It's a WIP. I feel that it needs some length behind the rear wheels. Not much, maybe a plate or so. It's also a try to build it out of silver bricks without cheating, but there is just 1x1 plate, 2x2 cornerplate, 1x6 tile and a 2x2 tile avaliable, so it's a tough challenge, especially because I'm still not really sold on that color, and feel like light gray could be better. We'll see.

The Magic Mountain Time Lab from LEGO's old theme Time Cruisers. I remember wanting this set when I was little, really liked the idea of having a secret lab built into a mountain. So hey, I figured I'd try making my own version.

Oh, the weirdos I work with...

In fairness this shot was my idea. I loaded up an SLR670-S to test yesterday and still have a couple shots left. I know that whenever I need an enthusiastic model I can always get Peter. He loves the attention of being in front of the camera. It's one of the fun things about him.

Anyway I shoot very little Polaroid film and post even less of it, so I thought I would share this image from this morning.

My Entry For Bio-Cup 2020, Preliminary Round, Theme: The Future

The Eloi are simple and carefree people who live on the surface and eat fruit, while the Morlocks are an industrial lot who live underground to avoid the harmful light. They are two divergent evolutions of humankind; the Eloi are descendants of the worriless upper class who have grown placid with time, while the Morlock are mutations of the poor working class, forced to evolve underground to survive. Now, when night comes, the Morlocks venture to the surface to capture the Eloi, their primary source of food.

For my Future themed MOC, I decided to go with a vision from one of the very first Science Fiction stories, “The Time Machine” by HG Wells. In this story, humanity has devolved into two forms of the Eloi and Morlocks as an allegory to classism in 19th Century England. I tried to show off these differences by creating the two divergent characters of the Eloi and Morlock, contrasting scenes to depict their living conditions, as well as a mini-model of the visiting Time Machine. While the Eloi picks fruit from the trees on the surface, the Morlock slouches in its underground tunnel, preparing its tools for the next hunt.

This was on the inside flap of a reasonably (12x14x4) small box we got a few books in from Amazon. It was quite strange but also quite amusing to find. I guess it's for cats?

It's unusual for my car models to have a large tiled surface. I feared that having such a large surface look all smooth would make the model look incoherent if the other parts built with visible studs. Building the car completely studless would make it look very odd among my other vehicles.

I did go for a mix of studded parts and tiles in the end and I'm quite pleased with this compromise. I also used tiles to smooth out the tops of the vents in the back and that seems to pull it all together quite nicely.

Further revision on my Back to the Future time machine, using the Speed Champions wheels and mudguards.

Also managed to build a slight angle into the hood (which looks a little more piecemeal in these close-up pics than it does in person) and improve on the gull-wing doors.

As seen in Victoria B.C., but also a great song by the Winery Dogs. :)

Clare College, University of Cambridge. One of the things I love about historic cities is that they pull you back in time. You become a time traveller. Then, suddenly, you are brought brought back in time. Cambridge does that to me.

“It's against reason," said Filby.

"What reason?" said the Time Traveller.” H.G. Wells, The Time Machine.

Every photo has a story. The story (or stories) in the picture, as seen by the viewer, and the hidden, often personal, story. I'd like to share more of these stories but am often constrained (time etc). Take this one. I was enjoying the view of the river from Clare Bridge when I turned round and saw this rather photogenic gentleman approaching. Behind him was this beautiful classic car. Wow. Snap that quick! And I just about managed (not happy, but it froze the moment). It took me back in time. As the man came closer I realised it was Tim. And that is another story!

At first I wasn't going to build this. I know it's a classic, but many other people have already built it and with the Cuusoo LEGO set soon out, soon everybody will have one.

However, it is a cool vehicle and I'm not impressed by the preliminary pictures of the set. I realise that the set designers have a lot of constraints placed on them that I don't, but I figured I could build a nicer version.

Time Portal laboratory is another creation in Second Life by Frau Jo Yardley, the creative force behind the 1920s Berlin sims. It's a fun place to use to take trips to Ancient Rome; Tudor, Victorian or 1940s England; or 1920s-40s or 1950s/60s USA. maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Time%20Portal/126/124/1930
