I was going to sit here an moan on about the fact that I didn't sleep last night due to a sudden unexpected bout of cat aids induced vomiting, but I really can't be bothered to type...

I miss my best friend and I'm lonely.

That is all about all there is to this picture really.

Today marks the end of an incredible journey...........

Okay that sounded cheesy but I really mean it. I started this project 365 days ago, with the intention of just documenting my year. I thought it would be cool to have a photographical diary of sorts, no biggie. Somewhere in this thinking I veered off my original path and starting taking some actual photos. I have learned a lot about photography, technically speaking. I wouldn't say I have learned a lot about myself, because I am pretty well rooted with who I am, but I will say that I have pushed myself to try things that were otherwise outside my little bubble of comfort and with that said, I have surprised myself on several occasions. I really am having a hard time putting into words how I am actually feeling. I am kind of sad that this is over yet I am kind of breathing a sigh of relief and feeling accomplished. I totally finished! One photo every freaking day for the last 365 days. Can I get a big WOOHOO!!!!!

When I started this project, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I just posted photos, I was unaware of what groups were, I had no Flickr friends. I think around day 7, I stumbled upon =TOM='s 365 group and posted my photos there. That is where it all started for me. From there I was introduced to FGR and TRP, then on to TOTW. I really think if it was not for those groups I would of ran out of inspiration and quit this project rather early on. They helped me tremendously.

I have to say that I have met some incredible people here. I am too scared to thank everyone individually for fear that I would forget someone, that would break my heart. I am so thankful to everyone who took a moment out of their day to stop by and check out my photo, and make a comment, cheer me on during the bad times. That has been the fuel on my Flickr fire. I had the honor of actually meeting some of my fellow Flickr-ers in real life and that was one of the highlights of this project. It was so cool to meet up with people that shared the same interests and passions for photography.

I have been stressing all week about what kind of photo to take and what I was going to say, I am just writing this on a whim, and from my heart. After I stressed all month about this shot, I decided to just bust out my smile. It had been an on going joke that i never smile, and the truth is, I can not smile for a photo, I look like a knob. I have been practicing this smile for hours for this photo! So there you have it, a smiley photo for the end of this wonderful project~~

Where do I go from here? I have no idea. I know that i am taking a break for a week for two, and I will decide from there. I am thinking about a 52 weeks, or a 365ish,... we will see!!! I know that it is going to be weird tomorrow not taking a photo!!!!

Well I am off to shower all this paint off of me and get ready to ring in this new year! I hope everyone has a safe and great night!!!!!

PS. Pimpexposure, you promised me 100 bucks for a smile, here it is..................

Change is constant at Lothian Buses, and 2019 is definitely no exception. Here is a small collage of photos taken over the course of the last four days (Monday the 14th to Thursday the 17th) showing the four things that we probably will have to say goodbye to over the next year, as they will most likely be gone by the end of 2019.

Top left:

Volvo 7900 Hybrid number 1 (LB13 BUS) 'Stuart' is seen today on Thursday the 17th of January 2019 operating a service 24 to the RIE.

The 15 Enviro 400 Hybrids were introduced in 2011 with the madder and gold hybrid livery to promote Hybrid buses, followed in 2013 and 2014 by the 50 Volvo 7900 Hybrids who all gained a single deck variation of the hybrid livery, as seen here. From June 2016 to October 2017 the Enviro 400 Hybrids were gradually repainted into Madder and White straight lines, and then in July 2018 Lothian went onto refurbishing and repainting the Volvo 7900 Hybrids into the single deck Glass Staircase Madder and White livery. Roughly half the 7900s still have their original liveries, but they are being repainted at quite a fast rate, so they will presumably all be repainted and refurbished by the summer of this year (2019).

Top right:

Gemini Two 310 (SN09 CUG) 'Great Chimp' is seen on Tuesday the 15th of January 2019 operating a service 31 to Polton Mill. In 2009 (ten years ago now) service 26 received a brand new fleet of Gemini Twos to replace the Tridents that had been on the service until then, and some Gemini Twos were given zoo branding over the next years by public voting, and then in 2015 301-310 were given new zoo branding, as seen here. 310 (SN09 CUG) 'Great Chimp' still retains it's 'Swing Into Africa' zoo branding with Chimps, and the current zoo branding has now been replaced by the (again publicly voted) zoo branding on Gemini Threes 466-495 new in 2017 on service 26. Gemini Twos 301-310 are currently being repainted into the Madder and White Glass Staircase livery and the few remaining with zoo branding are most likely going to be repainted by March 2019 at the latest. I have decided not to change the names I have for them, meaning, for example, that this one I will continue to call 'Great Chimp'. The remaining zoo branded Gemini Twos operate mostly on service 31 from Central.

Lower left:

Trident 684 (SN04 ADV) 'Vi' is seen on Service C134 to King's Buildings on Monday the 14th of January 2019.

