The Indalo is a prehistoric magical symbol found in the cave of "Los Letreros" ("The Signboards") in Sierra de María-Los Vélez Natural Park in Vélez Blanco, Almería, Andalusia, Spain. It has been customary to paint the Indalo symbol on the front of houses and businesses to protect them from evil (similar to Kokopelli of the south-western US) and is considered to be a god totem. The indalo has an origin in the Levante, Spain and dates back to 2500 BC. The pictograph was named in memory of Saint Indaletius, and means Indal eccius (Messenger of the Gods) in the Iberian language.

Sculpture of the man of Indalo in Almería

Legend has it that the Indalo was a ghost that could hold and carry a rainbow in his hands (thus the arch over the head of the man). The Indalo has been adopted as the official symbol in the province of Almería. The Indalo symbol is used as a lucky charm in the Almería region also. To carry the charm is only beneficial if it has been presented as a gift. Some people also believe that the story behind the symbol of the Indalo man is about a man who escapes in a cave to get away from the rain, then when the rain stops, out comes a rainbow and when the man walks away from the wall of the cave, the image is left there. The American indigenous rights organization Cultural Survival uses an Indalo symbol on its logo.

Autumn Gardening

Getting back into the Thursday barn walk groove was straightforward enough, except that I'd forgotten my camera. So this is unashamedly fauxlaroid.

Here's the last one in this little series until next time I visit.

One of the most adorable little museums to be found anywhere is the Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum. Located in Buckland, MA across the Deerfield River and up the hill from its namesake town, it operates on trackage in the small former Boston and Maine Yard (beside the active Berkshire and Eastern nee Pan Am Freight Main) and preserves the road's large wooden freight house dating from 1867.

But it owes its existence to its pride and joy, Shelburne Falls and Colrain Street Railway trolley No. 10. Built in 1896 by Wasson Manufacturing company in Springfield for the newly constructed seven mile long rural trolley line connecting its namesake towns. The little line lasted only 30 years and upon its abandonment in 1927 little number 10 was sold to a local farmer who used it as a shed and chicken coop for 65 years. In 1992 his son donated the shell back to the newly formed museum and seven years later she was back in operation.

Here is a view looking west at number 10 running under the wire on about 1000 ft of track in the old rail yard.

If you ever find yourself in Shelburne Falls (and you really should because it's just lovely) stop by the museum and take a little ride yourself. To learn more check out their website here: www.sftm.org/index.shtml

Oh, and I'd be remiss if I wrapped this up without a mention about Shelburne's most famous attraction, The Bridge of Flowers. It is truly a must see and if you're ever traveling west on Route 2 make the short detour into town, it is truly worth it. If you've never heard of it check out this: newengland.com/today/travel/massachusetts/berkshires/brid...

Oh, and as for that bridge, little old number 10 ran over it for the 19 years it was in service providing the Shelburne Falls and Colraine Street Railway a direct freight connection to the Boston and Maine and New Haven (which came to town too until abandoning their route up through Conway in 1923). Between the museum and the bridge this tiny little otherwise unremarkable street railway has left an indelible impact on the community far outlasting its utility as a mere means of transportation.

HWW! Taken while I was sitting in the passenger seat of the SUV

The light in some parts of Wales always manages to take me by surprise. A really cloudy early[ish] start and down to the beach at Three Cliffs Bay. The light was really weird, one moment with a golden sunny haze, the next almost a black shade of grey. All I have done here is to increase the overall saturation a tad and sharpen very slightly.

A succulent of some sort, but it's still green.

Happy Truck Thursday!

Luckily some traditions can continue, lockdown or no.

You can see my little tree on the skyline if you look carefully.

Thursday is one of my best days to enjoy solo dolly time (if only the dogs would cooperate by letting me out of their sight more often!), so I pick one neglected shelf Poppy to redress/photograph. The lovely Bonjour Mademoiselle got the opportunity today. All my girls are feeling jealous of those 2018 IFDC girls. ;)

Another lot of toilet doors (ok, don't get worried, just a fun opportunity again). These are at our church's Junior College and I thought quite well done. Note there is one thankfully for parents on the right because as many of you know, sitting on one of those small kid's toilets with knees under your chin just isn't relaxing enough! Happy Thursday Door Day!

At the rest stop. For Gorgeous Green Thursday!

It's Thursday, make sure you strut yourself today even if no one is watching. Besides if you don't, NO ONE WILL!!!

Embrace the turkey, Be one with the turkey, Be the turkey.

Be well and be blessed. Also remember, for all things holy, be nice to one another!

Enjoy.
