Seeking answers to that nagging question, “How were these enormous canyons formed?”, I have at last found evidence to support my long-held hypothesis! Judging by the teeth marks, it is quite obvious that colossal groundhogs chewed their way through solid rock, creating the deep canyons found around the Southwest.
This opinion will likely be lambasted by the scientific community as yet another kooky theory voiced by an amateur knucklehead scientist, but, I ask you, what other conclusion is possible?!
My next step is to search for the culprit, Marmota monaximus.
This photo was taken by a Hasselblad 500C medium format film camera with a Carl Zeiss Planar 1:2.8 f=80mm lens and Zenza Bronica 67mm SY48•2C(Y2) filter using Kodak 400TX film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.
In theory I don't usually bother with light engine moves but never came across a 92 on HS1 during my previous visits so I thought it was worth a go. I didn't realise at the time that the following Monday was the last day of freight on HS1 with the recent contract with presuming Transfesa coming to an end. So the chances of a DB 92 north of Dollands Moor now are really slim. So for the record which I'm glad I made the effort now, sees 92029 working the 0L22 1606 Dollands Moor sidings - Ripple Lane sidings. Funny enough the 92 ended up failing at Singlewell loop, meaning the southbound freight didn't run that evening. Shame they don't seem to be any hope of further freight traffic along here. 19/7/24.

If you are curious about how this image relates to string theory, watch the "Five Flavours of String Theory" (Hour 2, chapter 8) and "Getting To One Theory" (Hour 3, chapter 3) at The Elegant Universe homepage. Available in quicktime and realvideo. The whole Elegant Universe movie is 3 hours (all of it available on the site) and is highly recommended if you're an interested layman.
(If you're in a hurry you can watch only "Getting to One Theory" and skip to 1/3 into the clip)

Pals,
Generally, I tend to argue that Explore is a lottery:
It's nice to win, but it says nothing beyond you had some luck.
Currently, I want to step further and propose a conspiracy theory:
When you post a good photo, you get many views, most of them from people that don't feel obliged to you in any way; they enjoy the photo, but do not bother to fav, needless to say: comment on it.
Result: You get many views, but a low percent of favs and comment.
When you post a 'not so good' photo, most of the people that would view it would be your friends. They, on the other hand, feel obliged to you. They would comment and fav even if the photo is not that great.
Result: You don't get so many views, but high percent of favs and comments.
Bottom line: The Explore algorithm would prefer your less interesting photo, over your better one.
You are invited to look at my two previous posts: one of them was on Explore, and the other was not; and decide for yourself about my devil's theory…
:-)

The Gaia Theory Project
The Gaia Theory Project is a group project presented by the Tanalois Group and the torno Kohime Foundation under the direction of Aloisio Congrejo, Tani Thor and Nino Vichan. It is based on the Gaia Theory of Lovelock and Margulis.
The GAIA Theory Project brings together 11 artists from 7 countries spanning Asia, Europe and North America.
This project is sponsored by a 5 month grant from the Linden Endowment for the Arts.
The sim will be available for public visitations through the month of December 2013.

The Gaia hypothesis, also known as Gaia theory or Gaia principle, proposes that organisms interact with their inorganic surroundings on Earth to form a self-regulating, complex system that contributes to maintaining the conditions for life on the planet. Topics of interest include how the biosphere and the evolution of life forms affect the stability of global temperature, ocean salinity, oxygen in the atmosphere and other environmental variables that affect the habitability of Earth.
The hypothesis was formulated by the scientist James Lovelock and co-developed by the microbiologist Lynn Margulis in the 1970s
