this type in Switzerland. Previously, the Javroz Bridge at Charmey and the Black Water Bridge between Bern and Schwarzenburg were built in the same design.

Because of the financing by the English development company, the bridge was known by the vernacular until the end of the 19th century as the "English Bridge".

This is a creation of mine, merging 4 different 4 second exposures taken from a tripod to "paint" the scene with lightning strikes.

Some, I'm sure, call this "cheating" but I don't care. It was a fun project and I figure as long as I am up front about what it is...people can either take it or leave it.

In the future, I'd love to get the opportunity to get this much lightning in a single opening of the shutter, though!

Oh, details...

Multiple Lightning strikes during a steady rain as another weather cell passes through the Midwest. This is looking South on the UP Springfield Sub at a location known as Wann in East Alton, IL as dusk rolls in on June 25, 2015.

Image is a composite of 4 exposures taken: 7:14:30pm, 7:16:12pm, 7:19:48pm, 7:19:59pm according to the timestamp on my camera, which is not set to the millisecond based on an atomic or satellite clock. But, this gives a good ballpark of time as well as the timespan between the images.

Hey guys, I wanted to share the various ways of doing green screen/chromakeying that i’ve learnt over the years of using photoshop.

This video will cover what this process is, 4 methods of doing so and finally how to refine the final selection.

There’s timestamps as well, just in case you’re only interested in any one of the methods!
