A warm day walk on Thompson's Beach with my husband brought these scenes to my attention. I hope you enjoy them.

The Union Pacific local departs Thompson Springs, Utah eastbound after switching for a couple hours in 100-degree heat on August 12, 2021.

Canadian National SD70 No. 5604 leading a westbound for Vancouver nearing Spences Bridge with an eastbound Canadian Pacific on the other side of the river. 8 September 2009.

The Thompson River from a west side bank looking south late in the day. A few trees are colored by the setting sun and small sand bars appear at low tide.

Kamloops, B.C.

Growing up, this was the railway bridge that kids jumped from into the river in some idiotic teenage rite of passage. I only did it twice but that was two times too many. :-)

At first, I was going to title this "Railway Bridge" but then I thought ... no, I hadn't taken the picture for the bridge. This shot was about everything -- the gorgeous sunny day, the snowy hills (Mt. Paul on the right), all the water fowl in the river, and childhood memories including the bridge.

I had the chance visit and photograph this ghost town in Thompson Springs, Utah twice now. The first time was 12 years ago on a road trip. It was great to see this beautiful sign still there, if you're in Utah try to make the pilgrimage to this living photography landmark.

Hunter S. Thompson was the master of Gonzo Journalism.

Gonzo journalism is a style of journalism that is written without claims of objectivity, often including the reporter as part of the story via a first-person narrative. The word "gonzo" is believed to have been first used in 1970 to describe an article by Hunter S. Thompson, who later popularized the style. It is an energetic first-person participatory writing style in which the author is a protagonist, and it draws its power from a combination of social critique and self-satire.

Thompson, Utah

...north of Arches National Park, off I-70

The narrow blacktop road leads for a few miles out of town where it abruptly becomes dirt and gravel...in some areas. You won't need a 4WD, but it does get a bit rutty in places. Thompson Canyon has a few miners dugouts and remnants about it as you drive further on, but before you get to the junction where you turn off for Sego, there is an impressive display of petroglyphs that are worth stopping for.

The night gas passes a signal as it curves into Thompson Falls, ending its journey and ending ours.

After a long day of driving last June, it was late afternoon by the time we arrived at our destination in the Kamloops area and we weren't the only ones out to stretch our legs. Here, I liked the carefree atmosphere of the colorful woman biking up the lane with her flowing hair. The strong Thompson Valley breezes were warm and it felt good to be outside before we settled for the night.

1/4 plate daguerreotype.

Here is the only plate from a shoot with Siolo Thompson siolothompson.com/

My plates are recycled and I am starting to see copper and thin areas of silver resulting in uneven sensitization and artifiacts. Today was a tough one and after shooting 6 plates, this plate was the only one that survived. Two plates came out very clean but developed major problems during gilding and they could not be saved. I decided to go ahead and gild this one because the plate will not tolerate another buffing so the day was not a total loss. Here it is with all the flaws. Siolo was delightful through the whole process and has agreed to come back and try again. I lost the battle not the war.

It's been a warm spring and the juvies arrived earlier than usual. This view serves to confirm that this is a female Broad-tailed Hummer, nnd likely a juvie. We need to do this close examination only in late summer when the Rufous migrants are passing through. There is no rufous is the facial area. The throat area (gorget) is a clean finely streaked white. Adult Rufous females have a red ragged central spot in their gorget areas. It's not always easy to capture the ideal view... if uncertain re a bird's ID I take multiple shots of the same bird (if it cooperates) to make its ID task a little easier for me. Tail extension is also one of the discriminators between these two species... Rufous has shorter.

At Thompson Chemists in SoHo, you can listen to bluegrass from Sheriff and the Deputy every other Tuesday night. The band plays among rows of ointments and face creams, a performance known as the Thompson Street Medicine Show. It draws a local crowd. The show is just one of the unusual offerings at the shop, opened in 1994 by pharmacist Gary Alony.

I've walked by this building in prior visits to Chicago, but I never went inside before. The atrium is an interesting subject for architectural photography.
