Fire Flag Plume Moth (Sphenarches anisodactylus) (family Pterophoridae)

Only the second Plume Moth I have seen this year.I first spotted it on a Seaside Daisy in the breeze and then it flew to the grass. It was hanging on tightly in the stiff breeze.

I apologise in advance if I am slow catching up with your images.

I am not getting any notifications from Flickr, either by email or activity feed.

Against the backdrop of hilly roads and tightly-packed terrace houses glinting in the wintry sun, a 2-car 'Pacer', unit 142005, leaves Accrington in Lancashire bound for Colne with a Northern service from Preston.

On the skyline can be seen Jubilee Tower, which sits atop Darwen Hill. Completed in 1898 the tower was built to commemorate both Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, as well as a victory won by local folk granting them the right of access to the surrounding moors.

A shot that was discovered recently while clearing out old unused images. I figured this one still had some interest value.

Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus phoeniceus) - 20230516-06

Males are black with red shoulder patch that is sometimes concealed. Males have rusty feather edges in the winter. Females are streaked brown and often confused with sparrows. Look for long, sharply pointed bill. Often in flocks, especially in winter. Visits feeders. Breeds in marshes and scrubby, wet fields. Distinctive song, especially as migrants arrive in early spring. A proud male celebrates his vanquishing of the enemy found within the side mirror of a car. He fought that reflection for nearly five minutes, crammed in tight between door and mirror. His stance says it was all worth it.

These little honeybees were determined to hold tight to the sunflowers, as I had the shot set up outside. I thought about shooing them off, but realized that was symbolic of all the important things that we have been shooing off in nature. An action carried out on a large scale, that if not brought under control will have consequences more profound than we might think.

Please enjoy the honeybee details in Large

Thank you so much for your visit!

Olivi di Liguria

La raccolta

Colline sopra Lavagna.

La collina è ricoperta di olivi. Purtroppo molti non sono più curati.

We hiked through miles of wide meadows and burned timber to get to the peaceful valley in which this cabin sits. It's used for ranger patrols and animal researchers. This area is prime grizzly bear habitat although we didn't see any. The door was padlocked and the windows tightly barred to keep out bears (and curious human visitors).

Happy Window Wednesday!

Ladybower from Heatherdene.

Had a quick visit to the Peak District yesterday for a catch up with a friend I did my apprenticeship with.

Wasn't really a day for photography. Morning was nice but it was spent driving to different places. He wanted to see as many as he could on a day without his 10yr old and 5yr old and I lost count how many times he said 'I couldn't do this if I had the kids.'

Not met up with him for over a year so we slipped back in to being 16 year old apprentices and 30 year old running jokes made an appearance regularly.

Winnats for the Insta shot, then Ladybower, Higger Tor and Curbar Edge before some food in the Eyre Arms in Calver. Great day out and had him home in time to pick the kids up.
