Met I have Giants, with their head reaching the clouds and open arms, on my way back home. Afraid I was, but not for long. Not after I saw that there was nothing to be afraid of those goodhearted Giants. I was to find out that Man was to fear so much more...
TREES
What trees try to say
in their slow silence, their vague murmuring,
the sense they have, there where they are,
the reverence, the resonance, the transparency
and the bright and shadowy accents of an airy phrase.
And the shade and the leaves are the innocence of an idea
that between water and space turned itself to lithe integrity.
Beneath the magic breath of the light they are transparent boats.
I don’t know if it’s air or blood budding from their boughs.
I hear the finest foam of their green throats.
I am not, never will be, far from that pure water
and those ancient lamps of hidden isles.
What pure serenity of memory, what horizons
surrounding the silent well! It is a song in sleep
and the wind and light are the breath of a child
who upon a bough of a tree embraces the world.

This Mama White Tail Deer is taking in the view as its twin fawns wait and do their thing just looking cute while they wait. -
The deer's coat is a reddish-brown in the spring and summer and turns to a grey-brown throughout the fall and winter.
The White Tail Deer can be recognized by the characteristic white underside to its tail. It raises its tail when it is alarmed to warn the predator that it has been detected. An indication of a deer age is the length of the snout and the color of the coat, with older deer tending to have longer snouts and grayer coats.
This was taken in Rockyview County, Alberta, Canada near Cochrane.
Odocoileus virginianus
During the Summer especially when the sprinkler system is on Dragonflies for some reason love these white Echinacea when wet, you can actually see them move their head to the direction of the water,
With their diminutive size (between 6" and 10" tall) and fluffy sleep-sunning, one would never blame you for confusing an Eastern Screech Owl (Megascops asio) as cute. Seriously, look at how adorably it blends in with the tree bark! But that would be foolhardy, especially if you're smaller than a screech owl and look tasty. Unlike the saw-whet owls, whose natural defense is to stand firm on their branches, the screech owl roosts in tree cavities, where it waits out bad weather and daytime. In the cold of winter, you will occasionally find one who has come out of his hole to collect the sun's warmth, as this little one is doing...sunning itself and contemplating its meals? Mouse tartare, perhaps?

