Hanging out at Poker Flat last night, I learned the spare 180º field-of-view fisheye lenses (used for the allsky cameras) are nikon mount... So of course I put one on my camera and shot a timelapse.
Normally (i.e. for science purposes) you would point a lens like this straight up so you can see the entire sky. Here I decided to tilt it down a bit, which lost the southern horizon in favor of seeing a bit more ground. Now I'm not sure that was such a good idea, it didn't really add much to the shot.
This is just over 3 hours of real time. The lights on the ground are the TV crew from NHK filming a show about auroras (same cameramen that were with me on the sprites flights this summer!) They give you a good sense of how much the video is sped up, and consequently how fast the aurora is changing. There was a light dusting of snow at one point, and you can see the flakes on the lens near the end.

My first attempt at a sunset "Timelapse" movie. This was taken using a Nikon D500 for the actual sunset and a D850 for the windmill. Assembled in Adobe Lightroom and Final Cut

This is a screen grab from a timelapse i released today
When I started timelapse photography a year ago I thought it would be something I could just jump right into and master, as I've been taking stills for nearly a decade now. But I was quickly humbled by the medium as I struggled to put together worthwhile footage after repeated early attempts. This, I realized, was a whole other animal.
Over and above all the technical challenges — motion control gear, constantly changing light, aperture flicker — shooting a timelapse forces you to look inside: after setting up your shot, there’s often not much you can do for hours, but sit up there and ponder while the camera does it's thing. The relationship between the cold glass, steel and concrete below coupled with the often majestic clouds, sky and sun/moon never ceases to be a source of wonder. And so the purpose of what you’re doing becomes a frequent question in your mind.
With City Rising I wanted to bring others up to this perspective, and from here, show them the city as they have never seen it before — where the boundary between earth and sky is unclear and the placid beauty of the city lays spread out below, quietly humming along. City Rising takes the viewer straight through rush hour traffic to the highest urban peaks and the clouds above it all, all in under four minutes.
During this period of Corona Virus lockdown in 2020, photography opportunities are limited.
I thought I would have a go at Timelapse photography, shooting this video from my back garden.
Details of how I created it below
1. Camera Settings
Manual mode, ISO100, F/5 Aperture, 1/4 sec shutter speed
16x9 ratio in-camera crop
Lee Little stopper filter (6 stops)
Lee 0.6 ND grad filter (for the sky)
2. Interval timer set on the Fuji X-T2 camera, shooting every 4 seconds for 999 images
3. All images processed in Lightroom, and exported to an MP4 video file in the Slideshow module

One of the problems with shooting at f/22 is the amount of cack that is revealed on the sensor. I spotted many of the worst offenders away, but the sky was nice and dramatic for an 0.8s exposure.

One of my last years projects: capture at least one image each month at the same location with same composition. The month of April is missing due to corona lockdown. This is a time lapse video somewhere along the Dender canal in Pollare (Ninove) Belgium.
One of my first tries at getting a good timelapse capture. Shot with a Fairphone on the Lapse It Pro app and a makeshift tripod.
Watch the Timelapse video with Vilvadi's music in my youtube channel! It's not spam, original 4K video is 400MB, You know it takes a lot of time to upload it in Flickr. So, I've just provided the link.
