A bit of an unusual composition... This is full frame and I wanted to include the reflection in the frame. Love these moments of still water between tides movement.

I will not be posting over the next while, I need some time off.... to reflect.....among other things... Thank you so much for the visits and comments and support. They are very much appreciated.

Time to reflect - At long last, a visit to the Lake District for dawn this morning and a fitting time to reflect at Blea Tarn over the crazy few months we've all experienced. I've been longing for this moment since March when lockdown was first announced and have long wondered when this time would eventually come.

I was rewarded with complete stillness and tranquillity at this real gem of location, a favourite of mine, where everything just comes together with the first light hitting the Langdale Pikes framed perfectly by the slopes of Pike o' Blisco and Side Pike.

It was great to be out on a 'Dawn Raid' this morning, to taste the fresh dawn air, see the sun rise up on the fabulous Cumbrian Mountains and to have some real peace and tranquillity as faint wisps of mist drifted over the tarn; well needed tonic for the soul.

Taken from the beach on the shores of Lake Wakatipu at Queenstown (right by the town centre), South Island, New Zealand.

Queenstown is a lovely resort town with stunning natural beauty, and particularly popular among the young travellers for its adventure and skiing tourism. It was an amazing and relaxing experience just sitting on the beach and watching the changing colors of the sky at sunset...with the sounds of the waves and the whispers of the breezes in the backdrop. It is perhaps a good time to reflect...

It was a wonderful Christmas Day. Time to count my blessings.

For the "picture this" project where the title was provided.

The mirror panels here in this room allow us to see a range of Reko Rennie's artworks. This also includes sculpture and neon light installations.

I will give you a few links to some truly beautiful multimedia works that are Rennie's creation. One of these involved the lighting of the Sydney Opera House during the 2016 Vivid Festival. rekorennie.com/work/vivid-festival-2016/

A great spot to think about things!

I tend to seize on insignificant time markers this time of year. Anything at all to indicate we are beginning the annual ascent from the depth of winter. Super Bowl is one of them. Also the appearance of car and boat shows, as well as home and garden expos. I saw a large display of vegetable and flower seeds the other day at the hardware store. The little packets all lined up in neat rows, ready for planting. Sure signs that spring is on the way. Groundhog Day is one of the more symbolic harbingers of spring. The actual prediction is rather meaningless. After all it's early February and there's still more winter ahead here in Ohio. Still there's some degree of comfort in knowing Groundhog Day has passed. The realization that the darkest part of another winter has been survived is comforting. Of course it's tempered a bit with the apprehension that with winter, another year of precious life has passed. But dark thoughts like that are much easier to shrug off in the face of gaining daylight. Groundhog Day this year coincided with a warm spell. More importantly it brought a break in the incessant cloud cover that was locked in over us for going on two consecutive weeks. It had become oppressive even to me. Sunday morning saw the sun revealed in a few occasional flickers of brilliance as the clouds began to thin out. Then suddenly it was revealed full on, the dreary winter landscape bathed in warming sunlight. Residual snow began melting and fast. I was delighted that this sunny interlude coincided with down time so that I could fully appreciate it. Evening saw the clouds beginning to roll back in, but not before a color saturated sunset. I spent the dusk hour outdoors watching night descend around me. There was still the sense of suddenness as daylight faded, but not nearly as extreme as it was back in November and December. The sensation was positively uplifting after weeks spent largely indoors. I captured this image of the deepening sly reflecting off of the inky blackness of a small woodland pond.

Silence spreads like a wordless prayer. The lake breathes slowly, as time dissolves along the line where water meets sky. Nothing asks for haste.

There is an invisible dialogue between she and the horizon – a conversation that needs no sound, only presence. The tree, stripped of its leaves, understands. It bends with the wind but stands tall, holding secrets that winter cannot erase.

The bench is not just a place to rest but a space where thoughts drift lightly, dancing between what is and what once was. Solitude, here, does not weigh heavy. It spreads like light over the water, turning every absence into a poem.

At the lake’s edge, what feels missing becomes whole.

***

Day 46/365: 2015

For the weekly theme - reflections

I've stuck with low key here as I've really enjoyed doing it and by the time I got round to taking this (yes, 6.15) there was no natural light anyway.

The man is a popular attraction, a bronze statue of a fisherman leaning on a railing gazing out to sea across Luce Bay. The statue was created by Andrew Brown from Stranraer, an award winning sculptor. beside the statue is an inscription "What is life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare". On this evening with a developing sunset it was certainly time to stop and look.

In an earlier post this week, I talked about the "unplanned" adventures that we treasure so much in Alaska. That one featured kayaking amongst the glacier and ice formations and caves. I spoke of this one briefly, but I thought that I would share a bit more of the experience through a representative image.

Always having the "bug" in us to experience something new each trip, in 2014 we decided that we wanted to try to cross the Denali Highway for our first time. Now when I say highway ... that conjures up images of 65mph and Exit signs every now and then. Nope, not this "highway", this is, after all, Alaska. This one was nothing but sheer ruggedness ... mostly unpaved, gravel road ... sure potholed in places, but with views that literally took my breath away. Now when traveling east-west (or vice versa) in southern Alaska, the Glenn Highway (a real paved road) has always been our "go to" road and is spectacular as well, but you run across commercialism, more vehicular traffic, the sights already seen by many. The Denali Highway is the proverbial "road less traveled".

For us, we started out our trip across the infamous road in Paxson and were immediately treated with an amazing display of the aurora borealis. Now that is very weather and solar flare dependent, but the darkness of the seclusion around us, made it that much more so intense and rewarding. Just us, the northern lights, and memories of 7 years before ... the day we first saw the lights ... exactly, to the day. The skies were clear with only those beautiful amazing wispy clouds stretched across the sky. Every mile along the 124 mi road was more amazing than the next. Wildlife was at a minimum, as unfortunately it was hunting season. It was just fabulous landscapes and the newness of the adventure.

Things change rather quickly in Alaska and by the time we got 3/4 of the way across, those beautiful blue skies turned gray and rainy. When we got across and ventured into Denali NP, that rain turned into snowfall and we were treated again!

So, as we prepare (5 days left to go) for Alaska, I'm quite anxious for more of what I have grown to love about Alaska - it's spirit of adventure!

Thanks for stopping by to view and especially for sharing your thoughts and comments too.

I went back to the same spot again the day after hoping for better conditions and I think I found them. I think this place still offers a more beautiful sunset so I'll be back again.

The lovely weather continued. Cooler but warm enough in the autumn sunshine. Nice enough to sit outside at the Bay Hotel and enjoy a couple of pints too.

. Christmas is a good time to find a quiet moment to reflect on all the good things that have happened to us and to express our gratitude.

Thanks for your visits and stay blessed:)

With another year drawing to a close it is time to reflect on the past year.

One of my highlights of 2014 was having the opportunity to watch and photograph this beautiful wild male Sparrowhawk ( Accipiter nisus ).

Thanks again to Alan, as it is all his hard work and commitment that made such a memorable day possible.

Nature at it's best.

I would like to wish everyone all the very best for 2015.

I don't take very many photos of myself. Never have, doubtful I ever will. However. I felt like this was cause to do so. The pic is close to what I want.

I thought this was really nice. It was at the historic Lakeville Cemetery. I took this a few years back in the fall and it just struck me as so peaceful and a nice place to remember.