I have to wonder if this was the butterfly that Mohamid Ali was referring to when he said "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee"
These beauties really seem to float as they gather around their host plant.
Host plants in my yard: Passiflora Biflora and Corky Stem vine.
Have a beautiful Tuesday, happy snapping.
Cycads are seed plants with a very long fossil history that were formerly more abundant and more diverse than they are today. They have a cylindrical trunk which usually does not branch. Leaves grow directly from the trunk, and typically fall when older, leaving a crown of leaves at the top. The leaves grow in a rosette form, with new foliage emerging from the top and center of the crown. The trunk may be buried, so the leaves appear to be emerging from the ground, so the plant appears to be a basal rosette. The leaves are generally large in proportion to the trunk size, and sometimes even larger than the trunk. The leaves are pinnate (in the form of bird feathers, pinnae), with a central leaf stalk from which parallel ribs emerge from each side of the stalk, perpendicular to it. The leaves are typically either compound (the leaf stalk has leaflets emerging from it as ribs, or have edges (margins) so deeply cut (incised) so as to appear compound. Some species have leaves that are bipinnate, which means the leaflets each have their own subleaflets, growing in the same form on the leaflet as the leaflets grow on the stalk of the leaf (self-similar geometry). 26357
Dipper - Cinclus Cinclus
aka Water Ouzel
Dippers are members of the genus Cinclus in the bird family Cinclidae, named for their bobbing or dipping movements. They are unique among passerines for their ability to dive and swim underwater.
They have a characteristic bobbing motion when perched beside the water, giving them their name. While under water, they are covered by a thin, silvery film of air, due to small bubbles being trapped on the surface of the plumage.
Dippers are found in suitable freshwater habitats in the highlands of the Americas, Europe and Asia. In Africa they are only found in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. They inhabit the banks of fast-moving upland rivers with cold, clear waters, though, outside the breeding season, they may visit lake shores and sea coasts.
The high haemoglobin concentration in their blood gives them a capacity to store oxygen greater than that of other birds, allowing them to remain underwater for thirty seconds or more, whilst their basal metabolic rate is approximately one-third slower than typical terrestrial passerines of similar mass. One small population wintering at a hot spring in Suntar-Khayata Mountains of Siberia feeds underwater when air temperatures drop below −55 °C (−67 °F).
Dippers are completely dependent on fast-flowing rivers with clear water, accessible food and secure nest-sites. They may be threatened by anything that affects these needs such as water pollution, acidification and turbidity caused by erosion. River regulation through the creation of dams and reservoirs, as well as channelization, can degrade and destroy dipper habitat.
Dippers are also sometimes hunted or otherwise persecuted by humans for various reasons. The Cyprus race of the white-throated dipper is extinct. In the Atlas Mountains dippers are claimed to have aphrodisiacal properties. In parts of Scotland and Germany, until the beginning of the 20th century, bounties were paid for killing dippers because of a misguided perception that they were detrimental to fish stocks through predation on the eggs and fry of salmonids.
Population:
UK breeding:
6,200-18,700 pairs
They build their mud nests on cliff faces, bridges, highway overpasses, culverts and under eaves. Their nests are communal, one next to the other. These were under the eaves of a park maintenance building, a challenging lighting situation.
On the far horizon, the setting sun.
Last beams of golden light search their way through the open window. A murmuring brook flows to the song of the birds outside. Wind gently brushes the cherry trees and carries the scent of flowers inside the quiet room. With a deep sigh he lifts his gaze from his graphic tablet, eying his work in a critical manner. Maybe it was time for a break? He turns towards u10. They've been quietly working side by side. It was a comfortable silence between them, that he rarely felt with others. A smile whisks over his face as he watches him.
A moment passes, before he gets up and disappears into the kitchen, only to return with a red fox cup, filled with fruit vinegar. He takes a seat on the edge of u10's pillow, gently he leaning onto him.
"Here.", he almost whispers, while passing the cup to him.
"Asahi-kun." A genuine smile spreads across u10's lips.
"Thank you.", he says accepting the cup. "We should take a break and stretch."
Asahi chuckles and thoughtfully he taps his chin with his index finger. "How about... would you like to watch a movie?"
"Hai!", u10 replies with a hearty laughter.

You are special to me.
Autumn also brings a lot of changes to the birds, and very noticeable is the one on the finches that completely lose their bright yellow plumage to a mix of very dull green-yellowish that makes us to take a second look.
Right now here in PA the rain has started and many trees have lost their leaves, but they still have a unique charm specially at the end of a sunny day. The wind has move from place to place tons of leaves that are forming colorful skirts which now makes it difficult to know from which tree were originally from.
This image had only a white background so I decided to merge a second one with autumn leaves.
Perfect for the autumn mood...

Photography is one of my passions, and nature photography is my favorite.
I have been in Explore for more that a hundred times, and it is an awesome experience to have your photos showcased in such a special way.
I thank your for coming today, for leaving a comment, and make a favorite of yours this photo, (if that is the case) thanks again!
The best part of this forum is the contacts and friends that I have made over the years, that have the same passion for this art that is called photography!

I could not resist posting one more photo of a Female Goldfinch gathering fluff for her nest. The females are still hard at work even though it seems they have been doing it for weeks. They really must be creating the deluxe version of their nests this year :)

Jack-up barge Haven Seajack 1 assembled and waiting for a weather window to go to Fair Isle according to Marine Traffic, I am guessing this will be part of the civil engineering works to determine the best location to build the Fair Isle's first Ro/Ro ferry terminal. This has been directly funded by the UK government by way of their "Levelling Up Fund" The project has been awarded approx. £27,000,000. Some people have commented about the politics of the UK government funding projects in Scotland rather than giving the money to the Scottish government. *This post is not political* It is merely to show the barge and what the reason for it is in Orkney. Fair Isle is the winner, no matter who pays for the work. *Please do not post any political comments - just be happy that the people of Fair Isle are finally going to get served by a Ro/Ro ferry instead of Lo/Lo [lift on/off] for more info see
Jaçanas use their long toes to spread their weight and prevent them from sinking as they walk across the lily pads. The word jaçana is a bird name the Portuguese acquired from the Amazonian Tupi Indians. The alternative name is lily-trotter. Jaçanas are rare among bird species in that it is the male which incubates the eggs and cares for the young. Breeds in wetlands from India to Taiwan.

