Cleaning my drawers, I found this today... My second portrait I ever drew, of John Cooper, if you can tell, haha! I love finding things like this, really shows how much I've developed since then.

Man, I remember how awesome thought this was... Throwbacks always gettcha don't they?

#throwback to one of my fav spots on Oahu: Hanauma Bay State Park. It's such a shame how Hawaii was forced to be a part of the US in 1959. It makes sense on so many levels, though, right? Not just for part of the military strategy, but to exploit the serene naturescape and its people. And if the US Gov't wants it, they'll take it at all costs...

🌺After many visits to the islands, I will say this... authentic Hawaiian culture and traditions are such a beautiful part of this world. Some of the Hawaiian people I've met during my travels are some of the most special I've come across in my lifetime, like Roy on Kauai, who lives simply and paddles most days, well into his later years. And Eva, from Molokai, who helped me prep food for athletes in March of 2018.

Aloha and warm hospitality still flows throughout the islands and I personally don't consider the HI islands as part of the divided states of America... the true vibe is way too spiritually beautiful, majestic & healing. The islands are much unlike the majority of the rest of the US. ❤️ It is sad how neglected the locals are there, given their hard work and commitment to community.

I still haven't made it to Lanai... that's reserved for the ultra, ultra rich, right? Who owns and runs what, these days? It's hard to tell, based on bleeding headlines.. but who's believing the news outlets nowadays? They are so incentivized to spread misinformation, it's hard to tell. Add in the techies miracle worker force: "AI" and wow, who's winning now? Humans or the computer? Unfortunately, it looks like computers are in the lead. I prefer real intelligence to artificial intelligence, but that doesn't seem to be as profitable, for the time being.

🌟All of that aside, gosh, these islands and people😍 so many lovely memories to reflect on this morning, during my gratitude process. I am grateful I got to show my son some of the islands, while he was young. Even if he doesn't remember our trip details, I know it left an imprint on his being. ❤️

When I recently mentioned an LA Times journalist that Hawaii is always on my mind, I am not kidding. 👍

Enjoy your week, Flickr community ✨🙏

Mimi & Poppy's Scans Edition

My grandpa (Poppy) passed away overnight, and I remembered that I'd thrown these scans of Kodachrome slides he & Mimi owned onto Facebook some time back, but never quite got them here. The world through his eyes. I'm going to miss him so much.

Last throwback!

Its been a year! I had sooo many that I liked and couldn't decide which should have been the last one.... I ended up with a headache and picked at random.

I guess I picked this one because its a forgotten vehicle and its popularity has risen greatly over the last couple of years. I remember in my young model car building days Challengers where my fave....

In the early 50's DeGrazia started working on ceramics. This is when he perfected his copper-based glaze. NBC studios recorded a newsreel, called 'Watch the World,' where they filmed DeGrazia and Marion making these ceramics. He used original molds and his inspirations were taken from desert shapes and colors. Happy Throwback Thursday!

Pepsi Throwback, made with natural sugar. Not as good as regular Pepsi, but I could get used to it - and I like the logo much better than the new one.

finally got to spend some quality time with Rosany and we found this "Throwback" bottle of Mountain Dew lol I love it

Beginning with his Masters Thesis paintings in the mid-1940’s and continuing through the mid-1950’s, artist Ted DeGrazia produced a small number of nonrepresentational abstract oils, watercolors, and screen prints. Although these pure abstracts account for less than one half of one percent of his known work, DeGrazia repeatedly explored the style and devoted serious attention to it for more than a decade. Happy Throwback Thursday!

Me at the thinnest I've been in my adult life--94 pounds. (Sounds emaciated but it isn't when you're 4'6".)

Moving with his family from Oakland, CA Robert Spray settled in Tucson, AZ where he established a silkscreen shop. He began painting portraits as a student at McClymonds High School, which led to a scholarship at the CCAC. During the 1930s he was employed on the Federal Art Project. Screen printer Robert Spray beautifully captured Ted DeGrazia’s artistic style and color palette in this series of prints he produced for the DeGrazia Studios in the early 1950’s. Happy Throwback Thursday!

A very limited number of these unsigned and unnumbered screen prints are available for purchase in our gift shop at the Gallery in the Sun, $175.00 (unframed) or $250.00 (framed).

Dad and I after building the best wall unit we ever constructed. Dresser, entertainment stand, massive desk and bookshelves all connected to load baring walls. Sturdy as hell.

A stylish wagon? Has to be a throwback..... Lets welcome this lovely Buick wagon into this Throwback Thursday!
