The town of Thames is at the base of the Coromandel pennisula and is said to be the gateway of the coromandel. At it's peak it was bigger than Auckland due to the gold mining these days the population is on the decline but they still have one of the best examples of colonial pioneer buildings in NZ

Despite almost all of the rich industrial history of the Thames at Brentford and at Isleworth being gone with little trace, there are still some boatyards and related businesses operating. This crane stands in isolation between newish buildings, flats and a public house, but shows there is still business going on.
