My sister has a Wii, see,
fills us with so much glee.
She said, "To be a star,
you must have an avatar;"
so I became Moses.
Actually, this is supposed to be Charlton Heston as Moses. The story goes - we love to bowl on my sister's Wii and I finally broke down and made an avatar for myself. Since The Ten Commandments is my favorite movie, it was obvious who I should choose to look like. (Other than myself - that's no fun!) When I bowl as Moses, he can't be stopped. He parts the red pins, says things like "Let my pins fall down," and other things from the movie. And best of all, he always wins!

Reference was made in 735 to a monastery at this site, dedicated to the Welsh Saint Tydiwg, or Tadeocus, the Welsh name of the parish, Llandydiwg, and ultimately the name Dixton, deriving from this name. Herring bone masonry in the nave is believed to be part of the original Anglo-Saxon fabric, but most of the church dates from the 12th and 13th Centuries. The north porch and vestry were added in 1824, and a renovation took place in 1861-2. Being on the banks of the Wye, the church is frequently flooded and a new balcony was installed at the rear of the nave to which items can be moved for safety. Brass plaques on the chancel arch record flood levels reached.
Curiously, although in Monmouth, Wales, the parish is in the Church of England. It was transferred to the Diocese of Llandaff in 1844, but on the disestablishment of the Church of England in Wales and establishment of the Church in Wales, the parishioners voted in 1920 to remain with the Church of England and the parish was returned to the Hereford Diocese. Thus it appears in the list of Hereford churches.

Frankly, it'd be more fitting if they'd place it outside a church than at the entrance to the Lakewalk.

"When Moses broke the Tables..."

Boards listing The Ten Commandments. Such boards were used to remind the congregation of religious texts and prayers such as the Apostles' Creed and the Lord's Prayer.
The site has been used for Christian worship from the 8th Century; in the 11th Century a large minster was constructed of which, no trace remains. The current church dates from the 12th Century, with the separate tower added in the 13th; there are seven Herefordshire churches with separate towers, used as fortifications against Welsh border raiders. Restoration and improvement work has continued over the centuries, the latest being the addition of unobtrusive solar roof panels invisible from the ground.
