A close-up done with the 7Artisans manual lens at F1.2. The photographic discussion sometimes refers to "dream lenses", often super-fast vintage lenses that produce soft and rich images. I found that this little Chinese lens does similar things when used wide-open, in particular when backlit. If sharp focus is not your primary aim, then this tiny and inexpensive piece of glass would be an option.
A colorful bird that is common throughout the country and is the state bird for many South Indian States. These are found all the way to the Middle East and are easily identified by their unique colors. The are about 30-35 cms tall and often sighted perched on power lines, fence posts and sometimes on grass bales in the countryside.
The birds hunt insects like beetles, grasshoppers and dragonflies. Sometimes they are seen on the ground in the grass picking up insects. They are not social birds and sightings are of solitary birds or at best two of them. During our last weekend trip to a grassland, sighted one of them foraging in the grassland. It flew to various trees sometimes coming to the ground and catching insects.

The gatehouse is all that remains of Alnwick Abbey, which dates back to the 12th century.
Without doing any digging, my feeling is that this must be a re-construction since it is so intact and without a trace of the rest of the buildings (which were on the far side of the gatehouse).
It's located in a section of Hulne Park without public access and so has to be photographed from a public road (& over a 5ft high wall!).

Yikes! ...and I hadn't even tasted anything alcoholic! Taking a walk a couple of blocks from home, my eyes popped on spotting this architectural adventure. Vancouver architects seem to have a penchant for bent buildings! This one reminds me of the 53-story "Vancouver House" near the Granville Street bridge, designed by Danish architect Bjarke Bundgaard Ingels - maybe that's because this one's designed by the same architect!
That`s my first try to make photo like this one. I know, it hasn`t such a gret qualitty but however I like it. Different than all others. :)

I noticed that over the past weeks, there have been fewer and fewer birds in the backyard, just a handful of Great and Blue Tits and sometimes House Sparrows and ... that's all :-( However, the feeders are full of what is usually appreciated.

That was the saying I often heard as a kid growing up in Lancaster County. It is in regard to how high the corn should have grown by this date.
The fountains are turned on at awkward times, like when you least expect it. It's great to walk around watching the bigger fountains except when the smaller one's turn on before your ready.