Since the first were delivered in 1999 (two decades ago now!) the 200 Alexander Dennis/Transbus Plaxton President bodied Tridents have been a part of Lothian's fleet, but now in 2019, 20 years after they were introduced, only a select few remain in service, with none on weekends and up to five operating on weekdays, with service C134 being the very last Lothian service to still be reliably operated by two Tridents, which will change when the 42 new diesel Enviro 400 XLBs enter service in February, letting the remaining three to five Tridents retire from Lothian. They will be missed, but their polluting Euro 3 diesel engines desperately need to go. It is quite fitting that Tridents have been part of the fleet for 20 years, so goodbye to the Tridents (1999-2019). Almost fifteen year old Trident 684 (SN04 ADV) 'Vi' here is now numerically the oldest Trident left in the active service fleet.

Lower right:

Gemini One 793 (SN56 AET) 'Truth' is seen on Tuesday the 15th of January 2019 operating a service 7 to the RIE.

While they are up to two years newer than the Tridents, our Gemini One B7TLs (701-825) are on their way out too, due to age and emissions (They are by no means 'clean' or 'green' at all). Gemini One 701 (SN55 BJX) 'Isle Of Harris' has been withdrawn, and reportedly been seen in it's playing card themed Harlequin livery, ready for vintage running day on Saturday the 13th of April 2019. This leaves 124 (702-825) B7TLs in service as of 17.01.2019, and they are to be withdrawn over the course of 2019, and hopefully all gone by 2020 at the latest, they are simply far too environmentally damaging to keep in service. I, for one, will miss them, especially number 702 (SN55 BJY) 'Yell Of The Geminis', but they are getting old and dirty and need to go. Gemini One 793 (SN56 AET) 'Truth' has retained it's Transport for Edinburgh logo above the window from 2013, and it's roller blinds.

White on black roller blinds are a well known feature of Lothian's fleet, but despite their long history, roller blinds are being phased out, which means that the only major operator on this island still using roller blinds would be TfL in London, who are also considering replacing theirs with LED screens. Roller blinds will be missed by many, but in January 2019 a large proportion of the fleet still retain their original roller blinds, for how much longer? They could well be gone before 2020 (next year).

Okay, that's five things, but the Madder and Gold Hybrid livery, the Zoo branded Gemini Twos, the B7TLs, roller blinds and, of course, the Tridents are all nearing the end of their time. 2019 will most likely bring a lot of changes to Lothian, and these are just a few of them.

The end. Thank you all so much for your encouragement. <3

365 - The 2010 Edition * December 31, 2010

Well - if you were expecting some kind of big, flashy finish, with balloons and confetti - either you don't know me very well - or you got here too early. We're going out to a local club with friends to ring in the new year - not exactly my cup of tea - but after a year of putting up with the time hog I call my "365" - I could hardly say no to Jo Ann, could I? (that's a rhetorical question..) Of course not... So - there still could be balloons and confetti in our immediate future, but they probably won't be in any pictures. I'm going to close my 365 project with this deceptively difficult, and marginally interesting image of myself balancing on a slippery rail, using a leaf for balance in the same way that Dumbo used his feather to convince himself that he could fly...

I started the project on a lark, egged on by certain parties who's real names shall be omitted - but they know who they are - right Amy? I had followed a few friends' 365's and I always loved knowing that they would be there every day. And I thought I understood how hard that might be - to come up with a little something every day - but I was wrong.. Like balancing on a slippery railroad rail - it's a LOT harder than it looks... Some days, it was easy - I couldn't wait to spill my guts about something that was bothering me - or that I wanted to share with y'all. But some days, I really, really, just wanted to go to bed, pull the covers up, and hope tomorrow would be a better day...

But I sucked it up, and posted something anyway.. I think I only called one or two "Mulligans" - days when what I posted sucked royally - and I said so. And considering how few days I was really inspired - I think that's a pretty good average.. 365 photos with at least some part of myself in the photo - and 365 descriptions which turned out to reveal more about myself than the pictures did.. I deeply appreciate everyone who at least stopped by from time to time to see what I was up to. But if it weren't for a few truly devoted friends who came by nearly every day, and offered a word of encouragement - a laugh - or a thoughtful disagreement - I'm quite sure I would have given up a long time ago..

I'm not gonna name any names *here* either - you know who you are, right Mind Meld? I don't need to name names, do I Tara? Lady Margaret, Darren, M-C1, Mona, Marybeth, Preston, DaniGirl, Krista, Bill, Sparkleplenty, Anna, Heather, Catkleine, Robin, Leslie, Catmarie.... Hmmm... This is going to be trouble, isn't it? I'm going to leave some of my friends out and hurt their feelings, ain't I Daynna? I'm going to forget to mention Steve, and he's gonna get his underwear all up in a bunch - or Eva - just because she's been out of the country for a while.. Or Jennie, because she's all up in Tennessee somewhere, and can't get a signal..

But of course, the one person that really have to thank the most, is my sweet Jo Ann, who put up with far too many nights alone on the couch while I labored to come up with something - anything to post.. Thank you Sweetie-Pie - I love you!

Thanks y'all - I've had a lot of fun - but now it's time to see what's up around the bend...

