Grand Canyon, Arizona, April 2021.

Got some nice photos of some little pollinators doing their thing. They are difficult to capture, not only because of their size, but because they don't hold still for very long, if at all. It's a beautiful day here today. Sunny and warm but not too hot or too cold.

Day 139 of 365

Swan soft clouds possess your feathers

Upon Blue Jay and delicate shadows

Your beauty is my passport to serenity,

My precious peacock companion.

As you pivot and wonder about

Spirals of plumes and fluff

Swoop and dive caressing my garden

While you bring comfort to my heart

And joy for my eyes;

I’m tickled you are my friend.

Holding you close with true devotion,

I thank you with a thousand kisses,

Wrapping you in a million hugs

And tickled fleecy pieces.

Kruger National Park

The African Wild Dogs are considered the best hunters in the world, these puppy-like predators hunt in packs and have a kill rate of over 85%. Difficult to believe if you look at this guy.

One of the best illustrations I’ve come across for depth of field effects in photography is using guitar strings, because of the parallel lines. So I thought I would try it for the Crazy Tuesday group’s theme of Open Aperture today.

Those who have been following me since the Big Bang will already be familiar with my girlfriends - I’m only allowed to keep two in the house :) This is Samantha, my trusty vintage 12-string.

12-strings play like six-strings (same chords and tuning) but the strings are arranged in pairs like a mandolin. The pairs play the same note, but for the four thicker pairs one of them is thinner and tuned an octave higher. This gives the 12-string a richer louder sound - great for public performance.

The strings are perfectly still here even though they look like they are all playing on a harmonic. The macro lens is wide open. I also tried a 50mm prime and a 35mm vintage macro, but this 105mm lens gave the best view and the strongest depth of field fall off.

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Craziness :)

A bit of glittery nail polish spread onto a card and some sunshine makes some very sparkly pink bokeh for a pink heart. HMM!

I've been wanting to take a photo of the underside of an Orange Tip for many years but they're so flighty. I finally struck gold when an already cool day gor cooler, forcing this female to land because its flight muscles were too cold for flight. I couldn't believe my luck when it landed on a Red Campion, making for a really colourful combination with the moss-green blotches on the underside of the wings and the out-of-focus flowers in the background - and on my birthday too :)). Taken at Wigan Flashes LNR, Lancs.

Into the Light - Day 110 - Year 2022

Or run your luppers up and down the strillers bona, as Julian might have said to Sandy. (Only UK chaps of a certain age with a certain sense of humour will understand that reference.)

In a cold morning, the light gave the moss some rest; still a bit frozen, but the colors of those little things were fascinating to me.

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. Okay, so it is more like cerise than pink but she was flattered after I got the shot and gave me a warm smile a split second after this. Enjoy!

Week 24: Get Pushed

When I found out that I was paired with JLC Photography Spokane,WA I must say, I was scared.

His photo stream is full of surreal images of himself and he makes it look so EASY!!

I on the other hand I haven't got a clue when it comes to surreal anything.

So after trying different things that I'm too embarrassed to share, I decided to go with this image, I will try to put one of the one of the failed attempts, if I remember how.

Week 24: Get Pushed

An arduous walk up Dumgoyne, a couple of weeks ago with far too much camera gear with Doug. It was quite flat light at sunrise until, for a brief moment, the sun broke through and shone like a torch over Loch Lomond and the Arrochar Alps.

Banff Sweet Shoppe has been an iconic candy store on Banff Avenue for 17 years. It's known for its homemade chocolates, homemade fudge and retro candy.

Borrowed our sons light box to take this, love the light it creates!

A 1957 Ford Thunderbird from Montana at a classic car repair/restoration facility ~ Pine Plains, NY

While travelling from A to B, my better half prefers we get there ASAP. However, with the motto, "You never know till you go." sometimes I am aloud the B route. Or rather, the direction that allows us to investigate. Don’t get me wrong, I would be lost without this navigator.

The opportunity to take a more circuitous route resulted in a very unusual find. An abandoned, brilliant pink train car was within my grasp. The find of the day and a rare one at that.

Grizzly cubs love to play. I have seen them fashion their own toys out of sticks and run around in games of tag but by far the most popular activity for one year olds is wrestling.

What does the victor win? It looks like the right to tickle the loser's paws.

There was a tragedy in Glacier National Park this week. Brad Treat, a U. S. Forest Officer, was killed by a grizzly while mountain biking. This is a sad reminder that grizzlies are wild and potentially dangerous animals. Never approach or feed a bear! Remember when hiking to always carry bear spray and always make noise! If you live in or are venturing into bear country, take a Bear Aware course if one is available in your area.

Mountain biking is dangerous because bears may share the same trails and bikers can surprise a bear, which is what happened in this case. That is why you should make noise while hiking... bears will generally avoid humans if they are aware of your presence.

RIP Mr Treat, by all accounts you were a terrific member of the Forest Service. My condolences to the family.

Happy Macro Monday
