There are many things that can be considered Jewish--apparent or not. I think that photographs are common symbols of Judaism. I also think family and togetherness is a big part of Jewish life. I love looking at photos of my family and remembering past events through photos. In one of my photos of Becca's room, a Tufts Hillel frisbee is the focus but surrounding the frisbee are many photographs that probably have some significance and meaning to Becca. Another photograph I took in Becca's room is a photo in a red picture frame. The three girls in the photo are laughing and smiling together. It looks like a special occasion to me, such as a Bat or Bar Mitzvah celebration. One photograph simply captures a short note from Becca's grandparents. This communicates the importance and strong presence of family. Judaism can be perceived in many ways. I chose to express Judaism through photographs, togetherness, and family.

My approach to taking these photos was to pay attention to more overtly Jewish things. While photographing, I focused on taking BBYO-themed (B'nai B'rith Youth Organization) pictures because it’s one thing I’ve missed a lot from home. I chose the BBYO T-shirt and the Sabra hummus picture based off that theme and specifically the Sabra hummus because that was the name of my sister chapter. I also decided to display the image of the crown because it represents Purim, one of my favorite holidays.

Q: What do you do when struggling for ideas ?
A: Experiment, and that’s what this is. Self-portrait from one lens through another … the optics flip me upside down.

Mon intérêt s'est attaché d'abord aux inscriptions cabalistiques peintes sur les arbres et sur les palettes de bois désarticulées qui constituent les affûts de chasse du patrimoine forestier ardennais.
En parcourant exclusivement les sentiers forestiers, je me suis aperçu également qu'il est difficile de photographier le cadre naturel sans que figurent sur les photos les marques posées par l'Homme. Martelages, coupes, préservations, zones privées, bornes, réserves naturelles, interdits, balises de randonnées, etc. Des éléments incongrus qui semblent peints, gravés ou posés parfois en dépit du bon sens. Autant de marques qui apparaissent comme des tatouages qui rappellent notre décalage avec la nature constamment exploitée et modifiée.
Mon intention première n'est pas d'inventorier, d'expliquer ou de dépeindre les marques, mais de sillonner forêts et prairies pour esthétiser ensemble l'environnement et les empreintes par le cadre et la lumière. Pourtant, certaines marques interpellent.

he castle is situated on the Laich of Moray, a fertile plain that was once the swampy foreshore of Spynie Loch. This was originally a more defensive position than it appears today, long after the loch was drained.
The motte is a huge man-made mound, with steep sides and a wide ditch separating it from the bailey. The whole site is enclosed by a water-filled ditch, which is more a mark of its boundary than it is a serious defensive measure.
Duffus Castle was built by a Flemish man named Freskin, who came to Scotland in the first half of the 1100s. After an uprising by the ‘men of Moray’ against David I in 1130, the king sent Freskin north as a representative of royal authority.
He was given the estate of Duffus, and here he built an earthwork-and-timber castle. Freskin’s son William adopted the title of ‘de Moravia’ – of Moray. By 1200, the family had become the most influential noble family in northern Scotland, giving rise to the earls of Sutherland and Clan Murray.
In about 1270, the castle passed to Sir Reginald Cheyne the Elder, Lord of Inverugie. He probably built the square stone keep on top of the motte, and the curtain wall encircling the bailey. In 1305, the invading King Edward I of England gave him a grant of 200 oaks from the royal forests of Darnaway and Longmorn, which were probably used for the castle’s floors and roofs.
By 1350, the castle had passed to a younger son of the Earl of Sutherland through marriage. It may have been then that the keep was abandoned, possibly because it was beginning to slip down the mound, and a new residence established at the north of the bailey.
Viscount Dundee, leader of the first Jacobite Rising, dined in the castle as a guest of James, Lord Duffus in 1689, prior to his victory against King William II’s government forces at Killiecrankie. Soon after, Lord Duffus moved to the nearby Duffus House. The castle quickly fell into decay.
I decided to give this another go, and since my sister and her husband was visiting us she got to do the modelling.
