*We are now officially done "taking over" City Shine.

Happy 56th birthday, Barbie! Madonna got nothing on you.

Finally found the doll worthy enough to take on the Wonder Woman mantle. A Barbie with a long black hair cape, blue eyes, and a powerful face isn't easy to find but the search was worth it! She's the stunner of the whole collection... for now. I love!

Today 1/1/2013 marks my 45,000th view on Flickr. To some that's not very much, but to me, it's amazing!!!!

Little did I know when I started collecting and photographing my dolls back in '98, that there were so many people out there just like me!!

I am so inspired and amazed by the talent that's out there, not just the Barbie collectors like me, but all of the doll collectors and lovers period.

Thank you so much for all of your support and kind words--- it means a lot to a person such as myself, who people chuckled at (and still do), when they find out that I still "play" Barbie.

You are all the best and don't let anyone else tell you differently!!!

Lots of love and keep on "playing"!!!

Happy New Year!

It’s that time of the year again! I’ve been in Barbie land lately with the abundance of dolls recently released by Barbie Collector. So, it’s time for a group shot once again. First is Black and White Collection™ Beaded Gown. The doll I’ve been looking forward to since the year started and she has finally arrived. Another doll who I’m looking forward to is 2013 Holiday Barbie™ African-American. The first Holiday doll to have the new Pazette mold. Love the way she is styled and surprisingly I am loving her gown. Another doll who I think will fit in my collection if redressed is Global Glamour™ Collection Tribal Beauty™ who has the Pazette mold as well. I would love to give her bangs based from the edited pic I did a while back. I haven’t bought ANY of The Barbie Look™ City Shopper™ Dolls yet, but will eventually get them maybe one doll each month. City Shopper™ AA Mbili for sure have been on my radar from the get go as seeing her with a long hair was an improvement from her short haired Basics 2.0 version. Although I’m not sure of the highlights on her hair. They are too precise which look like a striped pattern. Wasn't a fan of City Shopper™ Blonde Steffie’s hair from the start either. Maybe because I don’t like it when Steffies show their foreheads so I’m planning on restyling her hair. Speaking of so-so hair, City Shopper™ Brunette Mackie, although refreshing to see brunette… not sure of her hairstyle as well. The one I’m excited about, except for her shoes, is City Shopper™ Blonde Lara because I recently found out that even though her prototype has the Basics 2.0 Model No. 2 Lara face design on the promos, her production version actually has the Basics 1.0 Lara face design which was the same case for Basics Target Red Model No. 2 AA Lara. The 1.0 Lara face design was miles better than the 2.0 face design. Okay... Moving on. The mystery articulated Kens that I’ve been anticipating since last year were finally revealed and they are the Texas A&M University Ken® Dolls. I’m actually happy that they are at least cheerleaders and not fantasy dolls because they can be easily redressed (and undressed:D) and for their price they’re not that far from their Basics versions so they are total must-haves especially AA Ken as this is the first time we see him articulated. Definitely over the moon! And finally, Malibu Barbie® Doll By Trina Turk who I fell in love with the moment I saw her promos. She really is a dream doll for me as I’ve been wanting Malibu Barbie® to be revisited and to be given an update. I wanted to make my own in the form of Pink In Pantone® Barbie® in TBL’s Poolside Fashion but an official Mattel release was more than I could ever imagine. Another doll in swimsuit? Well hello, It’s Malibu Barbie®!

UPDATED: 11/23/13

Here's the second half of the dolls on my expanding Wishlist for this year. I really liked Stephen Burrows Alazne™ Barbie®, and I still do despite the fact that she doesn't have any rooted hair or flocking, or even if she has a disappointing hole in her head. She still has the pontential, and a makeover is in order for her. One of the big surprises this year is Coach Barbie®. I can see firsthand the amount of detail that went into making this doll and I'm glad I was able to get her before she sold out. This year Barbie Collector offered yet another K Mart Exclusive. A red haired version of the 2013 Holiday Barbie™ and I think she looks exceptional! One of the fiercest Barbies of the year is The Blonds Blond Gold Barbie®. This must-have doll is a follow up to last year's doll from the designer duo. A no-brainer. She's coming home with me! Now I'm not really a fan of celebrity or Hollywood themed dolls, in fact there's really no place for them in my collection until... Jennifer Lopez Red Carpet! I'm really impressed by Mattel for making an effort to create a face sculpt in her likeness. Despite what people's perception is of this doll, I really think that Mattel nailed it. I think the face is spot on! Just when I thought no more Kens will be released this year, Mattel released two more (not to mention articulated) male dolls, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Finnick and Peeta. I do think the dolls from the movie franchise has set a landmark for Hollywood themed dolls at Barbie Collector by giving them new face sculpts. In the past, BC would use pre-existing sculpts and would usually do a face paint trick that left their celeb dolls disappointing. BC has turned up the volume and did exceptional this year... And speaking of exceptional, Hervé Léger by Max Azria Barbie® has won me over by her edgy styling and winner accessories! A doll that was meant to be redredressed, she comes with another set of ensemble in a black and white jacquard dress. An homage to Barbie's signature bathing suit from her debut in 1959. Of course I'm also over-the-moon by her bleached-eyebrows! She is truly one fierce Barbie and I can't wait to have her in my hands.

