Seaport Village. Downtown San Diego, CA

One year ago we spent the weekend in Harpers Ferry, WV.

It was not a coincidence that it was also Inauguration wknd. While only 63 miles from DC, it felt far, far away!

did slight sliding to enhance the foggy day detail - HSS!

I hadn't visited here for many years!

The black-headed gulls were very noisy indeed!!

Half Dome at sunset as seen from Glacier Point in Yosemite.

It's one of the best sunsets I've ever witnessed I hope you w'd enjoy it too.

I took lot of pictures as the sunset progressed The longer you wait for something, the more you appreciate it when you get it. Because anything worth having is definitely something worth waiting.

Sun was almost gone and the dome lit-up !

A big swell tonight.. at least 2.5m and high tide so I went to Mona Vale pool for the first time. The pool is some distance from shore and has its own lighting. There are two Rockpools - one suitable for toddlers and a larger pool measuring 30 metres for bigger kids and adults

www.manlyaustralia.com.au/info/thingstodo/ocean-swimming-...

I took the shots from the headland under cover as it was raining a lot. This was a longer exposure of 1.3 seconds allowing a wider aperture for the starbursts from the lights. The counterside is that the waves behind aren't as distinct. Next time a higher ISO would fix this.

Parking is 5 seconds away. Unfortunately no lightning or really differentiated clouds (I guess that a rainbow would have been sweet too) but still some great shots to share. It wasn't intentional to upload them all at the same time.

In 1790. early Spanish explorers reported over 1500 indigenous Lower Skagit people living in permeant villages around area of the farmland in this photo . They had been there for time immemorial. In 60 years, that would all change with the coming of settlers like Issac Ebey.

In 1850, Issac Neff Ebey claimed one square mile of this prairie. He had come West looking for land to settle. After hearing about Whidbey Island, he came to look and fell in love with its potential. Later, in 1850, when Congress passed the Donation Land Act to induce the settlement of the Oregon Territory, Ebey was on the spot and quickly claimed his 640 acres. In 1854 the remainder of his family which included his wife, children, his mother and father, some of his siblings and their children, and a cousin arrived on the island and made their claims on the Prairie near Isaac. Ebey’s father, Joseph, built a home on the Ridge overlooking the Prairie. More settlers came and by 1860 all the best farmland had been claimed. The area now lies in Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve which is a unique unit of the National Park System that preserves and protects the historical record of the exploration and settlement of central Whidbey Island from 19th century to the present. Within the Reserve, historic farms, like the one in the photo, are still under cultivation. The land use patterns are essentially unchanged since settlers claimed the land in the 1850s.

The view looking down from the top in Arizona. A 1.5 mile hike got us to Horseshoe Bend near Page, Arizona, USA. The heat was a bit challenging at mid-day in June. About 1000 feet below the Colorado River was a beautiful green as it made its way through Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. There were a good number of people with the same idea.

The Courthouse

Located on Wharf Street in historic Lahaina, the Old Courthouse and Customs House is a cultural treasure. Originally opened in 1860, it served dual purpose as a customs house for whaling and commercial ships as well as home to governmental business and court affairs. The building was constructed during the late 1850s on the property of the Old Fort, and a remaining wall of the old fort can still be seen off to the side of the courthouse. It was built with materials from one of Kamehameha III's palaces that was destroyed during a windstorm before completion, which adds a unique twist to its history. The courthouse was renovated in 1925 in the Greek Revival architectural style that you see today.

The upstairs of the courthouse features the Lahaina Heritage Museum, which includes history of the whaling town and historical artifacts, as well as exhibits on the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary. A balcony that was part of the 1925 renovations overlooks the scenic harbor.

The first floor houses a small art gallery, gift shop, and the Lahaina Visitor Center.

Located at the edge of Lahaina's beautiful Banyan Street Park, the two-story courthouse sits across the street from the water just a short walk from Lahaina's many popular shops, galleries, and restaurants.

The best time of day to visit National Parks and Monuments is during sunrise when few if any people are around. I was fortunate to capture this area of El Malpais at its finest.

Dedham Vale on the River Stour, early morning before sunrise. Morning mist still clinging to the floor of the vale. Cattle just beginning to awake and stir. Was it worth getting up at 5AM and driving 20 miles to walk briskly through wet grass for this? I will let you decide. Thanks for looking.

Dedham Vale is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that is on the Essex-Suffolk borders in eastern England. It is one of a kind.

I hadn't realised when passing this nice looking building that it's all that's left of what was once the huge Royal Victoria Military Hospital, a building that was a quarter of a mile long!

www.hants.gov.uk/thingstodo/countryparks/rvcp/our-story/t...

The hospital was completed at the end of the Crimean War but was often felt to have been designed to be impressive rather than suitable for treating those wounded as a result of conflicts (Florence Nightingale highlighted flaws in the design when she returned from the Crimean War).

The hospital was used in both WWI and WWII but fell into disuse in the 1950s and was demolished in 1966. The chapel was located in the centre of the building and was also scheduled for demolition but was eventually saved from that fate.

Bruneau Dunes has one of the longest camping seasons in Idaho's system. Campers often start coming in March and continue to enjoy the park's warm weather late into the fall. Shade trees and shelters are abundant in the campground. A new group camp area with shelter and 50 sites has been added. Two camping cabins are also available for rent in the park.

It's Iceberg season in Newfoundland and Labrador. Here are just a few as seen on a foggy evening along the Straight Shore near Deadman's Bay/Lumsden.

Icebergs are arriving along many points along the northern and eastern coasts of Newfoundland. They are quite plentiful again this year!

Annex I habitats that are a primary reason for selection of this site

9130 Asperulo-Fagetum beech forests

East Hampshire Hangers represents Asperulo-Fagetum beech forests in south-east England. The site is extremely rich in terms of vascular plants, including white helleborine Cephalanthera damasonium, violet helleborine Epipactis purpurata, green-flowered helleborine E. phyllanthes and Italian lords-and-ladies Arum italicum. The woods include areas with old pollards on former wood-pasture as well as high forest. There are also transitions to 9180 Tilio-Acerion forests of slopes, screes and ravines.

9180 Tilio-Acerion forests of slopes, screes and ravines * Priority feature

East Hampshire Hangers, with Rook Clift, represents an unusual occurrence of Tilio-Acerion forests in the south of England. It has areas of small-leaved lime Tilia cordata on the steepest parts of the Upper Greensand scarp, associated with low sandstone cliffs and scree slopes, which are locally calcareous. The bryophyte flora is richer than on the chalk examples and includes several species that are rare in the lowlands, such as Campylostelium saxicola, which has its strongest population in England here. The site is ecologically similar to sites selected in the Welsh Borders, despite its geographic location.

No Pigs in My Living Room ...Don't ask... some of the sayings the French Canadians use often elude me. This is one of those. And if you're thinking their name might mean they're vegetarian or Kosher/Halal, think again. They were selling pulled pork sandwiches, among other things.