You can't quite tell but the river beside me has the bluest water i've ever seen, it's so pretty.

And finally this project is over. I was excited to begin with but as time progressed I found that instead of taking photo's for me I was taking photo's just to make it through the week and there were a few times where I wanted to quit, but ultimately i'm glad I kept to it and finished it. But anyway I do feel like my relationship with my sister; Gemma has gotten a lot stronger through getting her to model for me, often forcing her to do so because she wasn't as keen to go out exploring as I was haha.

Finally this year I was able to take photography as a class at school which I feel helped develop my personal taste towards photography.

I did managed to find some great hidden locations in my rural town ( not even sure it qualifies as a town it's so small haha) that I never knew existed, I realized the place is actually quite picturesque, more than it's given credit for.

I don't quite feel like i've come out of this project any better than before really, I hope to further develop my personal style, I hope to get to the stage where people can look at my photographs and instantly know thats it's my work. But a huge thank you everyone that viewed, favourited or left lovely comments on my work. It made it more worth it knowing there are people who do like what I do so yeah. This whole post seems on a down note but no i'm happy i've completed this and glad with some of the photos I took, I was a good learning experience if nothing else.

MARRIOTTSVILLE — The stucco building was the first that trespassers would see when they climbed up the paved road to the former Henryton State Hospital.

By the end of Monday, it was mostly destroyed, as workers from Retro Environmental tore down the building in full body suits with respirators, due to asbestos and lead paint.

In the last two years, Henryton State Hospital has been slated on the state’s capital budget to remove asbestos and raze the building. The schedule for the Maryland Department of General Services originally showed that the buildings were to be demolished in May 2014, according to testimony from the FY13 capital budget proposal.

Recent fires and emergency calls pushed the Department of General Services to act, Assistant Secretary Bart Thomas said.

The project was originally approved for about $3.05 million, though Thomas said it will cost a little over $4 million. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of September.

There are 19 remaining buildings, of which five are considered small structures like garages and cottages. Last week the construction crew took out the indoor pool.

Dave Muir, project manager for Retro Environmental, said four of the buildings are riddled with asbestos and will have to be taken to a landfill that is permitted to take asbestos waste.

“This building is destined to Pennsylvania,” he said, pointing at building No. 1, the oldest of all the buildings on the Henryton campus.

The rest of the buildings will be torn down and the crew will try to recycle as much as possible, he said.

The biggest problem with demolishing the property isn’t the asbestos — it’s the remote location. Without access to public water or electricity, the construction crew must bring in water tankards and generators, he said.

“As far as the demolition project goes, it’s really a piece of cake. It’s no big deal,” Muir said.

Trespassers still enter the property, which has caused issues for the construction crew. Graffiti on another building marks the date a vandal was at the building, May 24, 2013.

A truck which holds equipment was spray painted over the weekend with the phrase, “Get out of my house.”

There is security around the clock now, and Thomas said lights have been installed on the demolition site. Thomas said he hasn’t had any phone calls from people complaining about destroying the property.

“Kids are going to do what kids are going to do,” Thomas said.

Exploring Henryton is practically a rite of passage for Liberty High School students, which is how Amy McGovern said she was first introduced to the former state hospital. Three years ago, her daughter found it with her friends, and took McGovern to the property. McGovern and her husband are self-described urban explorers, she said.

“We go to any abandoned building legally or not legally,” she said.

McGovern, of Eldersburg, said she’s been contacting the state to learn more about the history of the building since she first discovered it. McGovern is interested in the stories that were lost from the facility’s closing, which shuttered its doors in 1985.

Over the years, she’s looked into the state archives in Annapolis for clues about how people lived at Henryton State Hospital.

The hospital was established as a Maryland Tuberculosis Sanatorium for African-Americans in 1918. Later, it was converted to a hospital for the mentally ill. It was designed in 1962 to treat a maximum of 400 patients, according to Maryland State Archives.

As public perception of mental health facilities moved toward promoting outpatient care, the facility lost patients.

McGovern is documenting the demolition for a book she’s going to give to the state about the property, she said. It will have a detailed history of the property and photos throughout the years.

McGovern said she’s befriended an 83-year-old neighbor to the property, who will tell her stories of what the property was like as a mental hospital.

“Nobody else cared about this place,” McGovern said.

Del. Susan Krebs, R–District 9B, has fought to have something happen with the property since she first came into office 10 years ago, she said. Initially, she wanted the property redeveloped. It was put on hold for a number of years, which is when the property became vandalized more frequently.

At one point the Department of Natural Resources was interested in using it for its headquarters, but as the economy worsened, so did Henryton’s chances of being redeveloped.

“That’s why it’s taken quite a period of time,” she said. “After a while it just becomes so unsafe you have to do something.”

Brett Pearce, the deputy chief of the Sykesville fire company, said after a fire in March that in the last 10 years there have been more than 70 calls to the property for anything from fires to assaults and drug overdoses.

The property will be reincorporated to the Patapsco Valley State Park, which surrounds it, Thomas said. Grass will be planted over where the current buildings rest, and it will become a part of nature again.