Now it’s time for the #TheBarbieLook review! I think each of the dolls deserves their own individual evaluation, and my first one is Urban Jungle. First of all… Isn’t it great that these dolls now have creative names? Um, finally! So The Barbie Look was a line which pays homage to Barbie’s heritage, so the original idea was all about the fashions that Barbie has in her closet and the little accessories that goes along with them, something reminiscent of Barbie in the 60s but with a modern twist. Each fashion packs from the collection tells a story. But somehow that concept stirred on a different direction. It then became all about glamour and cocktail dresses and red carpet gowns. This time the dolls are taking inspiration from Barbie’s style feed on Instagram @BarbieStyle where she is featured in various settings and destinations. With this latest installment for 2016, the collection sort of went back to how it started. Each of the dolls has their own theme and has their own story. Urban Jungle is all about the edgy street look. She is wearing a bodysuit with a lace trim which is actually very sexy as the back is exposed, a printed pencil skirt with a high slit at the back, and a faux leather jacket which is actually fully lined. All of the fashion pieces are separate and with snap closures. She also comes with this new molded necklace that I love, a clutch purse that doesn’t open but still cute nonetheless, a pair of glasses, a coffee cup, a “magazine” and a pair of trendy buckled ankle boots.

What really sold me were the articulated bodies that the dolls have which is something that I have been anticipating for a long time now. These are the same body combo used for Barbie Basics 2.5 with the Fashionista arms and non-articulated chest. Now, this is actually the articulated version that I prefer. Since the articulated Harley Ken body doesn’t have the joint on the chest, I don’t mind that there is none for the female body. What I like about it is that they have this rib definition that you don’t see on the torso with the articulated chest. I also like the Fashionistas upper arms more because the dolls look healthier and not as emaciated compared to the skeletal upper arms that the Pivotal/articulated body originally had. Yes they had better movement but they were not aesthetically pleasing.

Urban Jungle features a new face sculpt called Millie which has been the quintessential face for Barbie on Instagram. It seems like Barbie doesn’t really age. She looks so young like she just came out fresh from the fountain of youth! Now I don’t mind this sculpt, which is marked 2015 at the back by the way, but my issue is that the paint screening they used is very similar to Playline. Comparing her to my other Collector Barbies, I feel like she doesn’t fit in. They could have designed a new face screening for her with smaller eyes and with Collector level paint. This is really the moment when Playline and Collector have no barrier just like the Top Model line from years ago. This particular doll is like a mash-up of those two divisions. I will be receiving the other two dolls in the series in a few days and I’m hoping that their face screenings are much better than Urban Jungle. Because she looks like she’s 14, I think the Fashionistas or the Made To Move body would be better for her. She has the Nuetra skin tone. It is a little bit darker compared to how the skin tone was a few years ago but I bought another Urban Jungle and I have my Barbie Basics 2.0 Model 1 have her body and I think the match is perfect. There's a slight difference in color with her head and the body, but it works. Not noticeable at all.

First of all, I am a Barbie Girl. There, I said it, and I am not ashamed of it. I have loved you for longer than I can remember. I know that we've had our ups and downs, but my feelings have never changed throughout the years.

Sure, there have been other fashion dolls that have crossed my path that I've really liked, but they could never, ever, take your place in my heart. I know that you can be glittery and show-offy and overwhelmingly ruffled and pink from time to time (who needs a new Dream House every other year, for goodness sakes, and PINK at that??), but that's one of the reasons why I care - you know what you like and you go for it, no matter what anyone thinks or says.

