relationship between subject and settings

"what goes on inside and outside the frame. It's part of the photographer's vocabulary. The slightest move with this 8 X 10 camera changes everything." - Joel Meyerowitz

I find this quote interesting because if you have ever used a large or medium format camera then you know that the slightest move does change about everything in the frame. With digital and even 35mm there is a sense for taking enough pictures to get that one shot. After which you don’t show the 20 or 50 other pictures that didn’t turn out, you simply show the one. With Meyerowitz and many other large format photographers, the subject of chance is irrelevant. While objects align and moments pause in chance, with the click of the camera the photographer creates this photograph. It is not the alignment of the stars that creates that image nor is it the whimsical mystery of the universe that pushes the button on the camera.

The car and plants were filling the frame

The frame is manoeuvred off a small wagon to its concrete pad.

this picture is a good example of filling the frame because the tire takes up the majority of the frame.

Fitting the Frame - Detail 2

Apparently the frame edge was a little hard to find in the scanner (thank you Walgreen's) but I liked the way this turned out. So there.
