Twice a day, the brackish water of the Scheldt enters this area, creating mudflats and salt marshes. The dead trees are a result of the water's salinity.

The long exposure. See Tidal story I for the story of this photo.

A 1.3 km narrow passage joins the Pacific Ocean with the Inland Sea between Naruto on Shikoku Island and Awaji Island. The waters rush through between low and high tides at speeds up to 15-20 km/hour. When conditions are right a large whirlpool forms in the middle of the passage. The current in the strait is the 4th fastest in the world and it is a popular tourist destination.

Tidal River is the main settlement in the Wilson's Promontory National Park in Victoria. It sits below the highest peak in the park, Mount Oberon (558 m) which has 360 degree views of the entire peninsula.

The rocky island off the coast here is Great Glennie Island, a marine reserve that is home to hundreds of fur seals.