Many times I have even threatened to walk away and not collect you any more, but you knew that it was a front - where would I go? Who would I collect? You and only you......

You created the path for others to walk in - without you, would there even be any other fashion dolls? I think not! I know that others are in line ready to steal your crown (and probably already have), but you still stand alone to me.

So, that being said, I would like to thank you for bringing me so much joy for too many years to count and also for inspiring "A Billion Dreams".

Love you girl!!!

You better have your A game ready before stepping to these girls!

One of my goals this year was to be able to acquire the Platinum Label Black and White Collection™ Beaded Gown Barbie® Doll and luckily after 43 grueling minutes of manning the computer, I got her! The reason I wanted this doll, aside from it being a Platinum Label, was the fact that I like her make-up palette with the smokey eyes and nude lips. The doll comes with a dramatic detachable pleated white train adorned with shimmery silvery sequins and black beads. She has black peep-toe pumps which is a similar shoe mold to Pinch of Platinum Barbie. She also comes with earrings previously used for Barbie as Heidi Klum and 50th Anniversary Barbie. A plastic, cheaper version of the metal jewelries used for BFMC Stunning In The Spotlight silkstone doll. She also comes with a cuff bracelet that was previously used for the Tim Gunn Collection and Dynasty Alexis doll and to finish her look, she comes with a black faux leather clutch that was not shown in the promos, which I think is a nice surprise. I wanted this doll knowing that I am not completely sold on her look, BUT what’s great is that I can always restyle her. Where the doll falls flat was the choice of jewelries. Because of the pleating of the train of her dress, it reminded me of Art Deco. I would have been over the moon with this doll if she was properly styled. I am thinking of a Greek inspired Art Deco earrings and bangle or cuff bracelet. I would have also liked if her hair was sleeked back, kind of a wet look to show off those earrings and her gorgeous face. I think that the embelishment on her belt is unecessary. I still do not understand what it is. They could have made more effort designing new jewelry molds than coming up with the design of that belt embelishment that doesn't make much sense. With that being said, I still think the doll is gorgeous in person and looks better outside the box. I also need to point out that Mattel has finally listened to the feedbacks. I do not feel any signs of glue inside the doll head. It is squishy like it’s supposed to be. There’s no cracking sound that I hear whenever I squeeze the head. The hair is not attached on a dreadful sewn-on plastic strip that has ruined my Basics dolls hair. Her hair is a soft and smooth good quality saran hair. They have also taken the time to wrap the doll’s body in plastic to avoid staining from its black dress. My only concern is…Is this a sign that Collector dolls’ quality are finally getting better? Or… Do we have to shell out $85 just so we can get a better quality Collector doll?

Setting up the patio for tomorrow and dressing doll finally got around to TBL Curvy!

Outfit - single pack fashion (looks like the blue bleed onto some of the white!)

I’ve been meaning to post this before the year ends but with a work schedule like mine, I only got a chance to do it right now. Again, I’m doing two “Top Five” every year, one for Barbie and for Integrity.

Who are your Top Five Dolls of 2013? Remember, it doesn’t have to be dolls from just one company or brand. You can totally mix it up. Consider yourself tagged if you see this post.

See last year's Top Five here.

See Top Five Integrity Dolls of 2013 here.

The Barbie Look City Shopper Blonde Lara - I’m not a major fan of open mouth smiles but Lara is always an exception. I love a blonde Lara with a neutral make-up palette and I think this doll looks chic with her styling. Totally love the dress and the black tights.

Texas A&M University African-American Ken - One of my most anticipated dolls of 2013. It’s about time we get an articulated AA Ken! And as some of you may know, the Basics Model 17 sculpt is one of my favorite contemporary Barbie sculpts and I’m glad to see it this year.

Hervé Léger by Max Azria Barbie - Perfection! Love everything about this doll. I think this is one collector Barbie of 2013 with the most play value as she comes with stunning fashions and accessories to mix and match. My top favorite for sure. You can’t go wrong with a Louboutin face sculpt… and bleached eyebrows. Fierce! Just fierce!:D

The Barbie Look City Shopper African-American Mbili - Has anyone noticed? No Barbie with the Mbili sculpt was released this year from Barbie Collector except for this one (technically a 2012 release). The Pazette sculpt has taken over which is good. It’s time for Mbili to have a little break. I love her style and that sweater dress.