Thorn, Ash and Oak are their favorite trees
So perhaps you could circle the boughs with these:
Some Foxgloves for thimbles, some Thyme for a treat
Bluebells for their magic and logs for a seat!
Plant Primrose and eat them if you dare by the day
and it is said by the evening you'll glance a few Fey!
Believe in the fairies who make dreams come true.
Believe in the magic from the fairies above,
They dance in the flowers and sing songs of love.
And if you believe and always stay true,
The fairies will be there to watch over you.

So you thought I was done with the Spiders? Ha! No chance. Temporarily I was without them as the usual locations are missing said Spiders due mostly to the change in the weather; but completely by accident I found another location against a different backdrop, these are much harder to photograph as there is no back light, just the night time black of the canal behind the metal railings where these little ones are living, so focus is a challenge even with the assistance of the Focus Illuminator.
Still, I have taken hundreds of new photos and many I will continue to post up here, this Orb Weaver was navigating between two rusted metal bars, against the street lights behind it, gave a really Urban Midnight feel, hope you enjoy!
Here's to another weekend, I hope everyone has a great one and so as always, thank you! :)

Boats Waiting for Their Breath of Adventure
Maybe that’s the magic of mornings like this —
nothing moves, yet everything whispers.
The river, the fog, the wooden boats…
all waiting, patient and calm, ready for the next journey with a fishing rod or a curious child discovering the first secrets of the Korana.
“Their flight was interesting…calm, even rowing of the Phainopepla….occasionally the bird flew in an undecided way, still high and even, but changing their direction but changing their direction in sudden jerks.”

An amazing experience watching this pair feed their chicks recently.
Taken at a public site at a distance so as not to disturb the birds or alter their behaviour.
With their normal lead unit, a BB GP38-2, bad order in need of a new auxi generator, the Dillwyn crew used RF&P GP7 101 on their run to the CSX interchange at Strathmore. The 101 was originally RF&P 104 built in 1953, it was later restored to "RF&P 101:2" by the Old Dominion Chapter of the NRHS, and now runs occasionally on the Buckingham Branch Railroad. Here the crew is passing over the James River on their return trip.
Looks like the bird is trying to contend with a big seed. If I'm not mistaken, they tend to go for smaller seeds due to their small beak and mouth.

There are always people, who only submit their wishlist at the very last minute. But a solution has been found this year. The Santa Claus who takes care of this special delivery(s) has received help from Bat, an old friendly friend, who flies him everywhere to deliver the packages. Bat enjoys it to the fullest, judging by his broad smile.
They both wish you a very relaxed weekend and hope you enjoy the pre-Xmas fun!

I agree with the wishes of the above company. Enjoy and keep smiling;-))

Surely on vacation, they will have to change their name. Well that's what I believe. Maybe they could be called: Dispersions, Escape, Encounters, Variations, Vibrations. Then we would say, I'm going to distractions, or, I'm going to run away, I'm going to meet, I'm going to get vibes, or I'm going to disperse. It may seem stupid, maybe it is ... but if I analyze each of those nouns, they summon reasons that largely determine what a vacation represents. The primary idea of a vacation leads us inexorably to abandon our routines, which greatly overwhelms us throughout the year. But if I have to choose a word that identifies the meaning of a vacation, it is the search for peace. Yes, ... it is there where we think or rather we seek to calm our anxieties, or simply find ourselves.
Example of self-resettlement in California. Oklahoma farm family on highway between Blythe and Indio. Forced by the drought of 1936 to abandon their farm, they set out with their children to drive to California. Picking cotton in Arizona for a day or two at a time gave them enough for food and gas to continue. On this day, they were within a day's travel of their destination, Bakersfield, California. Their car had broken down en route and was abandoned.

On April 30 I had a lovely chat with friendly visitors from space and I even could sneek a peek into their cockpit and take an image of it ! You see the captain of the crew.
Unfortunaltely this space ship was too small for me to hop in myself ... but it was a fun encounter nonetheless !
