Such diabolical weather that there is nothing for it but to retreat to the fireside ... and to eat :-)

Thanks for the times that you've given me

The memories are all in my mind

And now that we've come to the end of our rainbow

There's something I must say out loud

You're once, twice, three times a lady

And I love you...

At one point during its heyday, Whiting Bros had over 100 service stations, some with cafes and motels...today, only one still exists on Route 66 in Moriarty, New Mexico...In 1952 Rt 66 was realigned, and this stretch of I-40 in Yucca, Az. saved vehicles from the windy road up to Oatman...

Just a fun grab. The past two weeks have been full of treats and meeting old friends. And yesterday provided another reminder of old friends and spurred me into a break from essay writing and more naughty treats. And I needed some colour in life too. The scones here are hard to beat! :-D

This two story home located in Miami's historical Coconut Grove neighborhood was built in 1925 and is owned by the nearby Plymouth Congregational Church. (Note: the Property Appraiser's office has it listed as one story but obviously the photo here shows two stories.)

Coconut Grove, also known colloquially as The Grove, is the oldest continuously inhabited neighborhood of Miami in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The neighborhood is roughly bound by North Prospect Drive to the south, LeJeune Road to the west, South Dixie Highway (US 1) and Rickenbacker Causeway to the north, and Biscayne Bay to the east. It is south of the neighborhoods of Brickell and The Roads and east of Coral Gables. The neighborhood's name has been sometimes spelled "Cocoanut Grove" but the definitive spelling "Coconut Grove" was established when the city was incorporated in 1919.

What is today referred to as Coconut Grove was formed in 1925 when the city of Miami annexed two areas of about equal size, the city of Coconut Grove and most of the town of Silver Bluff. Coconut Grove approximately corresponds to the same area as the 33133 ZIP Code although the ZIP Code includes parts of Coral Way and Coral Gables and a small portion of ZIP Code 33129. The area is often referred to as "The Grove" and many locals take pride that Coconut Grove is one of the greenest areas of Miami.

Coconut Grove is directly served by the Miami Metrorail at Coconut Grove and Douglas Road stations.

Several waves of immigration established Coconut Grove, the first in 1825, when the Cape Florida lighthouse went into operation and was manned by John Dubose. Dr. Horace P. Porter is credited for coming up with the name when in 1873 he rented a home from Edmond D. Beasley's widow, who homesteaded 160 acres of bay front property. He lived there for only a year but during that time he established a post office which he named Coconut Grove. Around the same time the area saw an influx of Americans from the Northeastern US, as well as British and white Bahamian immigrants. The first hotel on the South Florida mainland was located in Coconut Grove. Called the Bay View Inn (later known as the Peacock Inn), it was built in 1882, on the site of present-day Peacock Park, by English immigrants Isabella and Charles Peacock, who had been the owner of a wholesale meat business in London. Coconut Grove's first black settlement, in the 1880s, was established by Bahamian laborers who worked at the Peacock Inn. The Barnacle Historic State Park is the oldest house in Miami-Dade County still standing in its original location. It was built in 1891 and was home to Ralph Middleton Munroe, also known as "The Commodore" for being the first commodore and founder of the Biscayne Bay Yacht Club, an American yacht designer and early resident of Coconut Grove.

Formerly an independent city, Coconut Grove was annexed by the city of Miami in 1925. In the 1960s, bay-shore Coconut Grove served as the center of South Florida's youth countercultural movement, notably hosting several love-ins and concerts (including a now-infamous Doors concert at Dinner Key Auditorium) during the latter part of the decade. The bohemian community continued to grow in Coconut Grove through the 1970s.

A surge of commercial development in Coconut Grove was driven by the construction of three major residential complexes during the late 1970s and early 1980s: Yacht Harbour Condominiums in 1975; Grove Isle, a condominium, club and hotel complex, in 1979; and L'Hermitage in 1980. This was followed with the opening of 2575 S. Bayshore Drive in 1982 and the 1983 opening of Grove Towers. Further development was proposed for Grove Isle in 2013.

Had a great time catching up with family and friends in Weston-Super-Mare yesterday. The strawberry sundae started out by being shared among three of our party, but I think all 7 of us dipped into it at the end.

... (or rather food) by the Irish weather!!!

Those of you not lucky enough to live in this wee emerald isle will not understand why our grass is so green here! Oodles and oodles of lovely dark grey clouds and RAIN!!!

There was a Crème Brûlée sitting waiting here so I ran out of patience trying to capture the light on both wrappers and their reflections ..I know ..pathetic excuse.

And I think I should crop this one ...ah well it is too wet to concentrate..Lol!

Inspired by Rodney's wee image in the same place which I can't find but here is the link to his deLIGHTful stream www.flickr.com/photos/22246849@N02/ which is full of light.

...it's Friday Night Photos of Love, my friends...share your joys, your dreams with the one you love...make their life worth living for.

...here's Three Times A Lady by the Commadores

...this is the beginning of the Valentine's weekend, and hope you have a wonderful, loving weekend, my friends...I had to begin it with this, my first attempt at selective coloring. I caught a heck of a cold when we were in L.A. last weekend...its a good thing I'm on track break this week and next...lololol. :~}

This Roaring-Twenties built property, in the Cathedral Hill District just north of the biggest mansions on Summit Avenue, has attracted my attention in the past. But now, as the home of a new Art Deco, Jazz Era Bar and Restaurant, it has become irresistible, with its glamorous, eye-popping and optical illusion-inducing decor, and its historical associations with F. Scott Fitzgerald, Sinclair Lewis, speakeasies and gangsters. Above the restaurant and bar are condos, which long ago replaced the original residential hotel.

The 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon.

Just don't call it a "Citation".

I feel it was questionable planning on behalf of Olds' marketing team to name the base Cutlass model (of this generation) the "Salon". How many men, regardless of walk of life, did Olds think would want to drive something called a "Salon"? Granted, some dudes were getting perms back then, but you have to see my point.

As spotted from the Metra commuter rail on my way back from a job interview out in the western Chicago suburbs. If it wasn't literally zero degrees outside yesterday, I might have hopped off the train for some better quality shots before the next train arrived a half-hour later.