Black and White Collection Beaded Gown Barbie - Probably an underdog. Yes her dress had us confused. May not have been the best when it comes to styling. May not have lived up to everyone’s expectations after Robert Bests’ Precious Metals Collection ended, but the doll itself is gorgeous. Yet again, another quintessential Barbie but this one stands out with her lovely smokey eyes, her nude lips and her thick eyebrows. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that she turned out to be one of the best this year. I love how the dress looks once displayed.

The girls headed for the beach.

Quote from the Barbie Basics Collection 001 box.

A lot of people were inspired by Jeremy Scott's Moschino Spring show, and have been dressing their dolls in pink. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and we are also supportive of that as well.

The first wave of The Barbie Look Collection will be available on BC.com on 11/15/2012.

Let me tell you I'm not ready for this. Too early and I don't have a budget. Hopefully I will get the entire collection including the closet by January.

These are the four Fashion packs for the Spring collection, as you all know. The must-have, and I'm predicting the best seller is the Tea Party pack. Too cute to pass! I also love the headband. Pink On The Green golf pack is also adorbs! I love that she's doing a tip-toe.:D Although the Poolside swimsuit is too similar to the Basics 3.0 Model No. 5 swimsuit, I think it's still worth getting because of the accessories it comes with. The glasses, the fan and her sheer robe. I'll probably just hide the straps to make it different. Now On The Red Carpet is probably the only pack I'm skeptical about. The dress is way too similar from Go Red For Women Barbie and E! Live Barbie dresses. Like enough already!:D Thanks to this promo shot, I now think it looks great...And because I'm a fan of this line, I will be getting the entire set.

All images are owned by Mattel. Edit by me.

… And finally we have Sweet Tea to cap off #TheBarbieLook review! Isn’t she adorable? This is my first Barbie with the Karl sculpt and I’m gonna have to say she’s my favorite of the three. Instant fave! In case you’re still wondering, yes she has Collector quality face paint screening unlike Urban Jungle. Her eyes seem bigger because her irises are painted bigger which gives her that doe-eyed look. I love that they got rid of the rooted lashes in exchange for articulation. Thank god. They’re messy, they ruin the face paint and they’re just distracting anyways. No Bueno. Unless the factory has good quality control then the lashes are fine by me but they don’t. As you can see I really got a good copy here, only that the white paint on her eye is bleeding to her left iris. Something minor. But you know me. I’m obsessed with finding a doll with the perfect face paint. I’ve seen some comments of other people not liking the doll because they got one that seemed cross-eyed. By now you know that’s not the case for every Sweet Tea. I’ve noticed on some IRL pictures that some of them have eyes too close together. I believe this has something to do with the screening process at the factory. The method I’m familiar with is the face mask method with spray paint which works like a stencil. Sometimes the eyes seemed like they’re squashed together which distorts the original shape of the color blocks. One of the three Night Out dolls I got has this case and I might do a comparison pic to show you what I’m talking about. I believe if the face mask method was used, the distortion of the face paint is unlikely to happen with these dolls. So I’m guessing they have a different way of painting the dolls’ faces at Mattel.

I feel like Sweet Tea could have been a little bit edgy when it came to fashion choices. I like the floral print skirt. The fabric is that stiff material that doesn’t snag which is a good thing. What I’m not a fan of is the landing strip of ruffles on her blouse. I feel that that it makes her look outdated. Maybe a plain cropped top showing a little bit of her midriff would have elevated her look. Kind of like the cropped tops Barbie is wearing on her Instagram. This is fashion but it’s not fashion forward in my book. I really love the shoes which are the same shoes that came with Pink in Pantone Barbie but without the 219C embossed on them. This is the first time they’re reusing the shoe sculpt which I have been waiting for ages. She comes with a faux croc white handbag. I love that it’s actually made of fabric to put tiny accessories in there. She also comes with a tea set and a “menu”. Sweet Tea looks like a perfect match to the Tea Party fashion pack that came from The Barbie Look debut collection.

I actually think that the hairstyle is not that bad. I wouldn’t necessarily go for dolls with bangs like this. This is like circa 1993-94. The bangs I prefer are full like Urban Jungle’s. I can see her with full bangs but with a short bob a la Anna Wintour. Again that would have elevated her look and would have made her chic.

