In the early 50's DeGrazia started working on ceramics. This is when he perfected his copper-based glaze. NBC studios recorded a newsreel, called 'Watch the World,' where they filmed DeGrazia and Marion making these ceramics. He used original molds and his inspirations were taken from desert shapes and colors. Happy Throwback Thursday!

Several phonebooths (or whatever you call these now) were fitted out with ads for Coca-Cola that evoked the heyday of Coke ads, from the fifties and sixties. That these were Spanish-language ads made me wonder whether the choice of a throwback look was somehow intentional.

But a crown is associated with kings and queens, prince and princess–because royalty does not mean much to me–I thought of doing a crown for the desert Indians. This crown I wanted of silver and turquoise, gold and jewels. A crown to tell the story of the saguaro harvest, a crown of thanksgiving.” Happy Throwback Thursday!
