It was high tide this morning at the Lighthouse. There a few photographs have to go home early after the wave hit. I just hope that photography can recovery all the camera gear.

As you can see, I like to stay in the middle of the frame but every few second the large wave just slam at you. All the camera gear and include yourself got all wet and the weather is 40 degrees. Not fun when you got wet on a cold morning.

Sunset coincided with high tide last night so I made the effort to cross the Wirral to the boatyard at Heswall.

Devil's Punchbowl Natural Area

Depoe Bay, Oregon

The Oregon Coast is deservedly well known for its scenic beauty. This is one of the most beautiful places we visited on our August road trip.

Penmon point taking a battering at high tide last Saturday morning. Always ignored these cottages in past visits but the fantastic moody light and high tide made for some compelling shots

I almost hate to see the fields here turned under (plowed) for Spring planting because of all the color. The red grass is Sour Grass and the yellow flowers are wild portulaca. It moves in and takes over the field every spring. Got to go though to make way for Sunflowers. Cheers everybody.

Got lucky one morning when I went to the beach without checking the Tide Tables. Arrived at low tide and was able to enjoy the tide pools and all the ocean critters that live along the rocky shoreline.

This is my second image of the Terschelling coastline. This is the first shot where I used a ND8 filter reducing f-stops with 3. In addition I used a polarising filter. Must say that I'm quite happy with the effect. The only difficulty with larger lenses has been the autofocus, which turned to be off in some occasions. Not with the 24-70mm lens I used here happily. Have a nice Monday and please feel free to comment on technicals, still learning

The tourists have headed home and the beach at Gwithian seems big again with only empty pools and shells left for the tide to reclaim once more.

I'm very grateful for all your visits and would like to thank you now for stopping by, and any comments you may leave. Much appreciated, John...

Porto Palafita da Carrasqueira - Stilt Port of Carrasqueira

Carrasqueira, Alentejo, Portugal

Situated the Natural Reserve of the Sado Estuary is the stilt fishing "port" of Carrasqueira which gives access to boats at even at low tide. This traditional port has served as an anchorage for local fishing boats for more than two centuries.

High tide waves on a southern California beach after an overnight rain storm. The islands in the background are Anacapa Island on the left and Santa Cruz Island on the right. Both islands are part of the Channel Islands National Park.

Took a detour to the Pill on my way home after the supermarket. Shopping in one hand, camera in the other to pay a visit to the boats sitting in the drizzly mist with the tide silently and slowly retreating into the distant abyss..

At the far end of a busy Pismo Beach, jagged rocks and sea caves are exposed at low tide.

Vacationland is the nickname for Maine. And it does make sense since it has so many places you can go for either fall, winter or summer vacations. Coastal Maine is very busy during the summer and Old Orchard beach is probably its busiest beach. There is a large pier located centrally at the beach and that's where I took this picture from. I really liked how people were walking on the expanded, due to low tide, beach and their reflections on the wet surface.

This is an early morning capture on the coast of Maine at low tide. I wanted to capture this rough landscape from a low perspective, so I did so in a 10 image focus stack to insure sharpness.

Here's the Google Maps link to see the location in Birch Habor. There is a small turnout there where you can park and walk right to the ocean. It is an amazing location to capture the Sunrise.
