Retro style and "made with real sugar"...oh goody!

Tiny, baby puppy. He was probably around 25-30 pounds here... now, he's close to 110. Makes me want to cry :(

A photo of this scene almost a year ago got me 400 000 views and I have come so far since then. Here's to the New Year: Happy holidays everyone.

This week we are going back twenty-six years to 1998 and to KC 56 on O'Connell Street. The bus is operating a service on route 3 to Larkhill. This route started running between Larkhill / Whitehall and Sandymount in 1940. Originally terminating at Sandymount Tower, it moved to St. John's Church in 1972. Around 1990, certain departures were extended to / from UCD Belfield. In 2012 the route was replaced by a new route 1 between Santry and Sandymount, with Larkhill being served by an extended route 44, as part of Network Direct.

 

KC 58 was new to CIE in 1984. The final KC Class buses were withdrawn from the Dublin Bus fleet in 2000, with a farewell run for this class and the KD Class double-deckers taking place on the 13th January 2001. Members of the KC Class lasted a little longer with Bus Eireann.

 

There has been a few changes to O'Connell Street since this photograph was taken. Tram lines now go down the road as part of the Luas Green Line. The public toilets in the centre of the road are gone, and the Spire dominates the centre of the background.

This week we are going back seventeen years to 2007 and to AX 459 on O'Connell Street with a service on route 11B to UCD Belfield.

 

Route 11B started operating between the city centre and UCD Belfield around 1970. It followed route 11 south through Ranelagh and Clonskeagh, and entered UDC from the western side of the campus. Around 1984 it was extended north to the junction at Griffith Avenue and St. Mobhi Road, sharing a terminus with route 11. Around 1988 it was extended further north to Wadelai Park along with the 11. The route ceased to operate in 2011 under Network Direct changes.

 

AX 459 was new to Dublin Bus in 2006. It was withdrawn at the end of 2021. It spent some of its final months as a cleaning bus during the Covid-19 pandemic.

 

Clery's department store in the background closed in 2015. The building was later renovated as the "Clery's Quarter" and new shops opened within it in 2024.

In August of 2011, a SOO SD60 leads a CP AC4400CW east on CP 498 towards the BRC in Franklin Park

This isn’t a Corvette. It’s the Equus Throwback.

 

Okay, so it is a Corvette, sort of.

 

But this Corvette has been restyled, and given a little bit more grunt by Equus Automotive, creator of the Bass770.

 

The retro-inspired Throwback is a limited model, with only 25 planned by the Detroit-based company, which utilises the ‘Vette as a basis to create a “significantly upgraded” muscle car.

 

The Corvette’s supercharged V8 can be tuned to an output of 746kW and 1114Nm. Equus says it’s capable of a 2.5-second run to 97km/h (60mph), and has a top speed of 354km/h.

 

Equus Autmotive’s goal with the Throwback was to inspire a sense of nostalgia in muscle car fans while providing a car with modern-day usability.

 

“The Throwback model uses unique styling language in its outer skin to create a breathtaking vision of the ultimate Corvette. Equus takes the customer down memory lane to an era when Corvettes were synonymous with performance and class.

 

“The Throwback can be personalized for the design orientated drivers or for the fastest paced performance centric customer, always emphasizing the original love of an icon, desire for innovation and uncompromised quality.

 

“Just as companies like Brabus and Alpina focus on European brands, Equus Automotive is focused on providing American Sports car lovers the ultimate interpretation of todayʼs designs.

This week we are going back thirty-eight years to 1986 and to KC 89 at Bray Staton. The bus is dressed for route 85.

 

CIE started running route 85 between Bray and Enniskerry in 1945. From around 1976 to around 1986, the route also served Oldcourt in Bray, and then from around 1986 it served Ballywaltrim. In December 1995 the route became route 185, with minibuses taking over. In 2018, Go-Ahead Ireland took over the operation of route 185.

 

KC 89 was new to CIE in 1984. It was withdrawn by Dublin Bus around the year 2000.

 

In April 2024, work started on a new bus interchange at the front of Bray Daly Station.

My older cousin Kevin (he got me involved in this whole graphic design thing back in 7th grade) happened to send me this photo a few days ago. At first I could not place where this was taken then i remembered it was on our family trip down to Disney World in the mid 80s. I'm guessing I was 6 or 8? Mom if you are watching can you email me with the year if you know?

 

Check out that camera! I can't think of the name of the type of film it took; it was the kind that had the two round pieces at the end connected by a little thin flat piece? I'm sure we all had a camera like that when we were kids. Well, the film on this trip is one of the 5 rolls of film i've ever taken that I don't have a clue what happened to. I don't recall ever seeing the prints.

 

facts about the trip:

• there were about 10 or 12 of us in the white conversion van making the trip from ohio to florida

• I peed in the van during my sleep - i think only my aunt wilma knew (kevin's mom)

• i ate my first fudruckers burger. mmmm

• I bought the sweetest ninja sword ever at the japanese village

• i rode the michael jackson ride

• I was in love with whitney houston at the time. every 5 minutes "i wanna dance with somebody" would come on the radio. Imagine the amount of teasing you get when you are the shy, youngest kid in a van with all of your family.

Yeah.. this was for Lazy Sunday and I was REALLY lazy. I forgot to do much but put it out. It's still discounted for a few days. Main lantern. XD

The absolute realest family photo I've seen. Just true-to-life perfection all around. It's my favorite.

Tail end of 1987

Moving with his family from Oakland, CA Robert Spray settled in Tucson, AZ where he established a silkscreen shop. He began painting portraits as a student which led to a scholarship at the CCAC. During the 1930s he was employed on the Federal Art Project. Screen printer Robert Spray beautifully captured Ted DeGrazia’s artistic style and color palette in this series of prints he produced for the DeGrazia Studios in the early 1950’s. Take for Nikon Digital SLR Challenge #157 - "Throwback"

 

Still workin' on photos of my brother looking rather dapper.

This is a copy of a small print . The original was taken in the Alps on the way from France to Italy in about 1967. The car is a l947 Armstrong Siddeley. The woman is my wife , Janine Lowell Ludwig, who sadly passed away years ago.