I believe Sweet Tea has the Nostalgic skin tone. But like the other dolls from this Collection, their skin tones don’t match the dolls produced from three or four years ago. Sweet Tea is pale compared to the dolls with the Nostalgic skin tone from 2009-2011 which were pinkish in tone like Barbie Basics Model 14 Louboutin. The dolls that matches her skin tone are Insurgent Tris and TBL City Shine Lea with the red top. I’m really bummed out that I can’t rebody my Basics due to the skin tone change. Also if you notice she has black toe nail polish. Why? I don’t get it.

That’s all.

The Louboutin's would like to wish all of our friends a very Happy New Year!! <3<3

I think it is pretty safe to say these are my favorite 2013 dolls I have purchased. I doubled this photo as the favorite 2013 dolls tag game (late) and my promotional photo-shoot for Gossip. I am going to use them in my mini series I will be doing soon. It will put my series "The Young and the Plastic" on the backburner for now but I just cannot help it, I love these dolls! Oh, also the crew is wearing black and silver because they were all headed to a new years party that had a silver/black dresscode. I just love those colors together!

Starting L-R on the top row:

Ayla Brown: (Birthstone Beauty Topaz) I was lucky enough to find this girl at a thrift store for $2.50 in her original dress. I think she is adorable! I especially love her now that I gave her a hair treatment.

JLaw: (Katniss Everdeen;Catching Fire) She and Finnick came together a few days ago. I love her looks especially now that she is on a pivotal body, she looks very high fashion to me. I think she is going to become one of my favorite characters soon.

Sam "Finnick": (Finnick: Catching Fire) This guy is just so handsome. I do not see a huge resemblance to Samuel Claflin the actor who portrays Finnick but there are some close facial similarities. He most definitely looks like a sculpted male model so he will be fun to work with.

Jourdan Dunn: ( 2013 AA Holiday Barbie) Well this is my first Pazette mold and she is perfect. I love her eyes, her hair, her cheekbones. She is a dream to photograph! She was one of my dream dolls and I was lucky enough to locate her in my area after searching several stores. It is hard to keep the African American dolls in stock in my area so I really get excited they are available!

Lindsay Ellington: (The Barbie Look: City Shopper Lara) Ok, so this lady was another one of my 2013 dream dolls! Lara sculpts are gorgeous in my opinion and this one was exactly what wanted. I had to buy her online because our stores within a fifty mile radius only had the Steffie from the first collection. I immediately knew she was going to be my Citrus Obsession Lara's (Viveca Ellington) sister so Lindsays name is kind of a play on words. She reminds me of the model Lindsay Ellingson so she was named Lindsay but Viveca's last name was already Ellington so I simply switched the S to a T so she fit in nicely.

Erin: (2013 Holiday Barbie) I scored majorly again at a thrift store finding this girl in her original gown for $2.50. I get very excited finding any model muse dolls in these stores. I thought she was cute and had potential when I bought her but it wasn't until recently that I fell in love with her. I switched her to a basic model muse body, restyled her hair, and switched up her wardrobe and now I can't photograph her enough lol.

Front Row:

Kingston: (Peeta Mellark : Catching Fire) I knew this guy had to be the first Catching Fire doll I purchased. I love that he doesn't always look like Josh Hutcherson (don't get me wrong, I think he is attractive and all) because it gives me a window for a whole new personality and storyline for him. Certain ways you style this guy he really looks like Josh, other times he only faintly resembles the actor he portrays.

Play along if you wish! Just photograph your fave 2013 dolls!

I haven't posted much in a while, but I certainly haven't curtailed my doll buying! Here is the proof!

Tagged by dollsociety, This was so difficult!! I'm not even sure if this really my top 5 lol I started collecting this year and all of my dolls are special to me :p I was fighting daylight for this pic so I'm not totally happy with it, but this tag is so fun I wanted to participate.

From left to right,

1 Barbie Basics Mackie target edition

I've had so much fun coloring this girls hair, and she looks good in anything I put her in.

2 Barbie Basics swimwear Louboutin

This was the first girl I customized, and I love the gorgeous Latina vibe she gives off

3 So In Style Grace

She was a random impulse buy but grew to be one of my favorites. I love her dark skin and bright youthful eyes

4 Barbie Basics LBD Steffie

The first barbie I ever bought, she started the collection and I still find her so adorable ^^

5 The Barbie look city shopper Lara

She's just gorgeous, and the outfit she came in was perfect. She's so easy to photograph and always looks great.

I now have 5 FR dolls so I'm going to take one of them soon

More girls that weren't used in the "Spring Has Sprung" shoot.

She needed something else so I added a clutch and fur.
